The following site, while I have no translation for it as knowing sod all of the language, but apparently the wording on the image says "Victorious Tree".

I for one am very excited for a new Maokai skin and will actually be doing ranked for a change to get it, though having seen Reddit's reactions I imagine there's gonna be a fair amount of dissappointment over the skin not being for a different champion. Regardless, Victorious Maokai! Thoughts?

Truth be told, I would have preferred Viktor but seeing that I play Maokai a lot more and prefer playing tanky champs I couldn't be happier.

Thing is, this is the victorious skin. Maokai barely had any impact this season of ranked, so I can definitely see why people complain about it. Makes no sense whatsoever to give him victorious.

its not based on ranked its based strictly on competitive play for the past 3 seasons maokai has been a very large ban in most metas and has seen lots of play hes a great contestant for the pick seeing as that is what they look for in victorious skins. to look at other jarvan janna elise morg and sivir are the others. morg is the only one that doesnt make sense to me but idk a thing about season 4 lcs but jarvan janna elise and sivir were all strong face champions of their meta jarvan was a pick or ban broken jungle all of season 1 janna was bad until a korean pro started playing her and found her to be completely broken elise has ALWAYS been a strong meta jungler in lcs and sivir was a pick or ban adc last season and has been pretty solid in season 4 as wll. thats the criteria for it like it or not

Last three seasons is irrelevant. Only last season matters. He didn't have a big impact last season. A couple of weeks he was strong, sure, but he wasn't consistent.

Actually he did, he was played pretty often in Ranked solo matches during season 5 as well as was seen a lot during the LCS/Worlds, so he had a great impact then. It's most likely why they decided to use him is because they were intending to give the skin to an ADC last season (Sivir) and yet Maokai had a large presence too.

To be honest I don't think I could be any happier to see this skin. I think he was a smaller pick this year, but definitely impactful, especially after his buffs. I'm pretty glad to see we are not getting ANOTHER Female. Because as much as I love Karma, Lux etc. There is a point where it gets annoying.

Most of the highly influential champs this season have been dudes, so if Riot made a (better) different choice it still would probably be in your favour.

None of these champions were very impactful on Competitive this year. Yasuo somewhat but he was more of a pocket pick.

He was most likely popular in the 2 months where riot decided who'll get the victorious skins.

Keep in mind that these skins are done waaay in advance,they likely didn't know themselves that mao would fall off so hard later on.

The art looks worse to me, less detailed. Maybe it's because Maokai is a tree and there really isn't much you can do about his facial traits. Anyways I know it's not fake, the site it was taken from is the official one.

His build was dominant, not him. In fact, you could have made the same argument for Victorious Poppy, if Riot chose her over Maokai.

You are right they could of picked poppy, though she has a skin that already has a the victorious look and that may or may not of been an issue with her getting it.

go google the amount of games mao was played/banned in(competive). % wise it is not a small number.

Also i was wondering why a unranked player cares about who the victorious skin goes to.

I wouldn't mind it if they didn't kneejerk nerf him halfway through the season when he started getting popular again. I was like 20W 5L with him and then Riot forced a meta change.

Historically, Victorious and Championship skins are given to champions who have been consistent picks throughout the season. This year for some reason Riot is giving them to champions who were only relevant for a few patches.

I'm so fucking upset. I just want to cry. I missed Victorious ELise (my 2nd favortie champ) and just barely missed Victorious Morgana (who looks amazing) and made it to Gold last season just to get the ugly Victorious Sivir (I use any of her skins over that ugly thing) and now I get fucking Victorious Maokai??? WTF? What about Kindred who was dominant pick/ban in every region for 75% of the split? Gnar? Lissandra? Rumble? Gangplank? Gragas? Graves? Fucking anyone??? I just want a reasonable explanation for why they choose him. I'm so sad. Really starting to dislike this game. Maybe there's still time to jump on the Overwatch hype train.

Honestly I am going to be surprised if it is Mao. Yes there are leaves in the picture but the face is all wrong. It is too thin and long and the nose is wrong. Not to mention the eyes being off... honestly it could just be a wood mask like kindred's who is supposed to be hiding in the jungle, or Jhin with a random background to hide his identity till it is official. But seriously the face is to wrong to be Mao when zoomed in and the picture as a whole seems more like an assassin in hiding.

I had so much hope on a victorious karma skin, I would have loved to get her as my first ever victorious skin :( But maokai is nice too, altough I already own his haunted skin.

Karma was played for like lowkey 2 patches this season in competitive and then she was nerfed back to being 'Eh' again.

why victorious maokai? Isn't alistar played more often than maokai? This season, there were a lot of games with alistar, ashe, irelia, ekko, ezreal, lucian, braum. Maokai wasn't even the top champ played in top. Trundle, ekko, and ryze was seen more.
