Yordles and their glamour (general wonderings from the new comic)

As I understood it until now, 'glamour' was a magic that hid Yordle's true appearance from baseline humans, while those attuned to magic, or other worldly abilities, can see through it. It's mentioned in certain character lores that they are seen differently or outright ignored by the populace (see Tristana and Kled). It was until now seemingly just an innate magic they have.

So in the new Jinx and Ziggs comic, it is shown that Ziggs and Heimer appear just as short humans to people. This is a result of their glamour. Yet they seem to be able to suddenly control it and Heimer mentions he conjured it as a charm. Meaning not only it is a spell but one Heimer made (the scientist can do charms... he's a true genius). Ziggs mentioned it's his 'weird glamour thingy' and how he might not use it, showing they can have control over it.

This revelation is actually very disappointing in how Yordles exist. I thought (and liked) the idea that their glamour was an innate magic they just have. The Yordles might not even know how it works or if it even exists, as Tristana says "I’m a young slip of a girl!", meaning she doesn't know how she appears to baseline humans because she doesn't see that, she sees herself as herself.

The idea that all these Yordles that have left Bandle City have this charm seems misplaced too, does Veigar have it? Why would he bother? If a small evil Yordle was running around, people would know about it. In Poppy's comic she was basically ignored yet was the only Yordle there, people would surely be shocked at the sight, she has the charm but where/when did she get it? Kled no doubt left Bandle City hundreds of years ago as he was at the formation of Noxus, yet he apparently has the charm making him appear as a cranky old man (fitting).

I'm also keeping in mind, Eduard Santangelo, the explorer who wrote about the Vastaya said at the end of his journal "Those illusive fae creatures of legend, the yordles." meaning they are meant to be near a myth, not just wandering around in plain sight.

TL;DR: Glamour is inconsistent and I'm thinking about it too much.

The way I see it is this:

Yordles do have a natural glamour about them that conceals their appearance to most individuals besides, as you pointed out, those attuned to magic, the spiritual, or are near enough to a Yordle for a sufficient amount of time, such as the bandits in Tristana's story. This works for Kled and Tristana because they are nomadic, in a sense, and are frequently traveling through the wilderness, remote locations where there exist few humans.

Contrast this with Heimerdinger and Zigmund (Freudian, much? ;) ) who are living in the heart of Piltover, a massive city with an equally impressive population. They are constantly interacting with humans, not just at a distance, but in very close proximity for significant periods of time. They need the glamour Heimerdinger devised because out of the hundreds of thousands, perhaps millions, living in Piltover and Zaun, someone is bound to see through their natural disguise. As Heimerdinger notes, and that random fellow in the crowd implies, Yordles are incredibly rare, bordering on legendary thanks to their inherent magical qualities, and as such they are extremely valuable.

Think of it this way; every Yordle has a baseline glamour, Heimerdinger, being the brilliant scientist that he is, simply spruced up its potency for high-population areas.

If an old man or small boy started shouting at you from across the street about he was going to murder you, your family, and anyone in the same block, you probably wouldn't believe him. Veigar hates that no one takes him seriously despite his considerable power and penchant for sadism, and because of his natural glamour, no one ever will.

At least not until it's too late. = )

I agree with Superb Villain, but I also have more to add.

When people see Yordles, their natural glamour shrouds them and makes them appear as something else. However, a Yordle will look different to every person. In poppy's story, "Slayer," I think, a child saw Poppy as "the hero," the seven foot epic Demacian who had been going around killing a bunch of monsters, but the child's father merely saw an unassuming short person. Same with what Rioters have said, that Garen and Lux would see two different things when looking at Poppy, because of their different relationships to magic.

Meanwhile, Donger and Ziggs are interacting with humans on a daily basis as shopkeepers. If two humans were to compare notes and realize that Ziggs and Donger look different for every person, it would instantly expose them as inhuman. So Donger makes a static glamour that doesn't change, no matter who looks at them.

Well... maybe, the magic is an innate magic and some yordles do not even know how it works... BUT Heimerdinger managed to control it in some way and that is why they talk about it as "a spell that he made", not because of the "glamour" itself, but the control of it.

But that is just a theory that i made right now to fix the inconsistency.

The idea that all these Yordles that have left Bandle City have this charm seems misplaced too, does Veigar have it? Why would he bother?

In another random theory, maybe Veigar the reason of why we dont see the real face of Veigar is BECAUSE he is using some kind of "evil" version of the Glamour to hide it.

You know, because hamster cats are not really scary.

And that one guy in the comic said that Noxus used Yordles in Ionia. He was talking about Kled. And that means that Kled was seen as a Yordle some time during the Ionian invasion.

I don't think I like this glamour thing very much.

And how many people can see that Kennen is a Yordle? Surely the Kinkou all know.

I really hope they keep it that way as it's described in the comic, if at all.

I dislike the very idea of glamour, and even more so as an innate magic thingy.

I just dunno where they're taking yordles, as inconsistency seems to be the main ingredient to yordle lore, and I've also noticed a distinct lack of replies to inquires on the subject. I don't know anymore if we're supposed to make whatever we want from what they give us, but as a yordle I find the whole matter somewhat annoying. Don't get me started on the awful Pentakill video.
