When was the last time a bit of lore flooded the forums with so much QQ? Not when Ahri was turned into a vastaya. Not when Fiddlesticks was turned from an inter-dimensional scarecrow to a pariah who died of starvation. Brand. Rammus. Fizz. Gangplank. Any of the Targonians. The entirety of the Shadow Isles. Barely a peep. Maybe a thread or two. Nooooo; It's all about the marksman with a previous lore of a single paragraph...who's now with a dude. And suddenly everyone is so unbelievably attached to some unnamed wife and child from his old lore 90% of you didn't even know existed.

He's still an Ionian archer with dark powers driven by vengeance and loss. He is fundamentally the same character. Same motivations. Same powers. Same personality. As far as lore retcons, this is nothing. Stop acting brand new. Remember, every downvote is a confession.

But y'all wanna keep pretending it's not about him being gay...m'kay [slayer-pantheon-thumbs]

Ahri struggles the same way as before, they just went from generic spirit to a race that is indeed a mixed spirit/humanoid one. Fiddlestick has some good potential, wait for the full lore before bashing (as we did for Varus). Same with Brand, Fizz, Kassa. GP was good, Targonians are indeed in a bit of confusion but they are done better and have space to grow.

Varus change was just a poor choice to justify the introduction of the LGBT factor while completely deleting the old character that could still work in the current lore changing only the fact that in the pit there was a Darkin.

You are clearly oblivious to the points being stated in a lot of the critical comments. Also you weren't reading BOTH of the lores carefully if you claim it's the SAME character with the SAME motivations and the SAME personality. Nothing being the same is the issue.

While I haven't read the lore so I can't say whether it is the same as the old one in terms of the character or not I can say that most of the threads about the change that I have read have had very little to do with his sexuality in fact many of them even stated they wouldn't care if he came to be gay/bi without erasing his family.

Instead of just removing them riot could have had them die just as they had in their previous lore, okay maybe not his wife but he could have still lost the kid and people would have been much happier.

For those that are about his sexuality it's usually because it feels like it was just a sad attempt to fit a gay/bit character into the game, it's like they randomly picked a character and said "right were making this one gay/big regardless of what their story is" which in turn makes it seem like the character just switched from being straight to gay and for many that's insulting because it's not a choice.

Also it's not childish of them to point out what they don't like about riots work that's one of the purposes of the board, they're using it exactly as intended.

I dunno. I've seen a lot of hate that can easily be summarized as Poorly Disguising Homophobia 101, but I've also seen a lot of well thought out, substantial explanation that's completely devoid of the sexuality aspect. I waffled a lot after both the PBE leak and the official relaunch, but I'm okay with the lore, and moreover don't think less of anyone who disagrees for valid reasons.

It is what it is.

Now there are two ionian archers with dark powers... but they are not driven by vengance and loss. Now Varus is the source of the dark powers and he is driven by vengance and loss... but he is not the human archer.

He cant have the same personalitty if there are 3 different personalitties living in the same body. The motivation of the old Varus was revenge, now only 1/3 of the character wants revenge, the motivation of the other 2/3 is to separate themselves from the darkin.

Most of the people of this board doesnt care about him being gay or not, the thing is that "Varus" the man that we knew no longer exist, now "Varus" is a Darkin. Riot has made changes like that before, and its always the same, it happened with Trundle, Pantheon, Leona, etc...

Also, you have to consider that Varus was one of the very few characters in the game that had kids (the other one is Kassadin)
