Now its NUNU's turn to shine

Now that urgot's VGU is here, its time to speculate who is next after Evelynn to receive a VGU and my bets is nunu. Nunu deserves it better than the others(some might be triggered by this lol) because he is so outdated and we need an update to freljord too.

If nunu's next, my wish list would be:

  • don't change the laugh of nunubot lol
  • give a better lore for him and the yeti
  • make the yeti very nightmarish
  • if you don't like him to be a human. you can just make him a yordle since nunu, a human in a yeti seems out of place/generic and gnar(idk a freljord champ yordle) seems doesn't represent freljord because he's place is kinda in the jungle and by that we don't have a freljord yordle that feels in that place. You can just do a VGU for him like the galio/sion reworks to make him a better champ.
  • if it is really nunu. 6 months prior today will be winter and its nice to have an event circulating around a freljord champ in that season and that would be nice if its the rework of nunu to represent freljord. I hope for another freljord event.

thoughts of the next VGU's after my wish list nunu are (in order):

swain - we need the noxian update haha. pantheon - he needs a modernization. morde - 2 words; pizza feet and bugs. akali - he needs a modernization with green/emerald eyes and a lot of boob jobs. kayle/morgana - needs to be updated + need some lore info . malphite - i love him GU but lore wise not so much and needs an update. He needs to be an ancient mountain that wants to protect mother nature. cho'gat - needs to have a sion/galio rework. irelia - has a lot of potential to this girl. give her a skill like gilgamesh(fate series). dr.mundo - modernization i guess plus lore update. amumu - clearly needs an update. he is suffering from an identity crisis to everyone (is he a human/yordle?) since riot confirmed that he is a yordle he needs some polishing. fiddlesticks - needs to be a shadow isles character. doesn't need to be a demon like tahm or nocturn. maybe make him like nautilus a scarecrow consumed by the mist in bildgewateror something

PS: I love you and no hate :D and this is a speculation for the next VGU after EVE and AATROX is just a GU.

Keep in mind that we try to avoid doing 2 champions in the same position back to back and Eve and Nunu are both junglers.

Nuns is a high priority though but so are many of the other champions on your list.

May I ask what the thought process behind that is? Is there concern it will unbalance the role of junglers in general to much or...?

Considering they are two very different champions thematically and game play wise it doesn't seem that much of an issue from those perspectives?

It's more about trying to serve as many players as possible. This is the same reason we generally don't do 2 new champions in the same position back to back either.

This year has been all about junglers. Warwick, Kayn, Evelynn, Zac, Sejuani.

Many people play one role primarily and then one off role. We want to spread the VGU love around.

I see, thanks for the reply, and you know... there is this certain metal monstrosity of a botlaner toplaner that could do with a rework, not many top laners getting vgu's, wink wink, nudge nudge ;)

Personally, I don't see that as much of a problem. After all, you are releasing Kayn (jungler assassin) back to back (kinda) to Evelynn (jungler assassin) ;)

That just exacerbates the issue imo, three jungle releases in such a short time frame feels bad for those of us who play other roles and want to try a new champ/rework in those positions.

It isn't jungler and jungler back to back? First comes Kayn: Jungler. Then Urgot: Top laner. And then Evelynn: Jungler.

So no issue here.

I think it again boils down to personal perception: for me it would be no problem, I can imagine that for someone else it might be :)

its more about the fact that we get so much jungler stuff in one year(new champ,2 VGUs,2 GUs).

Though then again we also got quite a lot of toplane stuff(especially since new Galio is played mostly top).

Overall I just realize that almost everyone among the top VGU candidates is a top laner or a jungler

Morgana is the only champ who isn't primarly played in top or jungle(though a few others can be played in other positions as well)

Eve is also an assassin as well, so do secondary roles also count for not wanting the same roles back to back? I.e. The next VGU after Eve won't be another assassin?

Assassin is not a role, but a subclass.

Roles: Top, Jungle, Mid, Bot, Supp Subclasses: Vanguards, Wardens. Divers, Juggernauts, Skirmishers, Assassins, Battle Mages, Burst Mages, Artilleries, Marksmen, Enchanters, Catchers

And yet Lee Sin, Elise, Kha'zix and Graves are still the only junglers anyone ever gets to see.

Funny how all your work on junglers has no real impact on the role because noone ever bothers to solve the problems.

Rengar got killed during preseason 7,Graves are you sure about that?,Shaco was killed too after Q nerfs,Kindred death from season 6,Sejuani still a viable pick in organized comp in my opinion,JarvanIV rising due to the nerf to some of his primary enemies,RekSai one of the best pick now (still in my opinion),Warwick ????

Rengar actually came alive in pre-season 7. He had a 48% winrate before his Rework and was pretty shitty (though soooo much fun to play) and then his shitty over-tuned rework came. Although it was super OP and he saw competitive play it was soon nerfed into smithereens and then killed after about 7 patches of being nerfed.

We wouldn't force a VGU just to hit every role. It's more that when looking at the pool of High priority VGUs we try to get variety in the line up.

Is there a Champion from every Role in tier 1? Since we got some new VGU's, could you list tier 1 again for us (It might be "updated")? Maybe some new champions joined. Are you doing only tier one BGu's rn or are you slipping some other champs in between like maybe Janna and her.... bald kit?

I would really appreciate an answer.

I thought reworks were chosen based off of which champions need it the most. I understand switching it up with new champions, but switching roles for new VGUs too makes it seem like change is being done just for the sake of change (ZacVelkoz).

They absolutely are. There are quite a few Tier 1 champs that we feel need a VGU. It's more about creating diversity among the champions that we feel all equally need a VGU

That wouldn't be 2 top laners in a row because Eve was in between. A majority of the champs that need VGUs right now are top laners and junglers.

Not sure I'd expect Mordekaiser from either Eve or Urgot's team actually. Seems like a creative nightmare after two dark champions.

Well jungle wasn't even really a role in the beginning of LoL and we really didn't know how to make top lane fighters way back in the day.

We said we weren't doing big class updates all in one patch but instead individual updates released when they are ready and prioritized against all other champions. There are some divers that are still high priority to rework they just won't be in a big seasonal patch. Aatrox being one of them.

Nocturne isn't listed as a divers anymore. He belong to asssassin class now, because his them fit more of assassin, even if his CURRENT kit is diver.

Two things:

  1. Is the Diver Update you are gonna talk about in the next Champion Roadmap someone other than Aatrox?
  2. If you will release updates individually in the future, what will you do if you see the need to do system-level changes for a group of characters, like what you did for Juggernauts?

  2. We will do them of course. We have done a lot of work to support itemization, for example, independent of a support class update.

Gameplay wise it's the scope of a full VGU so it is pretty far off as we just started on kit iterations.

In that context: May I ask what you consider Dr. Mundo? I know he won't get the VGU soon, since we already got Warwick and Urgot from Zaun and you want to provide diversity, but for future assumptions it would help.

Is he a top laner or jungler in your opinion? Because right now, the only role he is able to maintain kinda a high winrate is jungle, but personally I always thought that he should be a top laner.

I think for any future VGUs, I am sure a champion can be balanced around two roles? I.e. some champs can go mid/top lane equally, and even jungle. Does that mean a champion that gets a VGU will have the other roles aside from the primary role removed?
