To everyone who hates Aatrox's new voice, I have a request

As the title says, I'm going to ask you something: Picture that you have a brand new OC. This OC is an Immortal alien war god who carries a living Greatsword with ease, and whose sole purpose in life is to fight, kill, take over and destroy things. This OC was also trapped inside his weapon ages ago, when him and his entire race were defeated after rebeling those who wanted to control them. His race is also like him, powerful, ancient and proud. Now picture him loose from his prison, ready to unleash havoc and mayhem where ever he goes, ready to get revenge for his brothers and sisters and letting the world know that he has returned to destroy them for what they did to him. Now you need to put on this OC the Vibes of the voicelines of old Aatrox and new Aatrox. Wouldn't you agree that giving this OC a "narcissistic, meglomaniac, proud, bloodthirsty , rageful, Megatron like" voice is a better choice then giving him a "Behind the scene, puppetmaster in the shadows, schemeing mastermind" kind of voice? Think about that.

Nobody argues that it does not fit the backstory, it's just not the Aatrox some people were attached to.

Plus that ALIEN WARGOD OF DESTRUCTION AND RAGE is something EVERY 12 year old comes up with, it takes some more effort making a nuanced character.

The problem is that the Aatrox you described isn't the Aatrox we knew.

In the old story, Aatrox was never imprisoned.

In the old story, Aatrox didn't want to destroy the world. He just loved fighting.

Now he's different. That's why people don't like it. He was cool before, and now he's different. People want the cool things they like to stay the same.

AurelionSol Nautilus Renekton Xerath Kayn Right, fools we would be for thinking such a thing, obviously a character with his story couldn't have a different voice over.

"Now picture him loose from his prison, ready to unleash havoc and mayhem where ever he goes, ready to get revenge for his brothers and sisters and letting the world know that he has returned to destroy them for what they did to him." Like his jokes? as you replied to numerous people before me:"Oh I'm sorry, appearntly making jokes is forbidden on entities. Didn't get the memo.", but do they fit the character you potrayed? I don't think so., that's cause he has a personality and as such it is full of facets. So yeah, I thought about it and it could have been different.

"Narcissistic, meglomaniac, proud, bloodthirsty , rageful, Megatron like" entity wouldn't try to be funny, make stupid jokes and sarcasms.

If he was more serious but also the features above, I could handle it.

But he is now a total joke, a walking meme. Almost Kled like. They are both murderers but you can't take them serious.

Sad part is, you try to find one serious, not tended to be funny interaction, only to you think you find the one but in the end there is another forced fun.

Look at the Taric quote. "Not today obviously."

Beyond trash.

When the hell was Aatrox ever a puppetmaster? He fought his own battles and inspired men to reveal the horrors within themselves until the atrocities they commited with said power corrupted them to the core.

That kind of power is terrifying.

"I know what lurks within the hearts of men."

I don't doubt he'd be angry but do you really think a being as presumably wise and old as Aatrox wouldn't be able to act out his will without screaming and making fun of everything like an asshole? Not to mention he sounds like a Disney-fied Dracula that takes everything like a joke.

To me, Megatron has always been a little bitch in the Transformers saga as he loses all the damn time.

I expected to hear more sadism and less lame jokes. Most importantly I did not expect one of the few calm and stoic "evil" characters we have in League to be robbed from us like that.

Look. You can argue from the angle that this fits his re-invented lore. But this version of him is definitely less subtle and less intriguing, ESPECIALLY to people like me who have been loyal to him from the beginning. Former mains are very upset for good reason.

Well I've thought about it like you said, and no. Mainly because your final question is somewhat disingenuous. A voice alone can't be "puppetmaster in the shadows" or "scheming mastermind". On the contrary, Aatrox in the old lore was a major actor on the front lines, visibly driving conflict. His tone was contemplative and had a cold confidence, but he was undeniably a well-known symbol of slaughter. I don't see any of the puppetmaster in the shadows thing, and I certainly don't hear it in the old VO. And an aloof, contemplative, confident tone can work on new Aatrox's story, and should have been made to, if preserving the essence of the original is in any way a priority in these reworks.

Imagine you have OC you know and love and then someone changes canon cuz... I dont know... The fuck was actual reason? Im pretty sure none even exist. And now you have something completely alien to what you had before.

I don't get why people think he's all jokes when literally the only thing we have is his special interactions, something that tends to be jokey even for otherwise super serious characters like Swain. We haven't heard even half of his voice lines, waaaaaaay too early to make any judgement about how "serious" he is.

JCPANDIT6/13/2018, 7:39:03 PM3 votes

Having Aatrox maintain his calm and stoic personality - only to become enraged in his lines to hated foes (Panth, Zoe, etc.) - would have been a really nice contrast.

And the issue is, the oppprtunity was there. Not all of his lines had to be said as angry shouty man, but that’s the direction that the voice actor and voice director chose. I think that was their biggest mistake with the voice. In fact, I think some of his lines would have sounded much better if they were spoken more calmly; giving them a more sinister feel.

I don’t agree with people thinking he’s now a flat, one-dimensional character. I think Aatrox is more nuanced than people are giving him credit for. He expresses a whole range of emotions, which I think is awesome. I just think it would’ve been better if these emotions were contrasted with a calmer default.

Even the special interactions aren’t a bad thing. I can see why he makes jokes; he’s amusing himself. I just think the angry delivery towards almost everyone is out-of-place. His lines to Akali and Anivia, for example, could be less shouty and more sinister.

TLDR; the voice acting has taken away from people realising his potential. He should sound more sinister than angry in most of his interactions.

I find it honestly strange that there seem to be so many Aatrox players who were totally invested in his character and backstory before the update. Like, where was everyone before this?

Wild Geese6/14/2018, 2:11:53 AM3 votes

I love the new voice and it's pretty much the best part of this pretty medicore rework...

He has way more personality, he sounds better, his motivations actually make sense! And what's wrong with playing as the bad guy??..

I guess people don't like change.

You know, with that story background, I only imagined one thing.

"FINALLY, SOMEONE LET ME OUT OF MY CAGE! NOW, TIME FOR ME IS DIFFERENT 'CAUSE I'M COUNTING NO AGE!"
