Peridition1 votesI don't think he's being shot at all. The light is emanating from inside his helmet. Causing the blossoms to emerge and the shadows to recede.
I think the image is a hint that Zed is transforming. Perhaps being both the balance of light and shadows.

A scattering of sakura petals (the type of tree branch pictured here) is a kind of symbolism often used in Japanese media to imply a spray of blood without explicitly showing the violence. Could therefore just be because of the champion's relation to Ionia which derives many elements from our eastern cultures.
Still, though it might be difficult to read something like actual flowers sprouting from a champion, would be cool if it's literally the case with this champion.
