I've been playing LoL for years and have never bothered to check out the lore, I've read snippets of it in game but other than that, nothing. I know champions lore's have been changed many times so I guess my question is: how do you actually read the lore? Is there a chronological way of reading the lore or do I go through the champions one by one in the client?
You go to Universe, that's where the lore is.
In the Explore League tab it's the second option.
its all organised in the universe section but there are still a lot of things to be added so read what is available there for now,
i don't well not entirely true I did read karthus's but then they changed it and it was lame.
If you have main, eg I main 
so i started there. Typically in a champion's lore, other champions have connections to said champion you are reading on so you could move onto those other related champions. (You don't have to become a lore geek but if you read into the lore of some of your favorite champions, you're already ahead of a majority of the community.)
Or sometime in the week to come there should a lore event on the vastayans Universe home page
Once everyone in Runeterra was living in harmony (since there were Sunborn to fight off the Void). Everything got fcked up when Azir died and Shurima fell. XD
