Yeah, we've done that a lot. So much so that as ChampUP goes and explores what we've done in the past we're noticing the same trends. Some of these characters are/will-be up for updates so I'm definitely looking for alternatives. I mean, where it fits it fits.. (HAH! PUN!).. but sometimes the costume doesn't warrant literally being the same skin tight material every time.

I'd be interested in hearing your thoughts or seeing references as to what might be interesting solutions for these characters if we do eve depart from tight-onesies.

What about making a Demacian Champion whose wardrobe was akin to, say, Tsubaki Yayoi or Saber?

The artist for that Tsubaki picture probably just exaggerated a bit. Tsubaki's actually "average" when you compare her to other characters from the Blazblue franchise. XD

To be quite honest, I am not sure what would constitute as appropriate attire for Demacian champions. I believe the bodysuit fits champions like Fiora and Vayne, who are in close proximity to their opponents. Form-fitting works best since it offers decent flexibility and denies any trailing garments that could be grabbed (Fiora's cape and Vayne's cloak work against this, but my point stands).

Sadly, my insight is limited with regards to designs that depart from the leather leotards so many Demacian champions sport. I really have no frame of reference for what Demacia "is" besides blue, gold, white and lots of armor.

Yeah I agree that "skin-tight" isn't as much of a problem as "body-suits". You can have some really classy skin-tight stuff especially in high fashion, which I think strikes me as a fun place for Demacian casual-wear to be. I think that it's definitely a place to bring sort of a very East Coast runway sorta vibe. That with treating it with the right motifs can give it a cool fantasy read with a slight modern spin.

My sentiments exactly. Demacia, I feel, represents high-class, or Valoran's nearest equivalent. Whether their image is gilded or not, they bear it with pride.

And thank you; the name was quite a hefty expense to change. Much IP was lost that day, but I emerged more superbly evil than ever. Also, Viktor is among my favorite champions, both in concept and execution. I am glad you enjoyed reading my aimless ramblings.

The only ones I feel that trend doesn't fit are Jarvan and Lux; the rest are all characters focused on mobility and agility, so I can buy them wearing an outfit that doesn't block movement and has little chance of snagging on branches or whatever.

Jarvan is a front line fighter, so I feel it would be better to have more armor on him.

Lux is a mage; I don't have a problem with her current outfit, but it doesn't make as much sense on her as some other champions, and other outfits would make equally as much sense.

For Lux, a shirt and pants matching the cloth already on her outfit seems Fine,

For Fiora, Maybe just replace the over tight spots with something like a dark grey cloth that's form fitting but actually has some thickness to it,

And for Vayne, Somekind of woven in silver chain mail with only partially visible links,

It's not really noticeable to me on Jarven Quinn or Lucien,

Actually, I think Fiora/Vayne having skin tight suits is fine for how they are. I guess you could change some skin tight suits, but honestly it actually fits (HA! ANOTHER PUN!) some of them. As for Jarvan, that is just armor....and if you read what Jelly Mac said, I actually kind of agree on his points.

Agreed. Agility = form-fitting. However it doesn't necessarily mean a vinyl body suit. I think that's the issue. Cool, they gotta be fast, form fitting is great, but even Trinity and Byonetta have some style in how they do that.

I've always seen the skin tights as under armor of sort, light weight, form fitting, and protective. I personally don't see straying from this being very beneficial. Its kind of like the Spartans from Halo with their under armor, and really the only other option I see would be chain mail, but this could only really apply to only the larger fighters, like J4.

TLDR: Stick with the body suits. They make more sense thematically than other options, and are more elegant than these options as well.

I don't mind the outfits, but it's the color scheme that I'm worried about. You have this mix of silver, black, and purple/blue tights. Not seeing the cohesion here. It's OK if they were tights, just make it make sense for Demacians to wear them.

I'm a little surprised that Fiora doesn't have any evidence of padding considering how many of her vitals are left unprotected. For a duelist she's really pushing her luck there. At least the others that have little to no armor are ranged attackers. Agility is important for a duelist so give her some light armor or any sort of padding really. Something to keep her insides from becoming her outsides. lol

Unless Demacia has made a very special kind of resistant fabric. I could see that. It would combine practicality with pretty, pretty dress-up.

Lux While a mage wearing a skintight bodysuit doesn't really make sense for a mage, it does make sense for a secret agent.

Quinn Fiora These two I feel like aren't really served well by the skintight suits. Quinn's outfit doesn't really sell the hunter/scout identity that well. Fiora's outfit is just weird, besides the amazing cape. Nothing else in her design says notorious duelist or head of an aristocratic family, if anything she looks more like a spy or assassin :\

I think Jarvan's old splash gave a stronger indication of his uniform being tighter beneath the pieces of armor.

Because offense is also the best defense.

There is a reason why we don't wear full body armour these days if we were to go fighting now, unless ofc you're in one of those units whose sole purpose is to be THE frontline on the map, otherwise today's definition of combat equipment is different to the yesterday's.

Still tho, that's not saying tight jeans is cool either you need to at least have some protective gear but whatever it's just a game design we're talking about here.

Probably because 5/6 of those are very mobile champions and realistically speaking not wearing much armor MAY seem like a bad idea however it provides very good movement which is what these champions consist of.

