I agree with you. I liked the originals better, but I understand the change because of how close they are to Atlantean Syndra's orbs. Personally, I think if they added some scales or something to the bottom slowly going up the side and fading into that mystical blue glowing egg it would be enough distinction, but I'm sure they are past the model design phase so I'm sure that isn't an option.
