Jax: The Grandmaster at arms - Rework

I saw a thread with dated back a few months talking about how to adjust champs lore, who are directly connected to the League, while maintaining their personalities.

This, and a recent ARAM match with Jax made me wonder, what about him? I guess this thread would be to explain how his lore could be reworked. Should the main points be kept (recently risen into stardom, skillful with all weapons, but decides to keep a lamppost), or should everything be redone?

My thoughts:

Jax's past is a mystery, with no real details except the fact that he was once a mercenary (not even notable, along the lines of Sivir orMissFortune ). Given he's friends with Gragas , I assume he would've been pretty down on his luck and they were drinking buddies.

Given his rival is Fiora , I could see that he won a duel against her that brought him into the spotlight, where he quickly rose to fame after.

Two mysteries exist with his current Lore: The multi-eye headset he has is very similar to MasterYi , which makes me wonder what purpose does it hold? The greatest relation they hold is that thing, which could mean Jax is from Ionia.

What do you guys think?

I was thinking that maybe he could possibly be one of the magelords that was talked about in Aatroxs lore. I mean you could kinda see Aatrox in his splash art at one point iirc.

After reading some forum discussions of Jax, including some wild speculation about him being Darkin or something comparable, I decided to take a shot at putting him into the Factions universe. The obvious solution for him is to just make him some kung fu warrior dude, and explain away his choice of a latern as a weapon by saying that it's a super-awesome magical lantern that's mightier than any sword or spear. To me, that's a cop-out. I think it's more interesting to try to explain why someone would choose to fight with a lantern. That's what his current lore, which was published long before the Great Retcon, does. But even within the Factions universe, which did not follow the Great Retcon, I think it's kind of lame to say "he fights with a lantern on the Fields, but uses real weapons off the Fields."

So, I decided to try explaining his self-nerf through the lens of the Darkin-or-whatever theory. (I also mixed in a little bit of that "Here's to you, kid." vibe, because feelings.) Here's the lore update that followed:

Nyroth Update 3: Not Your Hero

I actually rather like this version of Jax.

Nobody really knows what the blue eyes are, if they are a natural feature or additions to his eyes. Master Yi's goggles are the only ones of their kind: custom built by Heimerdinger, the Seven Lenses of Insight give Master Yi unparalleled vision, across different spectrum and zoom ranges, controlled by his mind, allowing Master Yi to adjust view range hands-free. These goggles provide almost no benefit to any other person, being specifically tuned to Yi's magical aura. If Jax got the same treatment, he would need to be especially rich and/or close to Heim, as Master Yi probably got his for free for being a "beta tester". So, not only does Jax's visage not tie him directly to Yi, the goggles themselves have no ties to Ionia.
