Wukong's Title: Monkey King

Firstly, just want to say, I absolutely LOVE all of the new Vastaya lore. My personal favorite is 's (seriously, that is the most brutal thing I've ever read of), but I actually think that 's is an extremely good read and I highly recommend it to anyone investing themselves in the League lore, even if it's only my second favorite :^) .

Now, I wanna note that I was actually predicting Wukong's new lore to go something along the line of; Wukong is a king of his tribe, but gets kinda lazy/his trickery becomes too much for his people and he sets off to the human world seeking redemption, eventually finding it with Master Yi. Now, this is obviously not at ALL what went on in Wukong's lore, but I still like it nonetheless. I was kinda thinking they'd go the route I was predictating, or atleast something similar, as to preserve his title as Monkey KING, but there doesn't seem to be any mention whatsoever of Wukong being any form of royalty to the Shimon. Is it possible that Wukong is getting a different title to better fit his lore? The Wuju Disciple? As mentioned in his lore, Wukong is the last person in Ionia and possibly the world to learn the art of Wuju, a seemingly dead art of fighting that only Master Yi and Wukong now know of. Along with that, the new bundles to celebrate the release of these new lore-pieces go along with their titles "The Nine Tailed Fox Bundle, the Tidecaller Bundle etc." However, Wukong's is "The Wuju Disciple Bundle."

"The Wuju Disciple" was actually the new title proposed for Wukong. There was a push to get that changed since Monkey King makes no sense as a title other than as a Journey to the West call back, but I don't know how that went. I'll ask around and find out; if there's anything I can discuss I'll be right back here.

So basically the decision was made that a title change would be better suited for when Wukong goes through champ-up, whenever that may be, as opposed to just with his lore update. That's the score on his title atm.

I'm actually disappointed they consciously chose to divorce his lore from his Chinese legend origins. You could easily tell that they threw in a hamfisted line about turning to stone after death just so they didn't have to redo his death animation despite retconning his origins as being born from a runestone. He's practically only Wukong in name now, and described as an ordinary member of his village that has "chosen one" traits, and the way they described his abilities actually has repercussions for how his in-game abilities look.

I mean, you can't expect me to believe the current in-game decoy is supposed to be a straw dummy that magically moves and spins around before disappearing. Furthermore because they removed his cosmic origins and have been extremely vague on how vastayan magic works, I can't see how his cloud riding (he flings two strawmen at his enemies?) actually exists canonically.

Really sad about this, considering he is uniquely the only character that has distinct real world legends and folktales about him and that other MOBAs like smite and dota 2 have no qualms about paying homage to these, whereas the narrative team seems to want to actively distance themselves from it.

I'm guessing they are testing the waters with that title, see how people react. If the reaction to the the title are good, they may go ahead and change it.
