So Warwick is now listed on the Champion Rework Schedule site

Champion Update Schedule

So I guess we know who the third rework Riot was hoping to get out this year is?

Given that this'll be a VGU, it'll likely be a new kit, in game appearance, new splash arts, VO and lore for Warwick. The question is when?

Also as clarification, the likelihood is that given the needs of the champions, Yorick will be before Warwick and Ryze will be before both of them, provided everything goes according to plan.

Well If I had to guess the timeframe of release for each rework. Ryze - Late July - Early October Yorick - Late September - Early November (Getting in that Harrowing spirit, especially since Harrowing doesn't have to match up with Halloween now) Warwick - Late November - February (I'll be honest, I won't be surprise if this gets delayed to 2017)

Of course, I could be completely wrong. These are just my guesses.

Riot has been releasing reworks quite frequently. I doubt we'll be getting Ryze 5 months from now, Warwick sometime next year and Yorick 6 months from now. If it took Riot that long to release reworks that would mean they are extremely disorganized and outright lazy.

ChimeiTekinaNasu3 votes

That's kind of how it is though. If you click on that link and look at the dates. 3 months after juggernaut was marksmen. Then a month later was Poppy though they were already in the middle of her. 1 month later was the small Shen rework. Then another 3 months later was Taric. Then a week ago was Mage update which they started planning months ago. So I'd say like 3-4 months between or so.

Smithney8 votes

Some Rioter(TM) hinted that CertainlyT's on the job. I am trusting him since the marksman update, so I hope he doesn't disappoint. The least I would want is a stupidly complicated champ sitting at 450 IP (looking at you, Ryze).

Boy.... Zyra Darius Yasuo Zed Kalista will get a brother that will be Certainly OP. He is going to be a broken overpowered overloaded champion

Take Zed out of that list. He was not designed by CertainlyT

ooo put plzz tell me will he still be ww in the cines that he chases and heals off of his damage ?

Riot's stated their idea of Warwick is based around this: his blood scent is staying period, he's gonna have sustain, and he's gonna be fairly tanky.

A Liberal9 votes

CertainlyT WW:

Passive: Every three hits, WW deals a large amount of max %hp true damage and heals a flat amount that scales with AD.

Q Passive: The cooldown of Q is reduced by one second after every basic attack Q: WW Lunges himself at an enemy stunning them, and dealing magic damage scaling with AP and AD. The lunge also cripples them, reducing armor and magic resist.

W Passive: Attacking jungle monsters and champions grants WW stacks of Lunar Menace. Killing or assisting in a champion death automatically grants 100 stacks. These stacks are shown in his resource bar. W: At 100 stacks, WW howls and gains massive attack speed, movement speed, and on hit %hp magic damage, rapidly consuming the stacks. This ability can be activated again early to heal for an amount scaling with AP, which consumes the buff.

E passive: WW senses the presence of low hp enemies, granting vision and move speed towards them. Attacks against hunted enemies heal WW on hit and deal a portion of damage as true damage. The amount scales with AD and AP.

R: WW fully embraces his werewolf nature and drops to all fours. During this time, WW can freely move over terrain by climbing walls. The amount of missing hp required for enemies to be hunted is halved, and he gains lunar menace stacks at an increased rate. His q is also set on a fixed cooldown. WW can refresh the duration of this ability by killing an enemy champion.

Note the total lack of regard for character story, the three hit passive, descriptions the size of textbooks, and extremely overloaded abilities.

Also, true damage.

his small ones of cait and graves in the MM update were everything we could possibly ask for, after numbers were tweaked (I SAID, GRAVES, AFTER NUMBERS WERE TWEAKED. YOU NEED TO CALM DOWN FOR A SEC SO YOU CAN BE FKING NERFED).

His larger ones tend to be 100% gameplay focused ignoring the original character, but when he's forced into smaller projects, he's solid.

Please, please, please don't give him the Taric treatment. No mini-games, no convoluted skillshots. That is not what Warwick needs!

Sorry. You're in the minority. None of these people care about Warwick. I bet they also didn't give a shit about Sion, either. They just want everything about him changed so they never have to experience playing against one ever again, although I'm not sure as to why they are so full of hatred towards him.

