Becomes much more disturbing when used in conjunction with that quote.

But between you and me, I think Illaoi had something to do with Gangplank's survival. You don't just attach yourself to a powerful figure of authority and let that go to waste. Not to mention she's now pushing herself into Miss Fortune's affairs. Illaoi is playing both fields, I suspect.

I also got that feeling from Illaoi as well. She didn't seem so angry that Miss Fortune for killing Gangplank. And even says how hes not that important compared to Bearded Lady.

Also I feel like we know too little of Illaoi right now to judge. How faithful she actually is to Nagakabouros is also up for scrutiny, but hell we don't even know what she looks like. I'll save my judgement of her when we get to know her a tiny bit better, but at the very least it's clear she knows way more about what's going on. Hell it wouldn't surprise me if she had encountered the River King many times before.

From what little we do know, she seems much too calm and confident about Bilgewater's situation. There is something off about her that raises my suspicions; Gangplank means little to her, or at least appears to, as does Miss Fortune, apparently devout to Nagakabouros.

What is she playing at?

Not a clue. The way she was going on to Miss Fortune implies to me that she's trying to direct her, in a subtle way, to the idea that Gangplank is alive. Miss Fortune probably has it nagging in the back of her mind I'd say, but if Illaoi knows better it might be in her interests to put the bounty hunter on that path. If Illaoi's truly faithful to Nagakabouros above everything else, than she might be gunning to clean the slate and make way for a proper religious society in Bilgewater. Alternatively she might actually be trying to help Miss Fortune and have the best interests of Bilgewater in mind.

Either way I'll be keeping my eye on the Priestess of the Bearded Lady; these are trying times and it brings out the worst in people.

No way man, doesn't seem like GP's type. Also, if Tahm outright lies, then he really doesn't have much of a claim. I always thought he was like, giving you what you want but not really. I don't think he would go back on a deal.

I like to think Gangplank is too old and stubborn to accept supernatural aid, which leaves him at a slight disadvantage to those who do, but he pulls through anyway.

Well I mean, he IS a badass, but two of his abilities, most people accept as "he has an airship which he uses for ult and barrel supplies."

He's what Trundle was supposed to be. Outfight anyone you can't outsmart, and outsmart everyone else.

How would you explain though that GP didn't die. Tahm comes to collect the 'taxes' and MF be like "but he didn't die bruhtha" she doesn't know yet but GP is in BW so he'll probably still appear. I don't think Tahm can fail his part of the agreement unless she didn't choose her words carefully then Tahm could be like "but I did take him out c:" or something like that. Tho honestly I don't think she made any deal

That is what, I believe, happened exactly; Miss Fortune didn't just want Gangplank to die, she wanted to do it herself. From the lore updates we have seen, Miss Fortune has turned out to be strong-willed, confident, and quite shrewed. She possessed all the tools she needed to kill Gangplank, the only thing missing was an opportunity.

Enter Tahm Kench.

Even though Miss Fortune could easily have asked for Gangplank dead, I do not think she did, and since Tahm follows the spirit of an agreement, if not the letter, he had nothing to do with her revenge outside of setting it up. If Miss Fortune failed the fault would be hers, and Tahm had no contractual obligations to rectify said mistake.

Now, the only reason I suspect Miss Fortune cut a deal with the River Demon is because throughout Shadows and Fortune, numerous religions have been brought up, along with countless superstitions, most of which she has regarded with mild skepticism, yet when she's busy blasting baddies in the market square she takes a moment to impulsively kiss the image of Tahm Kench, an act of affection (I sincerely doubt anyone in their right mind would hold Tahm close to their heart without him tearing it out) or gratitude. Miss Fortune explicitly mentions how success is all about where you place your faith, and with so many beliefs appearing as little more than tradition and ritual, it makes sense to me she would hold some sense of smug superiority by knowing Tahm is real and he can do things, while all other beliefs rely entirely on faith.

I wonder what was the price. Yes probably the crew, and/or her second in command but might be something else.

Though nothing like the Harrowing playing as the "Tax collector" to bring about suffering (witnessing her crew die in such horrific ways) and then Gangplank shows up. She'll get bitter lol
