I always wondered that especially in the manner that they die (I.E Eviscerated by Darius's ult, Ripped apart by Chogath , frozen to death by Lissandra, Blown to smithereens by Veigar /Jinx /Graves, Poisoned by Singed /Twitch /Cassiopeia , or burned to death by Annie /Brand) Do they rag doll/locked in a stasis where they are still conscious and can still view the battle(I.E grey screen) when they taken a certain amount of damage or do they literally die but still is conscious in a way. This question just popped up in my mind during a match...

In the new lore, to my understanding, the matches that we play aren't actually part of the story.

The games we play are not in cannon with the story anymore. It's kind of a wasted opportunity for good lore.

To summarize, story wise our games don't matter anymore, they happen in an alternate universe of Runeterra that never existed.

The new lore is stupid, since it is separated from gameplay.

Sorry, this would've been something to be asked in like 2011, when they would actually freely talk about in-game nuances in the lore. As for now, nothing happens, as the events in the game don't actually happen in the story.

I don't remember the post, but I believe Babagahnoosh said that summoner and champion would be incapacitated (and less than conscious) by the death until their mind recovered. The death timer would increase over a match because mental integration from the summoning process would deepen over time (also explaining leveling up from 1 each match). Death broke much of that link, requiring more time to recover.

well in the old lore the nexus was what kept them alive. I dont think that they can actually view the battle, since what we see is supposed to be the summoners point of view. My guess is that their consciousness is suspended and the time between death and revival seems instant to them. Of course with the new lore, they dont actually die, they just somehow get back to the base or something.

If I'm understanding it right, the Champions on the Rift are copies of individuals who exist in Runeterra, and what you summon at the beginning of the match is a fresh copy (which is why they start at level 1). Your copy of, say, Ezreal is made from a snapshot of his life, so you get a fraction of his personality, his appearance, his voice, and a playable version of his skills. But it's not the actual Ez, just a playing piece. The blood and sounds of pain when he dies is just to make the game feel more real. When a champ is dead, your playing piece is deactivated. But to ask whether it feels pain or what it knows while deactivated makes no sense. It's like asking if your computer is bored when you're not using it.

It was theorized that the champion's soul (or at least half of it) is stored away in some central Nexii deep within the Institute. That way, if a champion died in a Field of Justice, they could just use the Nexus' power to heal their bodies back to normal.

I, personally, also assumed that the Nexii of both teams absorbs the champions' power, ence why they start at level 1. This explains why, as levels grow, the death timer grows as well. The Nexii slowly give back the power they took, and as such have less power themselves, so they take longer to bring the champions back to life.

But objectively, the pre-rework explanation was that the champion died and was brought back to life. The "grey screen" is merely the Summoner watching over the battlefield.
