Sona Lore Thoughts?

I've seen a couple mentions from other Sona mains about how Ryze showed up in her related champions list, and vice versa.

I also remember seeing someone posting that a rioter replied to a question about a lore update for Sona, and that it wasn't too far off.

Now we're getting a lot of attention to Ryze, and the entire world of Runeterra as a whole.

So, I'd love to read what people think the potential paths that Sona's lore could take.

Is the Etwahl a world rune? Does Sona know? Why did it come with her when she was a baby? If it is a world rune, does Ryze try to take it from her? If it isn't, what was their interaction?

Or there's the Darkin theory (although, I really hope this isn't the case, and pretty sure it isn't considering the aforementioned new connection with Ryze) But if the Etwahl is a Darkin, how did Sona master it from birth? What are Sona's intentions with it?

There are so many questions, and different ways that her lore could go, especially considering how ambiguous her origins are. Like, who is she? What is she? What's up with the Buvelle family, and more importantly Lestara. How did she know what the Etwahl was? How was she able to teach Sona? How was the adaption process for entering nobility. Is Sona accepted as a legitimate member of Demacian nobility/society?

Gaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhh, I'm excited to see some theories :)

To be honest I'm both nervous and excited.

Im nervous because I dont want them to really change her much, I more want them to expand on her. I'm nervous theyll change her into someone I dont like.

Heya. i was one of the fans, who mentioned Ryze and Sona's connection multiple times. and that reply about Sona's update was Scathelock, telling me Sona,Soraka and Talon are nowhere at the bottom of the list for lore updates. so i have large wall of text if you are interested in reading it.

As for the Sona herself... well, me and Daedric Etwahl had multiple discussion about this. always having very close theories. at this point any theory we have about Sona is just floating about in uncertainT (heh huh yeah i'm terrible).

If we base anything on her origin which is Ionia that could explain the strong magic surrounding her. now i've been told multiple times that, Sona is nothing without her instrument and she is just a regular person. i refuse to believe that. even in her judgement it was said that she has a certain "aura" about her when she walks around. the judgments are scrapped, true but there is a reason it was mentioned! if she was a regular person that instrument wouldn't just show up at the door, again and again!

Lestara is a woman from Demacia, if you take a look at the map, traveling from Demacia to Ionia takes months! so how on Flat Runettera she heard about Sona all the way from there? unless something big was going on that involved Lestara and possibly Demacia as well! i had a wild theory about this: Lestara working for the illuminators, same organization Lux is working for, possibly high up in chain of commands. or maybe even it's founder! she is a very likely candidate!

If Sona stays true to her original story, and Demacia stays the way it is, she is gonna have a tough time adjusting. this is a country that doesn't like change and want to stay the way they are, that's an indication that Demacia is a traditional country. i don't think they are beyond giving someone a tough time because they are not from a noble blood, let alone from another land and not of Demacian origin! i mean take a look at Fiora's story, they all went nuts on her family because of a "disrespect". that just made my theory about Lestara and illuminators more likely, how else she is going to protect her daughter against rest of the Demacians ? sooner or later someone is gonna pick up the magic scent!

Sona is in a very sensitive spot. she is one of those characters that any change in her story might have huge chain reactions. i don't know how much Riot worked on it,to keep it close to its original one, before giving up and saying "oh man this is impossible lets change the entire thing"

I feel that, regardless of where they go with her, in the lore, she will always remain as one of the not so important characters. Like Draven, sure she might be famous in her respective region, and maybe some outlying lands, but overall she is of little importance to the overall story. Thta's fine, not every character has to be a part of some big plot or scheme that's going on. Look at most of the Piltover and Zaun champions, aside from Vi, Caitlyn, and Jinx all being apart of their own little story, most of the champions from there are al going on their own separate tangents.

Ryze finds the world runes, retires with Kala, and Sona plays the bridal march. :3

If the cinematic is really just "people who helped Ryze", I'll be a bit disappointed if Sona really is just a musician with a magic instrument. I know the old lore is gone, but the main point of it was how mysterious Sona was--why is she dumb? Why does the Etwahl keep coming back? Where did the two come from, and what is their purpose? Her "voice" in-game makes her sound so above-it-all and ethereal, like a figurative goddess. The fact she can communicate and chooses to hide her voice from most, how does she decide? Can she decide? Who are those she "speaks" to in Demacia, if any?

Her being mysterious has always been a major point of her character, so how they reveal the "mystery" is really important. I honestly would prefer if, as her lore was developed, they still kept a lot of mystery about her somehow rather than making everything explicit, at least for now.

I've posted at-length about this, but I'm always happy to revisit this. I really, really hope they don't forget her Ionian roots. They could change most things about her, but I love how she's one of the only champions who's been "displaced," so to speak. Every champ tends to be in their "area," but I like that Ryze, the world roamer, is close to Sona, someone who plays everywhere as well. On her champion bio, they still have Swain's quote, so she's one of the most "neutral" champions in the game, which I like.

I don't think they're gonna make her etwahl a world rune, but I do hope that we get a hint of its power. I really, really want Sona's power to be more...explained. Literally anything would be good.
