God King Darius Splash is underwhelming

  1. He's showing his back to us so it isn't anywhere as interesting as it could be.
  2. The wolf does not stand out as much as Garen's lion.
  3. Overall, it feels bland and boring. The only touch of color is Darius's axe which is way off to the side. Hopefully some improvements can be made before it is shipped to live.

Edit: If possible the way I would change the splash is to have Darius facing the viewer pointing his axe at Garen as if declaring war.

I find this post funny, because when I first saw it I thought the complete opposite. The picture is epic and if they ever did a superhero champion who fights with his fists, I’d wish he would get this picture. The open hand is badass.

  1. To be fair, Championship Zed also has his back turned to the viewer in the splash art and it looks awesome as hell. I do see how it's frustrating though, especially since it's not like he's carrying something notable or cool on his back like Championship Zed does.

  2. I agree there, but I think it's mostly because the overall color scheme isn't as vibrant or brilliant in comparison to Garen's skin.

  3. Personally, I think it's an amazing piece on its own. However, in comparison to basically every other splash art out there, I can see why it feels bland and boring. The color palette is nowhere near as vibrant and luminous as what we're used to seeing in Riot art.

My two cents is that they add a little more contrast to the shine and highlight of Darius' armor and add a red glow to his one visible eye to match the blue glow in Garen's eyes. Maybe even add that glow to the two red gems I see in his armor.

Your criticisms are valid imo, I still enjoy the splash though.

Someone states Champ Zed has his back turned, but he's also the centerpiece of that splash without much on either side of him, as well as the colors being more intense with the bright whites and dark blacks and blues. Where as with Darius it's mostly light greys and even light blacks.

It is odd too because Darius is brutal. He's a brutal war machine who is straight up in the middle of the fights. With this he looks more like a commander who would stand in the back lines. I would think there would be more action to his pose other than the glow of his axe.
