Where Are The Demacian Champions?

FallingMeteor··17 votes·17,268 views

Currently during the whole mage revolution, only 4 champions (Lux, Sylas, Garen, and Jarven) have appeared with two others being hinted at. (Kayle and Morgana)

I know it's suppose to be the story of Lux and Sylas, but it's weird how every other Demacian champion is missing and unaccounted for. You'd expect champions like Xin Zhao (The Lightshield's Steward), Vayne (Who hates black magic, or magic in general), Shvyana (Who is an Elite Guard) or Galio (Who gets awaken by magic) to make some type of appearance or mention.

While some can be explained like Fiora caring too much about her house's reputation to bother helping out. Vayne was last spoted in the Freljord and was injured.

You might find the short story, Aftermath, somewhat interesting - it really focuses on Xin Zhao during the current Demacian upheaval.

Thanks, I thought it was just weird how some of Demacia's high ranking citizens were just left out of the conflict. Now I just gotta wait to see what Sona's been up to.

Hey Riot this is more of a tangent, but when can we have a new Demacian champ who is a lancer that rides an adult Silverwing, where one of the attack would summon another adult Silverwing to help (the mate of the one being ridden by the knight), while their young rides with the knight and is constantly seen bugging the knight and their parent for attention (it will make some really good joke and taunt moments)?

The knight could also be a chill ass person who doesn't mind needing to constantly push the young bird (or cub?) out of way before their attacks and dealing with the constantly nuance during their duty while possessing both a stern and a mellow side (presumably a high rank knight or wall guard), if you know that I mean.

Thanks.

That's a good point, His lore states he only awakens because of magic I assume he's being kept out of the story for now because they want more issues instead of, Bam, giant statue, problem solved. It would be nice if they explained why he wasn't there however.

If they don't explain why i wont just be disappointed on riot, but on marvel as well, because they are not just some private company like riot, they are a well known and prestiged movie machine. They can't just let a "little" detail like Galio to slip away.

well, when you think about it, quite a few of the mages were, and I guess technically still are citizens, so galio would probably be a bit remiss have to kill them all, not to excuse him not waking up for the entire revolution, but maybe it takes a bit for him to wake up, but then that doesn't make sense, since it would be more likely it would take him a bit to wake up to distant fights than one that's happening in his front yard.

Whyte Lyon1 votes

Biolum wouldn't have the answers to every question. Although, Galio should logically awaken due to the sudden spike of magic being used in the capital. Yet there's are a few possibilities to consider.

First, and most important, Galio is actually housed outside of the capital on one of the main roads leading there. So he's simply too far away from the action to actually absorb enough magic to move.

Second, depends on where the mob of mages came from. I interpreted that they're all citizens born of the capital. Mages who weren't imprisoned and successfully kept their abilities a secret until Sylas sparked a rebellion. If that is so, one would assume Galio has permanently been surrounded by the magic of mages naturally living in the area this whole time. If Lux alone could bring him to life, surely a quarter (more or less) of a city's population who're also mages could inadvertently do it too?

Thirdly, Galio can only awaken if magic is ACTUALLY being used/conjured in his vicinity. While citizens who have magical capabilities but aren't doing anything magical in the moment wouldn't necessarily awaken him. Explaining why the mage section of the capital's population could be around Galio at any given time, and he still couldn't move.

Bigger than Sylas consuming all the magic that the city has ever absorbed? Really? I mean then we gotta wait for god damned Morgana to come back to wake Galio? Nah, Riot just got bored and wanted to focus on 4 characters (except if they have a trump card and mention black rose for the king's assassination which would be awesome)

HoldMyPlank2 votes

Well I was saying that to mean maybe something even bigger is coming

AccurateYeet1 votes

Well actually quite specifically yes. Sylas didn't change the overall quantity of magic around Galio, and in fact if he absorbed it all it might even be less. If he wasn't awake before he's not gonna wake up now.

WAZZZUP5005 votes

Galio awakens only when he gets a large input of magic. Sylas didn't add any magic; he just used what was already there. The only addition of magic would've come from the small, untrained group of mages who followed sylas after they escaped the prison.

Considering her occupation quinn is probably travelling.

That said, are Quinn's journals canon?

