So Leona was guided by sunlight up the mountain, Diana was met with moonlight, but when Pantheon began his climb there was an eclipse.

Is anyone else suspicious of this?

It could mean that Pantheon is further proof that the sun and moon are allies. But I did forget about the eclipse.

It is all very interesting. It could be viewed as a union, since the sun and moon come together, but it also serves as a negation of both their attributes since the sun's light is blocked by the moon and the moon cannot reflect said light because it is in the way.

Maybe it marks his aspect as indifferent to their conflict, or carrying on in their shadow.

**Diana: The Disney Heroine Leona: The Unexpected Inquisition Pantheon: The Snitch ** (I kid, i kid...)

Serious thoughts:

I like **Diana's **lore quite a bit. Really gets into her character more than we've ever gotten, and her plight is understandable.

**Leona's **is a bit more of a mixed bag. I'm a afraid that the writers might be falling into the temptation of making the Lawful Good into the (functional) villain, bc it's so "original". It seems like there's some ambiguity at the end, so i'll wait and see what they do with it.

**Pantheon's **was pretty hardcore, and i liked it quite a bit. Until the end reveals that Atreus, the character we got to know and love over thousands of words, is actually dead, instead of "partnering" with a celestial essence like Diana and Leona were. So, thanks for that i guess? Seems like a weird choice to me.

Liked the new lore overall; at least we're getting SOMETHING, amirite? [slayer-pantheon-thumbs]

If you pay close attention to what is going on between the lines, I think by the end of Leona's lore, she knows some of the same things Diana does. Finding her now is probably less about punishing her and more about what the heck happened up there on the mountain. Their visions up on the summit (the city they saw) were identical, both lead there by a strange creature/person. I believe they are two sides of the same coin, and Leona knows it. Diana doesn't know though, last she saw Leona she was in a mess after Diana attacked the elders.

And it was not stated by the narrator that he's dead, but by his family. That's what they think.

Atreus’s family mourned their son and held a funeral for him. While they had suspected he was dead after he had not returned from the expedition, now his demise was confirmed. The Pantheon Aspect had obliterated his personality, memories and emotions. Atreus’s flesh was nothing but a shell inhabited by the supernatural Aspect of War; his mortal soul had joined those of the ancestors in the celestial afterlife.

Of course Pantheon plays the main tune, he is the aspect of war, continuously reborn, and very necessary atm if the comet is any indication, but Atreus could hang on as a background noise, as boring as it might've been. Maybe provide Pantheon information, much like the aspects of sun and moon.

Pantheon as Glen Baskerville though... That's a cool thing to wrap one's head around.

Atreus could be hidden; it just seems weird that he would be, while Leona and Diana aren't. Good point though; it would just be a shame if Atreus were really "dead"

Leona and Diana are the chosen apostles of their respective 'aspects', they are the avatars of Sun and Moon. They are the ones who need to make history and were foretold to.

Meanwhile, the important part in Pantheon, the one who does the history, is Pantheon himself. He chooses a vessel and the vessel grants him incarnation. The vessel itself is not important, or so we can gather from the story.

However, the fragment where Atreus sees the city, and the guiding figure waits for him, hands outstretched to take him with him - or that the news of his death are subjective, gives me hope that he was not actually just discarded in the process.

I like that guy too much just to let him go, damn it :(

I think I better understand why Atreus was chosen as the vessel and not Pylas. Atreus was known for his incredible endurance, making him the better vessel for the celestial.

I really do hope he is still there in some way.

MY god I am stoked. The burden of Pantheon is a great one, but I imagine Atreus would have taken it if he did fully know. I'm loving this new lore Riot and I can't wait to read the color text!

Really like them, especially the new Pantheon lore.

Also, please remember to keep your characters vulnerable when writing. Pantheon, being the avatar of an aspect of war, makes sense as a nigh invulnerable paragon. However, in the harrowing story, reading about Miss Fortune, Lucian and Olaf miraculously dodging every bullet and sword swung at them while killing three ghosts with one bullet felt silly and forced.

I feel like Diana new lore is mostly unchanged, just fleshed out in a good way, so nice job on that.

I never had any special attachment to Pantheon, so no strong feelings on that one, one way or the other. Maybe a bit disappointed by this whole "his old soul is dead" business, but I can see it becoming a good hook for a further plot-line. And well, he's an A-hole for denouncing Leona, but ok, why not. As I said, no strong feelings.

