I heard that riot got rid of the institute of war lore, where the League is a ground for the city states to settle disputes....whats the new lore for it then?

The new lore is more dynamic. Each story simply plays out and goes wherever they feel like taking it. The league is no longer a dictating force in this universe.

The lore that have been redone with this new direction in mind are Graves, Gangplank, Twisted Fate, Miss Fortune, Mordekaiser, Kalista, Karthus, Thresh, Hecarim, Kindred, Fiora, Poppy, Illaoi, Shen, Jhin, Taric, Diana, Pantheon, Leona and Aurelion Sol.

Everything in those lores can officially be called canon and everything out of these lores can't be guaranteed to be canon anymore, though it can be safe to assume that most things about the un-updated champions will persist (Ashe being married to Trynd, ect).

The new lore for the rift is a Super Smash Bros-esc arena thingy. It doesn't actually happen, but at the same time it does.
