Why the Mordekasier name change really doesn't matter
Hello Summoners,
I don't usually show much presence on the boards, but the recent complication involving the change to Mordekaiser's title has incited me to say something I think people should consider when arguing on the topic.
Here is a complete list of places you hear Champion's title:
- The Official Champion Spotlight released by Riot
- ...
And that's it.
There is almost no other circumstance where you hear a Champion's title.
Not in game, not when talking on boards (unless you're ranting about how bad the new champ's title is or something silly like that), and not when talking about League in real life (like we ever do that >.>)
Honestly, does anyone actually refer to a Champion by their title? Is it that much of a defining feature?
Could you imagine if we talked with this...
"Did you guys hear about the experimental changes to Riven the Exile? It will alter the Exile's gameplay and mechanics drastically! And what about the random nerf to Evelynn the Widowmaker? She was not a Champion that was particularly guilty of being too powerful, yet the Widowmaker suffered nerfs to the costs on her W ability! I think a Champion that should be nerfed is Vayne the Night Hunter. I am aware that Riot Games has been issuing light nerfs to Vayne the Night Hunter, but I feel that the Night Hunter remains too strong, especially when compared to other, weaker Champions such as Urgot the Headsman's Pride or Galio the Sentinel's Sorrow..."
Writing like that physically hurt me, so I'm going to stop.
Do you see how aggravating that is? Of course, if people do actual refer to Champs by their titles, they're probably (and hopefully) less dramatic than that. But really, I ask again, is Morde's title really that big of a deal?
While I agree that Mordekaiser's old title is more fitting and accurate to his identity within the game, I don't think the change merited this level of conflict. I can understand making this much of a fuss over the changes to Morde's kit, but this is just excessive.
What I think is going on is people didn't particular fall in love with new Morde, so now they just oppose anything Riot does with the Champion. If you really want to revert Morde to what he was (which I don't think is a good idea, he wasn't a very enjoyable lane opponent before, not that he is now), you're going to have to pick your battles, and not complain about literally everything Riot does to the guy.
Eventually, they'll just tune the community out. Hell, they already have to some extent.
So, if you disagree with anything that I'm saying, feel free to downvote me.
Or offer some explanation as to why I am wrong.
I'd prefer the second option.
Thanks.
