Why is Xeraths Ascension different from the others?

Xerath is an all-powerful being of arcane energy, only restrained by an magic sarcophagus. So why is everyone else a powerful animal guy?

NasusNasus is a the Egyptian god Anubis, RenektonRenekton is Sobek, and AzirAzir is Ra. Following the pattern, I assume he should be wearing a golden mask like the one on a sarcophagus (Which would be totally badass). The other options are having the head of either a hippo, a cat, or an ibis, but that's pretty unlikely.

Anyway, why did Xerath get the special treatment of being a being of all-powerful energy why everyone other ascended got turn into an animal? Am I missing somethin here?

Because 3 reasons:

a) The ritual was intented to be for Azir. b) He corrupted the ritual. c) He took more energy than the usual.

Xerath wasn't originally an ascended so his design was not intended to look like the others. Actually it would probably be more accurate to say that originally Renekton and Nasus weren't ascended but why quibble over that when the true point is, the characters were not meant to be related.

The in lore reason would probably have something to do with Ascended choosing a totem or having the totem chosen for them by the vague powers that be. Since Xerath was not chosen nor did he choose a totem instead warping the ritual to his own ends it did not effect him like the others.

Its because Xerath manipulated the ritual.

I mean looking at the ascension of the other 3,it seems that the ascension process takes only a few minutes,if not seconds.

Xerath however forced the ritual to continue for hours,if not even a whole day,he absorbed much more cosmic energy than the other ones.
