A theory of Amumu

So while I was viewing this page, I came up with an idea.

Take note that this is only a theory, not solid evidence. But I have discussed the idea with a few people and they all liked it.

There has been a lot of debate about what and who Amumu is (or was). He's either a human child or a yordle adult seeing how tall he would be for a yordle child... Unless he was half-yordle.

His personality very much says "child" and his height says "human" but his proportions and digit count (yordles have 4 fingers on each hand except for Corki, who I think is just a human dwarf) say "yordle". Seeing how nobody took yordles seriously then or now, who on Runeterra would let a full-blooded yordle be the emporer of Shurima, being such an odd race to the land. It's not too much to say that a yordle slave was brought to Shurima and birthed a child to a Shuriman noble, after all, in Azir's bio, it does say that he had "ill-advised interactions" with some of his slaves. However, whatever plague that Amumu's touch spreads must have killed off all other suitors for the throne and only he survived, being the only choice left.

Another factor in Amumu being half-yordle is that in Veigar's lore, it says specifically that "...isolation is very dangerous for yordles - undoubtedly why his cruel jailers did such a thing - and Veigar was slowly driven mad." Now, being just a child, Amumu would have had little concept of good and evil and was most likely stricken with grief and doses of rage rather than full-blown hatred. His ultimate sadness and loneliness combined with a yordle's innate magic must have caused him to rise from the dead to seek comfort.

As I've said before, this is only a theory, but if it was in the lore, I think it would look something like this.

Just two centuries prior to the fall of Shurima, a non-descript girl was ripped from her native Yordle-Land, never to see it again, and brought to the vast Empire of Shurima. She was sold as a slave to the royal family and spent many years of service to the leaders of Shurima. She grew to be a young woman of great beauty.

At the unexpected death of the current emporer, his eldest son took the throne and his second son was a stand-in for his eldest.

One late night while this slave was working alone, the second-in-line took something of a "liking" to this woman. After having what was most precious to her torn and being left beaten in a hallway, she wept.

After committing this horrid act, the monster of a man assassinated the emperor, his own brother, and assumed his place upon Shurima's throne. Knowing that the new emporer had also slain his father and now his brother in a mad grasp for power, the slave woman sought to end his reign. Calling upon the innate magic of her kind, she cursed him and all his seed to punish his carnal desires for the flesh with a terrible malady of the flesh.

Not long after he incantations, she found herself laden with a child and was mortified, knowing it was his and would bear his curse.

The awful, flesh-rotting disease slowly killed the emperor and made him suffer for his crimes. The royal physicians and wizards could not save the emperor or his sons, but they discovered a babe that bore the illness and knew he must be the emperor's last remaining child.

His mother spent days without food or water and pleaded to every god and goddess she could think of to spare her boy. She prayed to the deities of her homeland, to the ascended of Shurima, she even sought the mercy of Kindred.

Finally, her prayers were answered and the boy overcame his affliction. Even though he was an undesirable choice for emperor, being the illegitimate son of a yordle, he was the only surviving heir, and thus, destined for the throne.

The boy, Amumu, became decent for such a young emperor, the natural wisdom of his Yordle blood seeing through. During his reign, he chose to not war against other nations and his people were content, to say the least. He tried to free his mother from slavery, but his advisers warned strongly against this act, knowing the major change in Shuriman society that freeing even one slave would bring.

Things went well until a tragic accident caused the death of Amumu's loving mother. In his grief, the boy emperor tried to bring her back by any means possible, he even tried to order an ascension ceremony for the corpse to restore life to it. The deities of Shurima took this as an insult and returned his horrible flesh-wasting disease they curbed so many years ago.

The Sun-Priests offered a quiet and reserved burial in the Tomb of Kings to help ease the agony on their young emperor despite the traditions laid long ago.

The boy was still racked with sorrow and no longer sought to fix the pressing issues of the empire, letting it fall apart. Without an active ruler, the people of Shurima became angry with Amumu and, when the sickness brought about his end, they buried him in an obscure tomb far from his mother's resting place. When a fair and just noble claimed the empire, the people rejoiced.

Without the spirit of his mother to comfort him, the innate magic in Amumu's blood caused him to rise in his tomb. Without memory, Amumu only knew he missed someone and didn't know who."

He now seeks the deserts of Shurima for a friend when, unbeknownst to him, it is his mother he longs for.