GreenLore8 votes

Galio is likely stationed too far away from the actual castle to awaken

Sona is likely in a spot where Riot has no idea what to do with her, so they just leave her out until they have a plan. Though its also possible that she is simply outside of the capital or wants to remain neutral in this conflict(after all it is unlikely that she'd support Sylas, but if she went against him she'd out herself as a mage and would make an enemy of both sides). She might also be in ionia given that we could see her and Ryze fighting there in one of the cinematics.

Shyvana was mentioned by Jarvan, hinting at Jarvan once loving Shyvana, which sounds like Shyvana might have actually left the demacian military. Overall it is likely that Shyvana will be the next big rework after Fiddle and Voli given that she was the number 1 pick in several regions during the VGU-vote, so Riot would likely keep her out of the story eitherway.

Quinn is a scout, so she is likely positioned at the borders of the demacian territory, far away from the capital.

Lucian & Vayne are both out and are on the hunt for evil beings, so its possible that both of them aren't even in demacia, but in some other nation.

Fiora No Idea what she does, she might be simply out of town.

Poppy wanders through demacia, so she is likely not in the capital all the time.

I just want Riot to keep Sona being a famed muscian, and Jhin hating her for stealing his spotlight. The issue is her instrument is floating, so she can just put a stand under it. Though her place in lore is kinda weird a mage in an antimage country, and also she's absent from both wars.

Tbh I really dont care about Jhin's jealous salt toward her, and let's be real she's a footnote at most in his lore. I just dont want them to turn her into this morally-gray piece of garbage lile they seem to like doing. Just let us have Sona as one of the undeniably good people in this game.

It's frankly ridiculous that they haven't updated her despite having focused on Demacia's anti-mage hardon for years now.

Sona's undeniably good? You mean the same Sona who discreetly developed a talent for killing people with music just so she could test her skills in the IoW?

If anything, Sona's more like a mute Draven than a goodie two shoes. Janna's the nice one you're looking for.

I always liked that she's described as playing for sold-out audiences. Gonna be honest, she always felt more like a mute Draven kind of character than the boring archetypal good girl trope.

Then that would be a total waste for a darkin. In all seriousness, with there being only 5 darkin in existence it'd be a waste to make a champion with a darkin weapon without giving us the option to play as the actual darkin themselves, because that'd mean that we'd get only 1 more darkin champ.

That's a rather close-minded approach.

There is currently no depiction of either a redeemed Darkin or one who is willing to stay in weapon form.

Etwahl offers a unique potential as that character, and could serve to flesh out Sona as a character very nicely, considering she's mute and has basically zero backstory.

And let's be honest here, we don't really need two more edgelords.

GreenLore2 votes

Sona would be a really poor character for either of these concepts. If a darkin chose to stay in weapon form or someone would use a redeemed darkin, then the darkin shouldn't be just a silent object to a champ, they should be at least an actual character themselves, even if they aren't the champion themselves(basically imagine a friendly rhaast).

That's pretty close to what i envisioned, really.

My vision of Etwahl as a person is off a very, very artsy Ascended, and she (im assuming female) keeps that as an anchor to her personality as a Darkin, so much so that she's unable to be sealed in a simple weapon, but rather in a musical instrument, or her preferred weapon which also was one.

I'm imagining Sona's paren(s) finding Etwahl as an instrument in a cave somewhere in Ionia, Etwahl takes one over, quickly begins to decay but has the time to realize baby Sona's magical potential as a future host. Takes Sona to a place she's likely to have decent upbringing (the orphanage) before turning back into her instrument form.

She then tethers herself to Sona (making her mute in the process?) and acts as a discreet protector to the child until she's old enough to become a host but has a change of heart midway through, possibly due to the child's natural artistic disposition. Etwahl influences Sona into developing her artistic sense.

Later, Lestara Buvelle (who i'd lore up to belong to either an artsy or historian family), visits Ionia post-Noxian invasion as a diplomat, hears of the child and her instrument, and recognizes the Etwahl for what it is. She immediately adopts Sona and brings her to Demacia, hiding her latent magic as well as actually teaching her how to play. Sona develops her talents to epic levels, and becomes a diva.

The result could be a Sona/Etwahl as beautifully interwoven as Kindred are.

Honestly I'm not sure if Riot would be ready to add a second character to Sona as the champion. Sure the past VGUs changed the characters quite a lot, but never have they added a second character to the champ.

