So Ryze might just be a Shuriman

So for those who don't know, Human Ryze has been renamed to Young Ryze and is pretty much his canonical appearance as a young man (or close to it). What's interesting though is that his clothes and skin tone, which to me seems a tad darker than many other human champions, indicates he's potentially Shuriman. Couple this with the desert and Shuriman themed architecture in Young Ryze's splash art and I'm led to believe that Ryze was Shuriman born or visited ancient Shurima in his early days, keeping in mind that he's now centuries old.

You can't look at that building behind the magic around Ryze's hand and tell me it doesn't look like the Palace of Ten Thousand Pillars (The building with the Sun Disc above it).

I mean we'll probably get solid information with his new lore, but hey, I saw something interesting and wanted to play detective, so sue me.

EDIT: Reav3 has confirmed that Ryze isn't Shuriman, and really doesn't belong to any one nation, but he has been to Shurima as the splash art suggests.

An ancient powerful magic user that isn't Ionian? I approve.

So, I don't want to say too much before the lore comes out, so I will just leave you with this.

Ryze was around long before modern Runeterra was really a thing, so he isn't really from any nation you would know about now. He does travel a lot on his journey though, and as he travels around he might were garb of a nation he is in for awhile. This splash when he is young and indeed in ancient Shurima before it's collapse. But he isn't from Shurima he is just visiting at the time of this splash.

I'm going to (figuratively) keep my fingers crossed for Icathian.

Azir - All reworks lead to Shurima!

I'd say he's probably Icathian. The symbols simply 'look' Icathian, and can somewhat look a lot like the ones on Malzahar's old coat. Along with that, people have been speculating a lore event like Shurima's and Mount Targon's for the Void, and another Icathian champion sounds good for a nice entrance into an event like that (Taliyah's the reason we got the Shuriman event, and Aurelion Sol was for Mount Targon). The only special interaction I get from Ryze in his VO video is when he tells Malzahar in a grumpy sarcastic tone something along the lines of Ryze "Oh, you, the one who let all the void-beasts free. Yea, great idea..." So it sounds like he knows a bit more about Malzahar after all, which can mean we get more lore on him as well.

Their clothing looks similar, their hairstyle looks similar, it might just be that Young Ryze is associated with Shurima.

I'd actually say he might be a magelord.

After all he doesn't seem to be allied with any nation and if he was shuriman then he'd likely have a few special lines to some shurima champs(but then again Kalista doesn't have a special line for Hecarim so who knows).

Why just not make a "new" skin instead of renaming Human Ryze?

Ebonmaw Dragon6/28/2016, 11:33:29 PM1 votes

Looking at the backgound... i would say that he was from Targon.

Is this skin gonna be released? Even if only for a limited time? It's the one I like the most :(

Called it bitches.

Forbidden Siren6/29/2016, 1:00:30 AM1 votes

I'd speculate that he's... a Noxus who is trying to find his way in life by exploring and living in Shurima.

Solari Fortune6/29/2016, 1:45:53 AM1 votes

I think it might be he visited Shurima at some point to collect Runes Only His Lore will tell

MeDicenWera6/29/2016, 4:37:49 AM1 votes

Oh. That's a drastic change of that skin. I like it, just didn't expected it to changed that much, It's awesome tough

If he is Shuriman, and since he safegaurds runic magic from those who may use it for evil, we could possibly see lore where he's in contact with Xerath who would desire to use it for his own power. It would flesh out Ryze in the lore while bringing a new side story for Xerath which I'm down for.

Yeah, the first thing I thought of when I saw his model was Sandstorm Ekko. Seems to be a very likely theory.