But on Leona, I have mixed feelings. On one hand, the new write-ups are much more detailed, fleshed-out than before, probably a bit less clichéd too, and that's great. On the other hand, Leona was the compassionate and fierce warrior that arose to fight the zealous tenets of her own Rakkor tribe. Now, the Rakkor are better, but she is the zealot herself among the Solari (at least in the beginning), and I find the story of the "golden boy" less striking than her old Judgment piece: in the old piece, she had to actively go against customs and stand out for what she believed was right. In the new one, she was trained to fight warriors and monsters, so when she sees a young scared boy, as a decent human being she helps him. Much less heroic, if you ask me.

So... good job on the write-ups, they are great, but not sure I really like the new direction taken with Leona's lore.

I'm rather disappointed with the new Leona lore. In the old lore, she was selfless and compassionate - the flaws in her character were more aligned with being too compassionate and perhaps lacking the will to kill. Now, that's all gone. There's nothing that makes her stand out.

I know that (one of) the stated goal(s) of the lore rewrites is to keep what's core to the character, and that that's not always easy because people disagree on what that is. But I'm honestly confused as to what parts of her character were (intended to be) kept. Her old lore was almost entirely centred around protecting the weak, and that doesn't appear at all. The incident with the golden boy reads more as enchantment than mercy. Even if it's mercy, it doesn't give any sense that mercy is part of her character. If you read it as mercy, it's more of 'that one time Leona failed in her duty'.

The second part of her lore doesn't add that either. She's not really protecting people at cost to herself, but merely because they are more or less under her authority.

On the other hand, I like the Diana and Pantheon lore - it definitely makes Diana in particular a much deeper character, and it gives a much better view of Mount Targon overall.

EDIT: Oh, and the splash pictures are weirdly stretched.

In his old lore, Taric was from another realm outside of Runeterra. I doubt Riot will shove him into the Mt. Targon story.

I'm fairly certain they will. At the very least, they're removing most of the 'other realm' champions, like Nasus and Anivia, and putting them into thematic Runeterra locations.

It might not be Mt. Targon, but I severely doubt they're gonna have Nasus and co. be from Runeterra, and let Taric, a relatively normal human, stay an outsider.

And Neither Nasus nor Anivia are 'other realm' champions. They're both remnants from the ancient older world of Runeterra.

EDIT: My mistake, I forgot Anivia and Nasus' lores were reimagined during the Freljord and Shurima events.

The entire point of Void champs is that they're from another place from Runeterra. They would make no sense if they were to be from Runeterra, their entire gimmick is 'encroaching other reality.'

And yes, both Anivia and Nasus used to be from other worlds entirely. They didn't become a part of Runeterra until the Freljord and Shurima events, respectively.

Hmm...3 paragraphs to say 'Climbing Mt. Targon is hard.' I know it says more that that, but lordy there was a lot of redundant writing in that description.

That seems to be a theory going around. I think it makes sense and showcases why the Void hasn't conquered everything yet. They literally have a welcoming party stopping them.

While it does make sense, some of the descriptions given in Leona's lore does not quite match what we have come to expect of The Void. Some creatures appear celestial in nature, described as radiant, made of starlight and fire.

Not to mention that some of the places revealed at Targon's summit are of distinctly humanoid construction, such as gleaming cities.

An interesting point that I liked, not really related to this point, is that their skin became purple because it was exposed to the atmosphere of Runeterra. This actually makes sense from a biological stand point as them having an adverse reaction to a new world, but I also like the detail about them being pale and white; the Void is lightless, and so the creatures there need no colour on their bodies.

It is terribly interesting, because as the transformation occurs, it suggests the creatures are in pain, but once the shift is complete they don't seem irritated in the slightest. Could it be they adapt to Runeterra, like a callus that forms to strengthen the skin?

Potentially. It depends on how the Void and Runeterra interact. Runeterra and other planes of existence seem to work via portals and the blending of realities, where as for the Void it's like they aren't in sync, and the process for transitioning over is flawed. Perhaps these were planes that didn't intersect at one point, but were made to by interference (Icathia anyone? Or maybe something older?), and so the bleeding over is literally just because the realities aren't meant to have met and the reaction hurts both sides.

Makes me wonder what the Void side of things is like and how that affects that plane.

Yes, yes, and YESSSSSSSS. I love the Mt Targon lore so much, and seeing it even further fleshed out makes me so happy. Can't wait to see the other 2 champs. Also, I wonder about this "Golden-skinned boy", how relevant is he beyond being a guide for Leona? Is he one of the 2 missing champs? If so, who the heck is he?