R.I.P. Warwick. 2009-2016/2017.

If you stay too faithful to a severely outdated kit then you cannot solve the problems of that champion. There are 2 ways things can be now:

  1. WW stays the same, gets no buffs and lies in the dumpster forever.
  2. WW gets a major overhaul that gives him meaningful gameplay and more levers for the Live Gameplay team to balance him so that he can still be relevant.

I rather have Warwick be different but relevant.

There's a fine line between staying too faithful and just flat out removing EVERY SINGLE ELEMENT of a champion, including their entire kit, visuals, and voice. I'd be fine if maybe he lost his suppression, but kept his movement speed in some way shape or form, or vice versa, but that's not what they're going to do. They're going to get rid of the healing, the running, the suppression, the voice, the lore, and for the most part, the model. Also, I don't mean altering it heavily, I mean COMPLETELY changing it to the point where if his name isn't Warwick, people would think he's a new fucking champion.

Blackquill3 votes

I think you underestimate the design crew there. What would fit a werewolf better than hunting down (read: running) a bleeding (read: low HP) target, locking it down on the ground (read: suppressing) and feasting upon them, regenerating himself (read: healing).

Currently im imagining Warwick to have his current E toggle as either his innate passive or a passive on an ability and his current R as a mixture of Vis Assault and Battery and Volibears Rolling Thunder, an ability where he runs at his target and suppresses it when he reaches it. And somewhere in that kit will be a form of self sustain for sure.

Poppy still seems to be Poppy for me. You bang people into walls and smack them with a hammer. Okay, Sion got completely changed but honestly he was a total mess of a champion. He was an undead, bulky, shield burst mage with Schwarzenegger lines...and everyone should realize that this was not a sustainable image. But the werewolf theme, the hunting theme, that is a good foundation to build a rework upon.

Linna Excel4 votes

So why is WW being done before evelynn?

bloodmoth22 votes

Warwick is easier to tackle, they know what he is and what they want him to be, but with evelynn they really dont know wtf she even is. Her entire lore is basically "WTF is this?"

Once they decide what she is, and how they want her to fight, then they will consider working on her

Smithney1 votes

From what Meddler mentioned here, she is supposed to be a flanking assassin (á la Ahri I would imagine). He also mentioned in the same comment that she is a strong candidate for a VGU next year.

bloodmoth2 votes

I dont think like ahri as shes a mage with mobility while eve has none of that, but yeah i read that, it doesnt really say much, and i wonder if it would even be worth pursuing as her damage pattern is distinctly sustained, the guy who replied to that post made a decent point...

I actually wouldnt mind seeing her turned more into a fighter than an assassin, partly just because i dont think that there is an assassin in this game that i dont hate, but also because i dont think someone with that passive should also have high burst...

anywho, they still havent decided exactly on what she is lore wise

It's a shame that WW isn't a true werewolf, I'd love him to be able to bite minions and monsters and enemy "pets" (Yorick's ghosts, Tibbers, voidlings, etc.) to make them temporarily turn against their team and/or be passive when attacked by WW or one of his allies. Part of the pack sorta thing...

For me, aside from his tankiness and ability to chase, I loved that WW was able to be a proc-hit champion, even a hybrid proc-hit one. I hope that manages to stay somehow.

bloodmoth4 votes

I know its pretty early, but could we get some info on the direction of the rework?

Just like what role he will be intended to fill (bruiser, juggernaught, diver, tank, light fighter etc) Could provoke some useful feedback on what the community wants before moving forward, i think i remember seeing someone say that the intention for yorick was for him to become a juggernaut, most are happy with.

As for his design and direction, is there anything you guys are planning with him? For instance, his current design is pretty straightforward, i mean his new splash art is amazing, but hes kind of just this werewolf with some armor. I guess what i mean is, will his theme change? like going from basic werewolf to hextech werewolf, something more representative to zaun or something else entirely?

