It's somewhat complex. It is matriarchal, as the Females are larger than males. At the same time though, Rek'Sai is the main producer of babies, as she is the largest and Queen.

Other females do produce children, and they're allowed to live, but Rek'Sai gets first pick and as such ends up with the most powerful offspring.

They regularly kill each other the same way other animals do in test of superiority, under the idea of survival of the fittest, and best genes reproduce.
