We really do need a VU team.

For a few reasons, this is actually pretty problematic:

VGUs are not only done to maximize resources, but actually for more cohesive results/Champion Updates, too.

For example, a team/Pod was formed for updating Shen, but not fully updating him. They saved on art Art and Narrative resources, I believe- As you can see, Shen didn't receive a full animation overhaul, his lore was worked on outside of the Pod (it wasn't done along with the new kit and visuals), if I remember correctly, and this also kind of resulted in no new Voiceover (Although that was a much more 'conscious' choice).

What they ended up with is a champion whose lore was pretty much disconnected, in terms of development, from his new visuals and gameplay (and obviously old Voiceover).

If Shen was given maximum resources and the Narrative guys worked side-by-side with Artists and Designers, the results would've probably been more cohesive, and it would have been reflected in their kit and/or lore, at the very least.

Another reason is that, from Riot's past experience, it's been much harder by players to appreciate only VUs, because it's usually not as apparent as a full VGU, which changes the kit and voiceover as well.

So at the end of the day, giving champs only VUs could result in a waste of resources, because if the Update ended up being not very cohesive, they'd have to go and update that champion again, by modern standards.

It would be like giving a champion like Galio a new skin right now, and with his upcoming VGU, he'll almost certainly look so different that they'd have to redo the skin, so it'll fit the updated silhouette, rig, features, kit and possibly theme of Galio.

Think I'm in the boat of "Yeah let's get the VGUs first as there's a more dire need for 'em", though a pure VU team would be nice. Maybe one day.

On that note I wonder what the Class Rework team will shift focus towards when they're done with classes, considering there's far less of those than individual champions needing a VGU. Maybe just to other VGUs?
