Soraka's Lore and the inconsistency within part 1/3

Hello Ladies and Gents, I'm horrible with introductions so lets just be quick about this. This thread is about Soraka's lore and the inconsistency behind it. I was origionally going to do this all at once but for the sake of healthy disccusion, theorycrafting, and not to bore people with long walls of text, this is actually gonna be broken down into smaller portions.

Part 2: http://boards.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/c/story-art/IN6KILEN-sorakas-lore-and-the-inconsistency-within-part-23 Part 3: http://boards.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/c/story-art/juqATHHJ-sorakas-lore-and-the-inconsistency-within-part-33 So, without further ado, let's start things off with

http://www.newsoflegends.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/12/Soraka-banner.jpg SORAKA'S CREATION AND THE REASON BEHIND IT {quick disclaimer, I like to call the stars the Cosmos} We know that she was created by the cosmos...and that's it. We have no idea why she was created and, further more, we don't know all that much of the cosmos themselves. There is so little information about them that if Soraka was taken out of the game, there would be no traces of them around, afterword. We don't even know if she was created by the stars but instead was a human who reached a form of enlightenment like her old lore would suggest. Her creation, as it stands, is simply an enigma.

So what is the purpose of creating Soraka? She could've been an accident or possibly a mistake. Would explain why the Cosmos just plopped her on the grove and told her not to leave. Well, why not destroy her? She's a mistake, why not remove it? They may not be able to, I have no idea of the limitations when it comes to the cosmos. But I doubt they would if they could. They seem to have some attachment to or care for her. This is on the basis that they come to her aid when she calls for it, even when she's 'fallen'.

She could be a piece in some war. Possibly with the Void. Let's face it, the Void has pretty much no enemies that can seem to go toe to toe with them and having the cosmos using Runeterra as a battle field is interesting. But like chess, the cosmos doesn't want to reveal their strategy to the void and are keeping Soraka (and who knows what else) in place, waiting for the void to show what they have first. This one seems really off because I have absolutely nothing to back it up with.

Another possibility could be that she was originally intended to go out and explore the world but then the proverbial shit hit the fan and the Cosmos dropped her there while they tried to fix things. There is a possibility of other celestial beings out in Runeterra who might have been hunted down and killed. So to keep Soraka safe, they placed her in the grove and told her not to leave. They may have done the same with others, which is why we haven't even seen another creature like Soraka around.

But Whatever her original purpose is, it may not matter since she is no longer an immortal and out exploring Ionia.

This is all speculations on my part and I'm pretty interested to hear what people have to say about it and also what their own theories are. I will admit, though, this section does not have inconsistency but rather more fill in the blank. But I will say the other parts will have some weird things that will have you say "hey, yeah, why is that?"

Fully agree, Soraka's lore has so much more potential (I see her as one of the most unique champions in the game)

also kind of annoys me how they have 0 friends listed, like, wut? Karma.. Irelia.. I'm sure Karma would be great friends with Soraka and Soraka is the reason Irelia still exists.

Karthus is an enemy for obvious reasons, even though there is no lore statement, but they gave Karthus NO Soraka interactions at all.

Overall I think Soraka could be some kind of manifestation of the stars, you know the sun and the moon seem to be concious to some degree,so what about the stars?Do they have some kind of power within them?

This might not be directly related to the topic, but since Soraka is a being of the stars, what do Leona and Diana think of her? Do they think of her as another goddess? A manifestation of the stars? Do they deny her existence and brand her a heretic?

I feel like the old lore between soraka and ww was a better lore.

Reasons why is in the new lore soraka is tricked by ww, in the old lore soraka was the ultimate healer and i guess similar to what they call ascended now with azir and the whole shurima thing. WW was an extremely malicious inventor/scientist who was the teacher of singed. Soraka sees the horrors WW brought into the world, in an ultimate sacrifice knowing she was giving up all her hard work, she cursed WW to stop his destructive wave, now WW wants revenge and possibly a cure while Soraka is guilt torn between breaking her covenant for something she thought was the greater good, and knowing if she hadnt done anything she would have left ionia in a much worse condition. It was a cool catch-22 scenario that gave soraka much more character then she has now (in lore anyways), while the relationship between the two was much more heated as each hates the other for what they did.

Now the new lore is just a unicorn hunt with WW having a time limit... which will ultimately result in one of the two being killed off, regardless of what they do, since it is WW gets soraka's heart or WW goes mad. In honesty when I read it I thought "man, It sounds like a girl is pissed at her now ex boyfriend and decided to make their relationship a lore story for a champion to ease the emotional stress" because its seriously awful

for those who would be confused at my connection

  1. Boy with a twisted past ( WW is evil)
  2. Finds out about a sweet/innocent girl (WW learns of soraka)
  3. Goes to the girl and tricks her by targeting her heart/ guy lies to girl alot(ww trying to trick soraka with a false story)
  4. Girl is betrayed (proverbially stabbed) by boys actions after she tries to help him (soraka heals ww, then ww stabs her)
  5. Girl curses guy and they both separate, hating each other for eternity (soraka curses WW into a lycanthrope) 6 Girl thinks she is now a strong independent woman who dont need no man [not saying women need a man but its more the attitude that im refering to] (soraka thinks she is a strong independent woman who dont need no one in her life, not even friends, as riot shows us)

I like some of the changes to the lore, but I feel like some such as the WW soraka relationship was much better before hand

I like the Space vs the Void idea... Probably not true, but as you said, I'm not really sure anyone short of the Ascended have the power to oppose the Void right now.

Sounds pretty interesting. A war with the void sounds cool, but aren't they complete pacifists?

I'd align Soraka against Shadow Isles beings before aligning her against the Void beings, in keeping with the history of Ionia's war against the Shadow Isles.

I'd take the Starchild as an ex-member of Kayle's race, whom obviously possess healing powers.

I think the lore before this, and maybe also the new lore, states that because she attacked someone, the stars cut off her godliness.

I was expecting this to be an "amg Soraka shouldn't be able to heal herself by hurting others, why can't she heal herself amg" topic. I was not disappointed. You bring up interesting points; I'd love to see it explored further.

"Accident" does not imply "mistake."

I'm sure there are plenty of living people on this earth who can attest to that.

Because they guessed the correct answer on a math test. Hence, it was an accident that they got it right, but they did not make a mistake.

Anyway, I don't like nitpicking over posts, but seeing as your entire post is hinging on the idea that Soraka has some purpose or given purpose in lore, the above is a counterexample. I don't mind if some characters are just random. So long as there are only a few of them and not all of them or nearly all of them as it was 2 years ago, I think it adds variety. Remember, while interaction and conflict make interesting plots, those plots don't have to be constrained in backstories.
