Kai'Sa and Aphelios having literal guns is really stupid now that I think about it.

I understand that trying to stretch ideas within a historically constricted universe is hard, especially when having to keep characters very unique.

But trying to force this sci-fi crap is actually making me worried. They're forcing characters and ideas into the world that feel jarring.

A pistol, sniper rifle, flamethrower, cannon wielding marksmen isn't an idea that emerged from the lore, it was an idea that was shoved into it.

Almost the same thing with Senna but she's passable.

But it's Riot's story so whatever I guess shrug.

Just saying it feels really gimmicky

Kaisas weapons dont even resemble any real guns. They're floating ... things.

Where do you see Kai'Sa wielding guns? She shoots energy out of her hands.

Kai'Sa I can see how discussable that is, her guns should've looked more... voidish.

As for Aphelios the concept of him having Chakrams and Scythe Pistol that shoots waves in long range was a great idea, but a Sniper Rifle, a Flamethrower and a Gravity Gun, GRAVITY GUN?!

The gravity gun makes the most sense cause it should represent moon's gravity the way Diana's new ultimate does, but the gun designs of those 3 are too cringey.

Not to mention sound effects for Infernum the flamethrower sound too similar to Transformers Fall of Cybertron cyber-like gun effects. Heck Infernum doesn't even look infernal enough, even if it's supposed to present blue flames it simply looks too...digital.

Also why on earth does Aphelios all of a sudden have a sentry turret as his Crescendum the chakram's Q ability?!

Forcing characters and ideas is something they are doing for quite some time now.

i always thought kaisa focuses the void energy around her hands to form... a sort of crystal that fires a projectile. i guess you could call it a gun? IF my thoughts are correct lol.

Yeah, makes it pretty sad that they scrapped the idea for the Piltovan bounty hunter for Aphelios. A Piltovan would have access to alot of technology, including different types of guns. It would have made sense.

But Riot being Riot... whenever they come up with an idea for a Piltovan or Zaunite, they go "nah, let's rework them into something else and magical"....

Yes, but guns look like guns because that is the best way (as far as I and most other humans know) to form a hand held projectile shooting weapon. So similar to saber teeth on predators anything that functions similar to a gun will likely come to look like a gun because it comfortably fits in a human hand.

Gameplay wise it's also just so that people can immediately visually identify what a champion does.

Aphelios's weapons originally being relics before weapons is kinda weird though, but maybe he isn't the first person to wield them.

Science Fantasy, not Science Fiction.

Perhaps even just fantasy, especially in the case of Aphelios. He's getting magical moon stone artifacts that shoot moon energy? Def not sci-fi. Kai'sa going into an alternate dimension and having a symbiotic that shoots for her? Calling that sci-fi is possible but a stretch.

As for your point of believability, I'd say this game is far past that point. Characters are becoming more and more outlandish as Riot looks for new ways to come up with something different (and also appeal to the asian markets... anyone noticing the anime influence grow more and more). The days of bow and arrow are long gone.

I do agree though with this to an extent. I commented before how I absolutely hate the design of aphelios' red gun (the sickle blade that heals). He holds it like a blade, swings it at melee range, and it shoots out a pokemon looking air slash attack. It looks dumb to me.
