@Riot: Why aren't you using the NA Crimson Akali?

First off, while I approve of unifying the splash arts across all regions I also believe that NA has some of the better splash arts. Some are more contested than others (for example, I like the NA Masquerade Evelynn better than the proposed one).

That being said, let's focus on Crimson Akali.

Here is what you want to use:

Here is what we currently have in NA:

Let's talk about what we currently have is superior to what you want to replace it with.

  • In the NA version, her eyes are well defined and expressive. In the replacement... there is something off about their shape; particularly her eye lids; It looks like someone punched her in the right eye.
  • The NA version closely mirrors her in game model; the replacement does not (Missing armbands, the border to her clothing is black in game, not gold).
  • The NA version displays that she dual-wields. The replacement does not.
  • The NA version has a certain tranquility to the background, highlighting the action of the motion Akali. The replacement has a scene from possibly hell in the background.
  • The NA version is rated PG; the new version shows a bleeding, decapitated head (R rating).
  • The new version makes Akali look out to be some blood crazed sociopath holding her bleeding trophy. That is not who or what Akali is in her lore or what her new lore is looking to become based on the brief mention in Shen's updated lore.
  • There is something wrong with Alkali's left leg in the replacement version; it's like her left shin/calf is half the width of her right. Before you talk about perspective, realize that her legs are crossing at the shins. Similar, her right thigh is disproportionately larger than her left, and since her right hip is actually further from the camera, this is doubly wrong.
  • The level of detail in the NA splash for Akali herself (which is the focus of the splash) is superior than the replacement.

Seriously, the only thing I noticed that the new splash art has over the current NA version is Akali actually has nipples, which is an oddity for females in league of legends as I believe something Riot has traditionally kept out of splash arts. I also don't see any value in adding something like that, so I'm not necessarily sure this is an improvement.

I think the chinese splash looks more like it would be a Blood Moon skin

It's funny, because the chinese one looks like it has had much more time spent on it, yet by some miracle ours still looks superior, as ours actually represents what it should. If I were shown that splash art on my first day of league, and someone told me to choose whether or not that skin should be entitled blood moon or crimson akali, I would choose blood moon without a doubt. It literally has blood in it, and it looks sort of dark and mysterious, which is what I envision being associated with the moon. If we added the chinese splash art for her crimson skin, new players I believe would be incredibly confused as to why their are two blood moon skins and only one of them isn't legacy.

The current crimson akali splash is fine, I hope they don't change it. Yes, the chinese one is drawn "better", but it creates confusion and doesn't convey what it should.

I think what they want to do with Masquerate Evelynn is even worse. We know she's a very sexualized character, but her NA splash is awesome and makes her look mystic or something. Her "new" chinese splash art may as well be the front page of lolhentai.

I agree some Chinese Splasharts are better in some ways, but they aren't all superior. This is a perfect example of that, the eyes are so distant if feels like she's a part of the background.

I don't know what's up with the head in the new one but that is undoubtedly better art. We also have way too many splashes with the same attacking/slashing kind of poses.

I much prefer NA's Crimson Akali. She looks really anime, and her chest is nice to look at. Meanwhile, Chinese Crimson Akali is too dark. Literally dark; can't see a thing. It is still a good splash art, but NA is just better. Let me put it this way: Chinese Crimson Akali would make a great wallpaper, but not a good loading screen card. NA Crimson Akali's loading screen card is far better, but inversely, it wouldn't make as good of a wallpaper. When it comes to lighting, Chinese Crimson Akali wins out, and thus makes a better wallpaper, but NA Crimson Akali has an attractive anime aesthetic and is far more visible to the viewer.

Also, NA Crimson Akali DOES have nipples. You just gotta look close. Look at the edges. You can see it very easily on her right breast.

The NA splash is actually just a previous Chinese splash.

I actually think this Chinese splash is better though as it's closer to being League's true style, although I thought it was Blood Moon. The current Crimson Splash looks like anime fan art - although I guess it won't stick out as much with all the other anime-style Chinese artwork being added.

The only real issue that I have with the current skin is that your eyes are drawn to the background, rather than Akali herself, while the Chinese one draws your eyes to Akali herself. The Chinese definitely has far better technique, even if it doesn't quite represent Akali herself, nor does it properly represent the Akali skin.

Also I like to add that there is a figure that looks like Blood Moon Shen in the background of the Chinese Crimson Akali, adding further confusion to what this skin is suppose to represent.

See, I saw that chinese splash art in the list and assumed it was replacing one of the truly terrible splashes if it looks that bad.

But it's not, Rito seems to have just flipped a coin rather than actually evaluating objective quality or asking for subjective opinions.

While I think the chinese one does look more atmospheric(as in she is a dark ninja fighting demonic monsters in that one),I agree that the old one looks more detailed and depicts her better than the new one.

Honestly I wouldn't say it is so off. Akali was always described as the most unforgiving and extreme of the kinkou trio and her guest appearance in jhins color text does sound like she is the kind of person who does want to prove themselves. Though I'd say the new one does go a bit too far.

Holy crap the new one actually does have nipples. If you just look at her breasts just a little you actually notice them pretty easily :/

And considering any video game with a predominantly male audience (i.e. everyone will notice) it will be universally known as the nipples and blood akali skin.

i think they should edit the chinese to make it look like the model (eg add the armbands like u said) but it still looks better than the na and badass.
