And then it turns out to be not just the best Victorious skin, but also the best Maokai skin (I don't like soccer).

I hope you remember for the future that many people were outright angry when Vict. Maok. was teased, and yet Riot turned that on its head and did a fantastic job. This is especially important to remember now, what with Elementalist Lux on the horizon. ######You're entitled to your own opinion about this, I'm not here to start an argument.

That doesn't change the fact that Maokai was mostly irrelevant for the vast majority of the season, so the choice still doesn't make sense.

He was dominating competitive play for the first third or half of the season.

He was one of the strongest and most contested top laners when they were deciding which champion who get the Victorious Skin.

They can't just wait until the very end of the season to see who was strongest throughout since they actually need time to develop and test the skin.

I knew someone was gonna say this, so I decided to do a bit of research beforehand. He got a buff which gave him MR per level and ONLY then was he picked, which just happened to be the patch for MSI. Just because he was relevant for a couple patches doesn't mean he was a good pick for Victorious skin. Even if you argue the timing required for Victorious skins, I could bring Gangplank, Reksai, Gragas, Ekko, Graves, and Poppy all of which were more impactful during spring split as a whole, not just a single tournament.

You are leaving out the fact that he was one of the dominant picks throughout the Spring Split.

It wasn't just MSI.

Did you bother to read any of those posts? None of them questioned the ability of the skin department to make a great skin (which is what you're implying). They all questioned "Why Maokai? He hasn't been particularly relevant this year, compared to the dozen or so other champions that earned it."

Personally, I prefer Meowkai.

I used to prefer Totemix Maokai, but I wasn't a fan of its VU.

i don't care how good the skin is. he doesn't deserve it; he hasn't done shit this season and i don't want to deal with this top lane tumor again because everyone got a fancy skin
