Where's the Lore?

gregorypoet··3 votes·997 views

I finally reached mastery level 7 with Tahm Kench. I decided to read up more on his lore and found this sad little paragraph. So then I just reached mastery level 4 with LIssandra and decided to read up on HER lore and..... and WOW, that's some well written and cool Lore. Now I know Lissandra has been around for a while and Tahm Kench is relatively new, but the lack of lore for my favorite champ kind of gets me down. I mean, it says that his friend is Aatrox..... How does THAT happen..... and it mentions Tahm Kench by the name "Two Coats" . . . . what's the story behind that? Come on, Riot, Give me some juicy lore, please. :)

Currently that is pretty much Tahm Kenchs lore, though they said that a written lore consisting of a bio and a short story for him is in the works.

Also most newer champions have the full lore on the official page(its best to look at the wiki for lore)

Jesus Christ that boring little sentence truly is all thats there for Tahm Kench, well and the video had the bulk of his lore of course. TK is my most played champ too atm but my God no wonder poor Zen had to resort to asking the forum, on behalf of nobody I would like to apologise man. I can also tell you right now Zen, that the likelihood of TK getting a proper bio any time soon is very unlikely. As far as I can tell (someone correct me if wrong) Jhin and a few Zaun friends are the next lot to get in depth lore, who knows who after that but the point is TK may be left alone for a good while.

Edit: some times it looks like Riot are more interested in developing stories for more popular champs and factions before even getting around to others. :-( I'm not saying TK should be as or more interesting then Jhin in lore. After all TK is just a catfish southerner, what I'm saying is TK should have got more context to his character then what he actually ended up with on release. I mean for Christ sakes it's not like Jhin didn't get a special video made for him where as TK did.

Hey sorry for this second comment by me to this post. But would you Greenlore happen to know why TK has been left in the dust in terms of lore, why maybe it's taking a questionably long time? I mean Jesus even the recent reworked champs got small comic strips made for them. I really don't care myself for Ekko but he's even in a similar situation to Tahm, granted he may guest appare in Jhins trip to Zaun. Anyway sorry if I sound like a passionate fan with passive aggresive comments, trust me that's not my intentions.

Np The thing is the lore team had lots of internal difficulties around the time when they retconned the old lore. They tried to change the lore format, starting with vel'koz they started to do more story-like lore(nowadays called color text) instead of bios.

Then when the Shurima event happened, they tried to put short-lores into the ingame client, while putting the full lores on the official page. However that failed due to technical difficulties, resulting in some champs being stuck with just their short lore. They released some lore pieces here on the boards as a short term solution and tried different things with the following champs, meaning that RekSai Bard Ekko and TahmKench being stuck with only their short lore and some additional "lore piece" on the official site(that are nowadays hard to find, which is why i recommend the wiki),Rek'sai got a journal of someone trying to capture her,Bard got a video and a teaser site,Ekko got a comic and his video and TK got the video from above.

Then around the time of the bilgewater event they solved some of the problems and introduced the current lore format, which basically means that a champion has a short lore in the client and a full bio AND a color text somewhere on the main page. These full lores can be found on the respective champion pages and pretty much from then on every new/reworked champion,as well as those related to the bilgewater and harrowing event got new lores(Gangplank MissFortune TwistedFate Graves Kindred Mordekaiser Kalista Karthus Hecarim Thresh Illaoi Poppy Jhin Shen have full lores on their champion pages).

However their approach changed again during the Mt.Targon lore update(appearantly there were more coding problems with the official site),leading to a new approach for the lore team where they put the new lores for all the targon champs on a seperate page and later they did the same for the shurima champs. These lores can be found here http://na.leagueoflegends.com/en/site/mount-targon/index.html http://euw.leagueoflegends.com/en/featured/shurima/intro

Well that sucks.

Jaredan has said he's aware of how bad it is and they're working on it.

Liss will probably get new lore during the upcoming Freijlord event.
