Let's have a lore talk...

WARNING: WALL OF TEXT there is a tl;dr at the bottom, but if you intend to post negative comments, i suggest you read the whole thing (づ。◕‿‿◕。)づ

Yes, riot ruined the lore. Yes, i loved the old lore and can't believe what they've done with it. But no matter how much our questions get ignored and things like this, I have 1 question for us all. What makes US think that we can be so rude to THEM, calling them idiots and fools for ruining our lore. News flash, it's their game, and they can do what they want with it. I know im going to get a lot of hate for this post, but hear me out: You are all raging, cursing the game devs and other reds that have nothing to do with the "lore team", insulting them and pounding them with questions. No matter how much you think they are ignoring you all, this is their job. Riot doesnt pay them to sit around and do nothing. And guess what? You do not pay them either. Yes, you may buy skins or other things, but this is a free to play game. You did not pay triple A prices for a fantastic storyline. You pressed a little "download" button, and here you are, acting like someone has stolen your money, time, or heart. Picture it like this: your favorite author just released a new book in your favorite series, but it's for free!! You get excited and pick up a copy. Soon after starting to read it, you realize you dislike what the author has written. This gives you no excuse to call the author out. He took a lot of time writing it, and you're acting like it's your story. Of course you have free will to say whatever to want to whoever you want, But please, think of how rude and disrespectful you are being when you post these posts. If you disagree with the lore so much, nobody is forcing you to play. I really dont like what has happened recently with Riot fucking up their lore, but I am more surprised with the fact that they aren't recieving "criticism" as much as "FUCK YOU I WANT MY MUNEYZ BAK".

Fuck these rito staffs, but i love them and i do respect them for the work they put in to make all of this content possible. I feel that you all should at least not be so bm towards them. Thank you all for reading, and I am sorry if i provoked anyone with this statement. </end wall of text>

**TL;DR: **Although riot has fucked up the lore pretty hard, We shouldn't treat them with the disrespect that has been shown towards the staff lately. They work hard to make all this possible, and in the end this is a ftp game so its their lore, they can do what they want with it.

I took a lot of time reading it. I started caring about the characters. I was invested in the lore. Then Riot just tosses it out carelessly and replaces my character with a different one while pretending that it's totally the same guy in a different setting.

They hurt my feelings, carelessly threw away my investment. I'm not going to insult them or call out any one Rioter, that'd be rude and inappropriate, but I am going to complain and be very disapointed in the lore department as a whole for retconning Trundle, then not posting anything more than 'he might not be the same' in far over a year. I distrust the new lore department and I have a very good reason to. To say I am unjustified in my complaining is unreasonable in my opinion.

Actually, I do pay Riot, and anyone who buys champions, skins and RP does. Sure, its a free game, but plenty of people pay into it anyway because they make cool stuff. Even if you don't spend any money, its time invested. Take your favorite book series, and your favorite characters, spend hours reading them for free, loving a character or a place and then have the newest book say none of that was real. That never happened. That character isn't that person at all. How could we not feel betrayed? Especially when before, the summoner's working with the champion, were US, the player actually incorporated into the world.

Sure, its their game and they can do what they like with it. That doesn't mean I have to just be cool with their new ideas, and I can always go find a different game. They can only make so many changes before people just go elsewhere.

All the rudeness comes about simply from being ignored. There have been plenty of civil and polite posts asking for answers or changes back that have gone unanswered.

Honestly I feel like Riot decided to make large changes to the lore fully expecting for some people to disagree with their decision. I also think that the amount of hate they are getting instead of constructive criticism has made them be less forthcoming with meaningful conversation with us in general. I fully agree that everyone shouldn't be rude and insulting toward them no matter how much you feel they might have ruined something great.

"Fuck these rito staffs, but i love them and i do respect them "

Erm. What?

I get what you're saying but this sentence confuses the shit out of me.

Rudeness, threats and the likes are inexcusable and you'll find a lot of those who complain on this board in agreement about this. Nonetheless, that this is a free game is no excuse for handling badly their community, considering that, in their own words, they strive to be the most player focused company in the world. It's them who set the bar high, we just like to remind them of this via our complaints and pleas when, like in this case, we feel wronged. I never supported any other reason of criticism to Riot's doing because I've always liked how they rolled and handled the community. For instance, back in the days I didn't even have the time to realize they revealed the splash for the new champion, Lux, that it was already redone due to poor community reception and their feedback. They've quite always been like this, even though they messed up from time to time. With lore it's been different though. We've got the only solid lore source, the JoJ, closed and a silence on these matters of years. Then they revealed they have been doing a ninja-shift of the canon by subtly stopping to mention the IoW, because they thought about retconning its existence. What's worse, they told us about it only when things were done and settled. Even worse, they didn't consider any feedback nor entertained a valid two-way discussion.

You may argue this all comes free and you'd be right, but to argue that since it comes free we should stay silent and provide not our feedback would just mean that you would actually want us not to support this game at all. If I must not care about so huge a thing as a retcon, then why should I for anything lore related this game might have? If it's theirs to play with to their own satisfaction, they may as well keep it unpublished. If, like they stated, they do this for us, for the community, then it doesn't make sense that they hearken not to our desires and demands. This all it's not about money, it never was, it's about sending them a message: we care for their work and we suffer for their inexplicable and lazily argumentated choices. But if you really want to enter the economic side of things, well, I always supported Riot with actual money. I read somewhere that the percentual of players actually giving them money is (or was) quite 4%; well, then I am one of those proud four guys for every hundred of us who has contributed to support their project (I even did it back in season one, when the graphics was ugly and skins mere recolors; I even bought the digital collector's edition) and keep the game free for everyone. I don't do it for the cool stuff only, I do it because I believe in Riot's way of making videogames as opposed to, say, EA's. What does the retcon mean for me? That I'm not as sure as before if I believe in them pursuing such a way, that I trust them a whole lot less than before and if there was a slider to decide to whom assign the profits of my purchasings (like on humble bundle), well, I wouldn't give a cent to the lore department until they eventually got their stuff back together. And looking at how unprofessionally they have left myriads of plot holes for the sole sake of announcing a retcon they were not ready to pull yet, well... you can only imagine how much time would pass before, in that hypothetical scenario, I could feel like trusting them anymore.
