Maybe the hero she's looking for is herself?
Think about it, Poppy has been to numerous villages looking for a great hero, but she hasn't found him/her at all. In the comic she was the one to defeat the giant monster, so maybe she is the hero??

Her lore states that she is.

come on man, it was pretty obvious. even the comic spits it in your face that she is infact the hero herself albeit indirect spits.
