A thought occurred to me late last night about Bard. If his role is to keep magical artifacts from being abused why did he allow the first Rune War? Was he not around back then? Regardless of the answer to that question what is he going to do now that a World Rune is about to be discovered?
The people of Runeterra need the World Runes, if they are to stand a chance against the Void, and possibly other major threats. This is why the first mission Zoe was tasked with was unearthing the World Rune hidden beneath that village. Of course being people, they are bound to use the World Runes to kill each other, hence the Rune wars, but that's the people's problem not Bard's, likewise Ryze sealing away the World Runes may or may not be of Bard's concern. Ryze actually has a quote toward Bard about this.
Yeah I really hate how one cinematic trailer was the extent of lore this character has ever had. We need more lore to draw back on for answers about the full extent of his power. This also has to have been something the writers have discussed in the past and hopefully have an answer for. Otherwise anytime something awful happens in this Universe, people are going to ask "why didnt Bard prevent that?" But apparently the cinematic was enough.
Having said that, I dont think Bard actually prevents things from happening per se. I feel like he guides things into the right direction but Bard isnt predestination by any means and people make their own problems, like Icathia's Doom.
The most likely answer is that the world runes at the worst will destroy all of runeterra but not much else so Bard doesnt really care about them, he only cares about important things like the fate of the universe.
Bard's job is to keep the world from being destroyed.
He doesn't really give a shit if people die or if the world is endangered, so long as the world isn't destroyed.
You know what I wonder... If one world rune is in the freljord? Maybe Lissandra has it, hence why she says ,, plans withing plans"?