Just think about it, you're an assassin, you're trying to assassinate someone and know your target, are you going to wear super clunky armor that's noisy or are you going to wear very little clothing that provides quick movement for you to get in, kill the target, and get out.

Same goes for archers and duelists, are you going to wear super clunky armor to barely move? Or are you going to wear little clothing so you can go in, out, and abuse the enemy's mistakes very quickly with fast movement.

Believe me, I understand the practicality of flexible attire. I meant to emphasize this particular design choice is prevalent for Demacian champions. Leona and Diana share this style of wardrobe, but besides those two, there are few.

Fiora is a duelist, she needs to be agile and unconstrained to do her job. JarvanIV 's getup really isn't skintight. Lucian is not affiliated with Demacia. Lux do you really expect a "light" mage to wear armor? Be happy she isnt Syndra Ahri Janna Quinn , being a bird-warrior thingy, has to occasionally take flight, so light armor is necessary. Vayne is Vayne, nothing new.

There's a difference between light armor and skin tight body suits. Also Lux is wearing armor, she has a breast plate, should pads, waist guard, bracers and boots all of which are made of metal.

Yep, another thing that Riot loves is Goggles. Too many goggles! Everywhere! On everyone! The only champs that I can really see using goggles are Heimerdinger, Ezreal and possible Corki. Otherwise, Teemo, Tristana, Vi, Ziggs, Twitch, and I guess you could say Master Yi, don't have any real use for them. It does make people look sophisticated though.

Another thing that Riot loves is broken horns.

Worked in a Chemistry and Bio labs, can confirm. We never use goggles or aprons or any other safety device.

We literally drank staph cultures and flasks of NaOH when we got thirsty, bathed in them too. Totally fine.

Teemo Deals with volatile, poisonous mushrooms that could easily explode in his face. Likely creates large amounts of debris punching through pretty much everything. Twitch Lives in a sewer. Beneath Zaun. Perhaps the most toxic city in Valoran.

Teemo and Twitch don't seem to be making an effort to protect other parts of their body, as Teemo doesn't really wear a shirt, and for Twitch, would it really make him less toxic if he wore goggles? He always has his mouth open and throws rat poison at people, no mouthguard of any sort. Vi is a mechanic so maybe, but still.

Eyes are the most vulnerable organ on the body. Contact with a poisonous mushroom, especially one that can kill when introduced to the bloodstream, is a serious hazard, and where someone comes in contact with one can be the difference between a painful rash and blindness.

Teemo handles his trademark mushrooms directly, which is likely why he wears gloves. In addition, his entire body is covered in fur, an extra defense against toxic spores or fluids.

Twitch may be resistant to most harmful chemicals that choke the sewers of Zaun, but a particularly concentrated substance can still damage him, and if it can hurt him through his thick skin and fur, then it would do far worse to his eyes.

You forgot belts. Every Piltover champ wears more leather on belts than a herd of cattle. Hell, Jinx makes fun of it in one of her walking lines.

Tristana is teeming with explosives and uses rocket jump...Ziggs same with explosives, Yi would get mosquitoes in his eyeballs without them. Twitch found them in the trash, Vi also has a lot of powerful moving parts, Teemo has no excuse....for anything.

Anyways to me it's just a clothing trend, especially among agile fighters in a certain area of the league world, same as it would be here. Embrace the blue spandex.

Teemo - Toxic mushrooms; the spores would probably cause some damage to his eyes even if they weren't toxic for him to breath. Justified.

Tristana - Explosives and her cannon generate large amounts of heat and rubble. Justified.

Vi - Her punches generate rubble, mechanism could also discharge a lot of heat. Justified.

Ziggs - Again with explosives. Justified.

Twitch - He lives in a Toxic environment but doesn't really seem to be effected by it, which could mean that the goggles do nothing. Possibly unjustified.

Master Yi: They are supposed to grant him some great boon to his perception. Iffy.

Lux isnt really a typical mage though. She is like a soldier. She wouldnt wear robes because that doesn't protect her in the front lines very well. And its been proven that skin tight leather bodysuits offer the best protection for their weight.

Her bodysuit doesn't look like leather to me, and her boobplate (as others have cited) can be more harmful than good when dealing with a thrusting sword or spear. But then again, her chestplate is fashionable, not functional.

Eh, leather/leather like substance. Same difference, its some light durable material that offers light protection.

However yea, boobplates (chestplates with boobs carved into them) would never perform well in real life ESPECIALLY how they displayed it in lux's case. as the sword would be either deflected upwards toward her bare neck (ouch) or down toward the top of her stomach (a much more slow and painful death actually)

I would like to see riot implementing better armor designs in metal armors actually.

The armor end's in the perfect way so that if a sword were to slide up the side of her chest, or shoulder, it wouldn't stab her in the neck.

Kayle does it... somewhat well though i dont know how that chick can stand having those 1000 pound pauldrons, and layers upon layers of armor slowing her down... Maybe thats why they nerfed her attack speed.

Honestly id like to see the end of boob armor/boob plate in general. There is no advantage for having a dent in your armor right above your sternum, even if your a woman. Breast plates are designed to be roomy to avoid having your chest broken from blunt force trauma. Your boobs will fit.

Yeah you could say its a "fashion" thing for Lux but lets be real -- we all know boob armor is for pandering. Riot, could you not be disrespectful to the women playing your game?
