Taric Lore Update Discussion

I like all the discussions going around about the update for Taric and wondered if you think they should change his lore a little bit.

I think when he gets his update that his lore should involve the following:

  • Taric is a descendant of the Brackern (The brackern were unusual beings blessed with the earth's primal magic, embodied in the form of crystals. Their kind knew of an arcane ritual to bind their life's essence to a crystal, communing with the magic embedded in it.)

  • as a Battle Medic He was forced to use his magic in a sort of blood ritual to try and save his Father who was injured during the battles in Kalamanda

    • this didn't work and ended up fatally wounding Taric (this helps tie in his Bloodstone skin)
    • they had to create armor infused with the Crystals to keep him alive after the incident which gives him his power
  • There is talk in the Crystal Scar lore about a poisoning of the crystals... this could maybe tie into his Emerald skin

side note: I think it would be cool if Sona's harp was powered by the crystal and she actually was Taric's sister who was left on a doorstep after their Father passed away because Taric was in battle and couldn't care for her.

Thoughts?

I wouldn't retcon a champ who doesn't need it, Sona's fine where she is. And you don't have to worry about tying in skins, they're non-canon anyway. Noxus Poppy.

But your Taric idea seems pretty good, and a good link to another established part of the world. I think the biggest issue with Taric's current Lore is that he's FROM SPAAAAAACE like old Nasus/Renekton, Malphite, Kayle, Morgana, etc. (I think I got them all) Everything that happens in his Lore could happen on Valoran, but the place would be the biggest snag. I think Kalamanda works wonderfully, but the issue is that we don't know if Brackern are even a thing anymore. Skarner is now a tomb guardian in Shurima, probably as an attempt to weed out the JoJ stuff (although Kalamanda is clearly canon from "Reborn" so I dunno), so do the Brackern still exist?

I wouldn't make it so that Taric is a descendant, but more of a disciple of the Bracken. Maybe Taric was in fact orphaned in the war of the Crystal Scar/Kalamada...let's say his parents lived there and died in the battle but Taric was found by a caring Bracken, possibly mah boy Skarizznanur and he was taught the way of the gems.

The current issue with Taric's lore is that he is completely disconnected from any other character, and even the world for that matter. Taric needs a more solid relationship with Valoran and a more concise reason for his obsession behind crystals. What is the ancient power that he supposedly wields, and why is it important to him? It's been thrown out many times in Iron Stylus' threads that Taric resembles a paladin that brands powers over the earth and light/life. Perhaps a story including those themes would be a step in the right direction, while also building some solid foundations for his character. Bracken still seems rather unknown to me... what is stopping Taric from being related to the small cast of Mount Targon, whom we know very little about beyond the Lunari/Solari. If the mountain was a place of worship for the Moon, Sun & Sky, I don't see why there wouldn't have been a clan that also worshiped the Earth.