It's not like what she is right now even is a character. Granted they might not go for my vision of her bit at least i know my version is A; an improvement, and B; true to her old lore.

As it stands even most of her mains know what her old lore is so poorly they think she's literally nothing more than their musical big breasted waifu pillow.

And, not gonna lie, that disgusts me. I'd rather Sona were deleted outright than taken in a direction that promotes that image.

If I understand correctly, we know were 4 Darkins currently are. Aatrox, and Varus are currently released, while Kayn holds Rhaast, and another is trapped in Sivir's weapon.

GreenLore2 votes

There isn't one in sivirs weapon. The aspect of twilight used sivirs weapon to depower and slay some darkin, but they didn't seal one. When she cut out the heart of the darkin, he was already human, there wasn't any need to seal him anymore as he was mortal already.

There are probably more than five Darkin now that they're Ascended and not inter dimensional aliens.

Could still be 5 from a Riot point of view, but after the retcon they made no effort to maintain that there are only five so we're forced to believe that isn't the case anymore for now

Varus in his comic does mention that there are 5 darkin. And I remember that a rioter later confirmed that there are still only 5 darkin, but that the tools to create more darkins still exist.

That Varus comic predates Riots' decision to make Darkin into Ascended. They were still going the inter dimensional alien route at the time. Varus is vague enough in the comic not to reveal it though.

Lucian is probably still fighting undead somewhere. Quinn as far as I know is scouting Noxian territory. Galio.... idk, he actually should be smashing the revolution. Vayne also out there killing monsters.

The rest I have no clue.

Shyvana is also hinted at by Jarvan. Xin Zhao has the aftermath story.

Galio and Quinn I'm not really sure about, both could still appear in the last issue but I doubt it. Champions that I was sure we wouldn't see are Fiora, Lucian and Vayne.

I think most of the Demacian champs are just in name. They don't have the same loyalty and pride like Garen does.

Lucian is off hunting demons Quinn is out in enemy territory Poppy is wandering and looking for the Hero of the Hammer Shyvana I'm not sure about, but my guess is she's not near the city or feels she can't get involved Vayne I feel wouldn't care about plain magic, just evil magic.

Hey, you guys are all forgetting about Poppy. I know that she's usually roaming around doing heroics while looking for a Demacian hero, but shouldn't this conflict have her beelining straight for the capital to pull off some more heroics while searching for the hero in all of this conflict? Hell, she could probably take a portal straight to it, if she wanted (though we don't know how well Yordle portals can work in Demacia due to the petricite and all that).

Doom emissary1 votes

Not really.

  1. As far as I know, the portals are set in certain places so she can't tp as she wants (not fully sure of this one). I'm saying this because of the images in the universe. They show specific zones with some kind of magical marks on them. It doesn't sound logical that she would herself make custom ones around demacia.
  2. She doing heroic deeds in a huge region. If you look at the map, there is the main demacian nation but also many towns and zones around it
  3. It's medieval age so there is no efficient way of communication. People far enough from the capital might just have no idea of what's happening yet. Or just just caught the news and she's on her way. They don't have cars or planes (if we assume she can't tp as she like)

It is true that Demacia's communication is slow, you're right on that. However, if I'm not mistaken, I think it was said that Yordles might be able to make portals? It's all super fuzzy and even if they can, there are probably certain conditions in which they can make them and etc.

Doom emissary1 votes

They definitely can !

My take on it was that it's something that takes preparation and time. They can't be made instantly on need (this is just my own understanding, it's not officially confirmed). So since this is an urgent matter she'll have to run toward one already made in case of urgency, then go out of the closest one to the capital.

For Demacia's communication, there is a rebellion in the capital, they even took over the castle and many important places. So on top of all the chaos and confusion there, the officer's forces can't move as easily (mages will kill them or imprison them). Don't forget that with their current technology (mediaval age) and without magic (cause demacia), their only means of communication over long distances is to send a person on a horse or demacian raptors (big flying mounts) or send a message bird. So it's definitely not super efficient. Countries like Noxus can use magic and others like Piltover can use Hextech devices.

you also forgot Sona she maybe from an Ionian orphanage but she was adopted by Lestara Buvelle, who is a demacian noble. Which then begs the question of also where is Quinn since Quinn is kind of tied with the Buvelle family.
