EDIT: I feel dumb for not seeing this: Shurima is on the "southern continent" as detailed on the Shurima page itself. This likely puts the Shurima Desert, Icathia and Urtistan all on this southern continent. What else might be there is up for debate right now, though it might be that what once separated the north and south of Valoran is not the Great Barrier, but instead a sea dividing Valoran and this southern continent.

Overall I really wonder whats on the 3rd continent.

I mean Demacia,Noxus,Targon,the freljord and Shurima all seem to be on the same continent and Bilgewater(which was said to be also close to the serpentine river) and the shadow isles are located on islands.

The voodoo lands would likely be located on the same continent as noxus as well(unless they change them completely)

Zaun,Piltover and Bandle also seem to have some strong connections,so it is likely that those 3 are on the same continent as well and considering that noxus was working with Zaun in the ionia war and that poppy ran into the early demacians when she left her home it is likely that these city states are on valoran as well.

And because of the lores of Gnar,Vel'koz and the fact that shurima has a void problem,I'd say that it is very likely for Icathia,Urtistan and one of the jungles to be still on valoran as well.

Soooo could that mean that they might introduce a whole new nation(or maybe even multiple ones?) to us?

Yeah,thats definetly something to consider.

But what if they are working on a champion and are like "said champion doesn't really fit anywhere,so what if we made a new faction?",in that case they'd introduce a new faction alongside a champion.

Though in the end this is all speculation,it might simply have some already existing factions,what I wrote is,after all,purely speculation.

Likewise the kingdom from Tahm Kenchs tale might have been from a different continent(unless it is a kingdom that doesn't exist anymore),i mean the gamble married a princess,but most nations nowadays don't even have princesses(and I doubt that it was a demacian one,because demacia seems rather strict)

most of the lands of Runeterra are on Valoran, unless league gives us a brand new map that has split many things. The only things so far not of Valoran are Ionia, the islands of Bilgewater and Shadow Islands, the nations under the ocean, the dimension of The Void, and SPAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAACE.

Thats pretty much the reason for this thread. They confirmed that a new map is on its way and that it will have at least 3 continents(One will be valoran,then there is Ionia which was confirmed to be a continent now and the last one is the unknown one).

If that's the case, then the best time to debut it might be with a new champion in the future. Introduce this new version of Runeterra be showing this new 3rd continent and giving us one of it's inhabitants.

Super minor point, but I just wanted to note that the Voodoo Lands are pretty much confirmed to be noncanon now, Jaredan mentioned it on his Ask.FM.

Nothing really happened there anyway, so it's not a huge loss.

He said that a place with a name like this won't exist(because voodoo is an actual religion),which in my opinion sounds more like they just want to rename the voodoo lands,not to erase them. But we probably won't know for sure until annies lore gets updated.

Well, I'm sure they could give us a hastily made up story/explanation within a day, but maybe the other continent has ties to a new champ, or a new direction in a old champ's story. You have to remember that there are ~140 champs they have to make sure the lore does not contradict(that they are not planning on rewriting to make better) in addition to the usual writing and revision processes. And the Narrative and Foundations part of Riot is not a few hundred people working as a hive mind. It is more like 60-80(a wild guess) people all working on new stories for different champs(with different ideas on how the story should go, and riot likes to get things so that everyone in the group is satisfied), and once a story is created it has to be approved and bureaucracied to death as per usual.

Plus there is a thing called "suspense" that is always good to create. How else will they surprise people?

Also things like this annoy me. We have gotten 4 major group lore reworks/expansions(Shadow Isles, Bilgewater, Targon, and now Shurima) and 3 several chapter long stories (Burning Tides, Shadow and Fortune, and The Bird and the Branch),_ in addition to_ a slew of new and reworked champs, all of which have ditched the style of 1-3 paragraph long lore in favor for several pages long lore. Which the writing team is also a part of. So so far I believe that we have gotten plenty of developer content. Sure I want more, but I recognise that it might take time for them to get it to us. And I figure that they write, rewrite, and hold meetings about lore all day.

Allow me to clarify. There isn't a lack of content but a lack of context. Sure all champions have back stories and side adventures but what is Summoners Rift, the League of Legends, and the point of this eternal game? We had a world fully fleshed out and now there seems to be no point or present tense plot line because they deleted everything

i dare say... a continent where Bandle lies in?

So far seems that yordles are travelers, and have a secluded home from the rest of the world ( plus the whole thing where they look fey-like ) and seems more reasonable to me that if the usual runeterran faction had no contacts with Bandle is not ebcause Bandle has a void around it but rather because it' s very far.

I kinda doubt it. Poppys lore says that she went to the human settlements in western valoran,which sounds a lot like the yordles live on the eastern side of valoran.

There is also gnar being a yordle who was frozen in the freljord so it looks like the yordles even originated from valoran.

Blue Flame Island isn't a continent; it's a collection of islands. It's also named the Serpent Isles now.

And the Shadow Isles, again, is an island or island chain.

Could be a massive collection of islands with a main large island. Shadow Isles being the more notable area and Bilgewater on the coast of it as it seems that Bilgewater is always under Shadow Isles Harrowing. Best guess is the Voodoo Lands is what it is as a whole but best known by two major locations.

So even though you know it is wrong, you're still going to use it? That map only shows 1 content ringed with islands of varying sizes. We now know that there is Valoran, Ionia, and a third unknown continent, with the possibility of more. So we can deduct with variance where some locations on the planet may be

We know that the freijord is either the most northern part of the planet or most southern, geographically it's an ice cap

And we know that shurima is at the center of the planet, as that's the part of the sphere that's closest to the sun it orbits

We can deduct that noxus, zaun, piltover, and demacia are all relatively close to one another, zaun and noxus are still alligned and piltover is close enough to zaun for denizens to regularly travel from one to another.

We know that demacia is close to freijord thanks to quinns recon journal entries. And I would assume targon is close to demacia since Taric could make the journey from one to another

I'm gonna assume the shadow isles and serpent islands are in between Valoran and ionia and that the island that bilgewater is on is south of the equator do its bayou esque environment, coasts excluded.

So that's generally how I think runeterra looks geographically with what little we know

My guess is Valoran is: Noxus, Demacia, Zaun, Piltover, Bandle City My guess is second continent is: Ionia, Freljord, Shurima, Icathia, Mount Targon My guess for third continent is: Kumungu, Voodoo Lands, Bilgewater, Shadow Isles, any new groups created

I counted Bilgewater and Shadow Isles in the new continent since islands IRL are counted as being in continents usually, such as Japan and Asia

I doubt that the freljord,shurima,icathia and targon are on the same continent as ionia.

Taric was sent by demacia to climb mount targon,which means that Targon is likely very close to Demacia. Meanwhile there was a really big mountain on the ancient shurima map from rek'sais lore and Aurelion also flew over shurima on his way to targon,meaning that targon and shurima are likely connected as well(and well icathia seems to be close to shurima so it pretty much all ties together)

And it also looks like noxus is rather close to shurima given the fact that they recruited taliyah for a while and that cassiopeia went there on an expedition.
