The Community Rollercoaster

Anyone else notice that the community was clamoring for new, more immersive lore for ages, then when we finally get what we've been yelling for since forever. Then people see that GP was disabled because his ship exploded and he was thought dead. The epitome of immersive lore. Then the community immediately starts QQing over how 1 champion was disabled and that this was Riot's way of masking some bug and not because of lore (how that conspiracy theory happened, I still don't know). It was then revealed that it WAS actually because of lore. Everyone shuts up for a few hours. Then posts complaints about how it's bad that everyone with GP that plays him during the event gets a free skin and that his new base skin is fat. It's honestly kind of funny how ungrateful the community is most of the time, we got what we wanted and complained about it. Riot I apologize.

Several people, I'm sure, play Gangplank with a fervour similar to which I would play my favourite champs. If Riot disabled Viktor or Urgot, I would dread it. I wouldn't even be playing the game until they came back online. ;p

I suspect that disabling a champ isn't the way to go about things. But it's cool that they did do it at least once - because now everyone can look back on and talk about it. That's what lore's all about.

The lore fans were (and are) happy. I think it was mostly the non-lore fans that are angry that a champion is disabled for, in their eyes, a poor reason.

There really weren't that many people complaining about GP being disable. I am sure Riot knew no one was going to quit the game over it either.

Being unable to play a champion isn't immersive. The epitome of immersion would be you being in the story, either as existing character or your own. Currently, the games immersion extends to using characters from the lore and stops about there.

I'm fine with that, but it could easily be more. It has been more.

I think part of it is the idea of 'added' experience.

If they implement Black Market Brawlers, throw in a new map, and have some new icons to earn - that's great. They're ADDING material.

But if you're disabling a champion for a prolonged period of time (for lore reasons - which is ridiculous considering the retcon blogpost and all that) then they aren't adding material, they're removing stuff.

I imagine that's how some people would rationalize it.

Not really a roller coaster, these boards are pretty consistent in crying their eyes out over any and everything Riot does. But if it makes you feel any better op, this place isn't a really solid representation of the player base so don't take the QQ here to heart.

The community isn't one giant ball of happiness and sunshine; there's a lot of views and opinions. Some people like things, some people don't. At the end of the day everyone plays this game because they enjoy it, and they complain because they care, not because they're ungrateful. We want this game to be the best it can be, which makes it seem like we're a bunch of ungrateful arse wipes from time to time.
