I don't know if anyone realizes this, But according to the Wiki, Janna was a SG before Lux and that she's a veteran. Jinx even has some quotes that references Janna "getting way too old for this", hinting at the fact that Janna has been a SG before. Screw Ahri being the new leader, why can't Janna be the leader? Ahri isn't the new leader. Ahri leads a different team seperate from Lux.
Janna used to be a leader, but shit happen, she retire and doesn't want to talk about it. Traumatize by her experience, she decided to make as little of a connection to everyone so she doesn't have to go through that feeling again, and the ultimate reason why she doesn't step up as the leader even though she is the most veteran. She now only act as a mentor to Lux and according to a SG Ahri's quote, it seems like Ahri know about the shit that Janna went through and continuously condemn Janna about her cowardliness to face the reality.
SG Ahri quotes "It's not the big lies that tear us apart Janna, it's the little secret." Maybe Janna used to be Ahri's leader... and the little secret that Janna kept is what tear that group apart, don't quote me on this.
It's my understanding that currently Lux leads the team Lux/Janna/Lulu/Jinx/Poppy and Ahri leads Ahri/Ezreal/Syndra/MF/Soraka. Janna used to be the leader of the other team before Ezreal joined (as he is the most recent addition to that team). Janna left that team to essentially coach Lux on being the leader of the new team.
Whether that was encouraged by Ahri as hinted at in her voice lines, we can only speculate. It would make sense though. Especially if Syndra suggested Ahri take control of that team because Syndra is a little suspicious.