Also i think he needs some thematic hook to really distinguish him from other anthropomorphs like nasus and rengar. Nasus is permanently in his werejackal form, and rengar im sure we can assume is from a race of kittymen (unless he is secretly a housecat ascendant?), at first glance one might assume that warwick isnt even a werewolf but perhaps just part of a race of wolfmen, which i feel completely cuts out the core of what his character is, which is a human who paid a price for power that is slowly consuming him, which we could then see why he wants to so desperately cure himself

Personally i would like to see him become a gnar-like transforming champ that starts off in human form and transitions into a beastial werewolf form after being in combat for a time, say after he gets 8 stacks of his passive his next attack has X bonus range and causes him to dash while transforming into a werewolf or something badass like that! I mean what better champ than a werewolf character to be a rage based transformer? This would also introduce the players to the human side of warwick so that we can get an idea on what the before and after effects of his transformation are, and what he has had to give up to attain his power. also in lore he was a badass man hunter without the transformation, then afterwards is supposed to be even more badass, so it would be great if his werewolf form truly represented that badassery by being his powermode.

Im sure you guys have a ton of ideas already, but i just really wanted you all to consider this direction before its too late!

InvadingOreo1 votes

Based on current WW lore. he was a human. Drank a bad potion and now is a human wolf hybrid. And its all singed's fault

bloodmoth1 votes

yeah i still think half man half beast isnt all that interesting, transforming between human and beast though would really go a long way to distinguish him from the other beast people (voli, ascendants, rengar, alistar, wukong) and he is unique among them, and any other opportunity in the future would likely feel like its doing what warwick should have been...

Sweet! My and my roommate guessed it!

I am so looking forward to this! I don't really play Warwick, but I've liked how they did Sion and Poppy (before they removed the AA reset from her passive...still bitter about that) and they weren't even primarily made for the jungle (which is where I first started playing them). Warwick is a primary jungler, so I might find a new primary jungle champ (since Poppy jungle is basically gone...I miss the AA reset, it helped with clears).

Gonna be a LONG time though.

Blue Moon Wolf1 votes

I think Riot said he's going to be getting more of a Shen level rework rather than a Poppy or Sion one since I don't think they are giving him a new model entirely, but it will be nice to see what they have in store for him since he's one of the champs that haven't gotten much work done to them in ages.

do you guys know what direction you want to take him? will he be staying largely a diver?

I think it would be cool to give him a pounce, or a stronger feeling that hes hunting you, but obv without making him feel too much like rengar or kindred. I'm sure you guys will deliver though, just please get rid of that suppression!

his suppression doesn't make you feel like a badass werewolf, or skilled or awesome. it just makes everyone else hate you for playing that garbage champ. they didn't keep taric's boring shit or poppy's ridiculous ult either.

Yea we totally need less counters for the increasing amount of mobility in league :D

I always loved Blood Scent. It makes me wonder how he'd perform if, say, persistently running towards a target would stack movement and eventually cause Warwick to run on all fours. Might allow it to be a more rewarding and efficient clean-up tool opposed to just being able to say "whelp, I see you!"

This idea has made me happy in mind and in pants.

Seeing WW run on all fours like Twitch does with HOME GUARD would be... HUUUUUUUNNNNNNNGGGGGHHHH!!!! summoner 7 summoner 32 summoner 3

Would love to see his E actually seem like he's sniffing them out. Like once they're on low health, you can activate it to see the scent trail of whoever is low, similar to Rek'sai. It'll be like you're actually on the hunt.

just please, don't wreck my WW builds anymore. Practically replacing devourer with Rageblade was fine but, tread carefully when changing WW's kit. Most of us WW mains like having absurd amounts of sustain. RIP old item 1419

Poppy jungle is far from gone, with a 9.5% play rate on her. The AA reset was nice, but not necessary.

Ralanr2 votes

Without the reset it just feels awkward. I still do it because I hate bringing her top.

President Swa1n1 votes

Out of curiosity, why don't you like playing her top?

Ralanr2 votes

I guess I don't feel like I can do much in top lane with her. If my opponent is smart enough to stay away from walls, then I can't really hurt them. I also find myself getting punished for getting my buckler too often. It's possible I'm just not used to her playstyle in top, but I just preferred her in the jg.
