Soraka's lore and the inconsistency within part 4/3 (aka probably not as inconsistent as i thought)
Hello Ladies and Gents,
This is actually a 4th installment to my in-dept look into Soraka's lore and well, like the title says, the inconsistency within. You can read the first one here http://boards.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/c/story-art/FwHRGkqZ-sorakas-lore-and-the-inconsistency-within-part-13
...you know, if you want.
So without further ado:
The Bard, The Stars, and Soraka, Oh My!
Quick TL ; DR : I believe Soraka was created by the stars for the sole purpose to aid Ionia during the Noxus occupation and help them not lose their traditions in the process.
With the reveal of the Bard, I was hoping for some more in-depth story in the Stars, Soraka's and Bard's creators. Sadly, though, Riot decided to play the "It's all a mystery" route. So any information I was hoping to get on a silver platter was horribly dashed. I had to read up on the Bard Q&A and anything else I could get my hands on to find out more about the Masked celestial creature.
Most of it was simple. He's mysterious, he has no allegiance, he's not necessarily evil but that doesn't mean he'll help some poor sap off the street. He looks out for the people of Runeterra as a whole, not by individuals. Pretty much stuff you can figure out on your own.
Then I came across a few comment,
http://www.reddit.com/r/leagueoflegends/comments/2y1uf5/bard_mountain/cp5hb3f "If Bard intervenes it's to influence something in another dimension 10000 years ago. Bard's not healing you to save you - hes healing you because your great great great grandchild will lead a revolution in the distant future."
http://www.reddit.com/r/leagueoflegends/comments/2y1uf5/bard_mountain/cp5i9aw " He's (It's) an inter-time-dimensional caretaking guardian reverse Terminator." ~Riot Utora
These are some pretty interesting statements to make. This would mean that a celestial being knows exactly how things are going to play out and plan accordingly. If this is true then I would also guess that Bard's creators, the Stars, also wield this power because I would assume you would need to be able to have this type of ability to actually give it someone as well. With this, I'm basing my theory that the Stars actually know exactly whats going to happen and plan to deal with things.
So, what does this have to do with Soraka? I believe that Soraka was created for a certain task. Lets make a comparison between Soraka and Bard: 1.Bard appears to be unsympathetic about the daily life of humans. Soraka , on the other hand, cares quite deeply about the many creatures walking on Runeterra and tries her best to help as many people as she can.
2.Bard does not speak the common tongue and if he does, he prefers not to. It has been proven that Soraka could speak the common tongue given her conversing with the people that came to her grove and Warwick while she was not fallen.
3.Bard seems to have as little human contact as possible and whatever contact he does have it is quite brief. Like in point 2, Soraka seems to have made contact with people of Runeterra several times and they have been quite intimate in the sense of a personal caretaker of the sick and dying.
If we assume that Bard is the norm of what celestial creatures are, a being who tries to take care of the Runeterrans while trying to not be as involved with the daily lives of those people, then why is Soraka crafted so towards in being so involved?
I originally believed that Soraka's lore was inconsistent because she didn't have any followers during her time in the grove, there was no protection in place to keep Soraka safe, and overall the grove itself was absolutely useless.
But what if that wasn't the case? What if the grove actually had a magical barrier around it to keep it hidden and only revealed itself during certain times when it mattered, like a dying person looking for aid. They would get healed and then go to some nearby village claiming a miracle. Others would show up but the grove already went back into hiding.
This would keep happening until there was a Story about the mystical satyr of the grove who would heal any wounds when you are all out of options. Enough so that the story would actually leave the shores of Ionia and find it's way on the Runeterra mainland. Enough so that a hunter looking for a celestial heart would know exactly where to go.
I believe Soraka's fall was all orchestrated by the Stars themselves. But why? Because of the War between Ionia and Noxus.
When Karma was rising in power, she was playing a dangerous game, balancing the Ionia tradition and fighting the Noxus nation. She had to bend old rules, bend their traditional ways, in order to gather forces and stand a chance against this new occupying force.
If things went south, Karma may have broken those traditions either by accident or on purpose out of desperation. There was also the possibility of Ionians taking things too far and abandoning their ways regardless to protect their homeland. Enter Soraka: A well known mystical creature of the stars, who has actually suffered greatly because of the conflict, begging the Ionian people to not lose their way for the sake of winning this war. With someone like this backing Karma and to help keep her in check, the Ionians would be able to push back their invaders while still, for the most part, hold true their beliefs and ideals.
So if Soraka was created to help the Ionians guide themselves during their most dire moment, why not just help them directly? Why go though all these loops just to send someone to aid them? Why not just smash the Noxians out of the water?
Because I believe the Stars are following rules. I don't know who set them up or why it is being followed. (Or it could be they want to help the people of Runeterra but don't want to help to the point of controlling them. Also given, how Ionia seems to be on the path of non-violence for the most part, the stars probably looked favorably to them. )
So by creating soraka to be the polar opposite of the supposed norm of the celestial beings and having her fall from grace, the stars would be able to indirectly aid Ionia without breaking any of these possible "rules".
Although, this is just a theory from a rioter who isn't even part of the narrative team. Yeah, thats right. Riot Utora was actually the audio/sound designer of Bard. But he did have this to say: http://www.reddit.com/r/leagueoflegends/comments/2y1uf5/bard_mountain/cp5pyfz So it could be valid... ...that is until Riot Jareden or someone from the narrative team steps in and says, "nah, he was talking out of his ass." But until then, I'd think this is rather a strong theory as to why Soraka was created and fills in the inconsistencies that were kind of a big issue.
So, what do you guys think? You have any of your own theories?
