Anyone else just sighing at Narrative's promises?

I've really just been slumping over everything they say. I know that what they promise isn't going to be what they give, and we will just get another story without anything but an introduction. I've truly lost hope, and I really feel bad for the optimists among us. Well, that was all I wanted to say, guess I'll go back to reading whatever threads about story I can find on here. I'm putting my faith in factions.

These events are a band-aid to the problems plaguing Narrative is that it runs like a complete and utter joke.

Ten months. For ten months they've asked for patience. They wanted an ambitious rework to finally free themselves of the constraints of the IoW and the League of Legends itself. Okay. That's cool. Most of us were mad - probably. Retcons are never popular, but that certain naive percentage believed that more was coming.

And nothing ever came.

At least nothing of the scale of previous lore. With the Crystal Scar, you had the JoJ slowly hinting and building up towards the story. You had the emergency JoJ issue. You had Skarner as a champ release and a gameplay mode to seal the deal. It was an actual STORY. You had Demacia and Noxus slowly escalating the conflict from minor mining town drama to full blown international incident.

With Bilgewater? Blegh, let's do something for summer. No build up or anything. Just slap it on and go.

For me, Narrative is a joke. It's an utter joke.

  • For one thing, Narrative doesn't tell a story
  • For another, Narrative definitely isn't replacing the lore like it promised it would, it's actually butchering it DOWN IN SIZE
  • And lastly, Narrative is so focused on worldbuilding aspects with flavor text and short stories about OTHER characters besides the champions themselves and introduce them in stupid ingame taunts as eastereggs after saying gameplay and lore was now divorced.

Utterly ridiculous.

Admittedly, all of these would be really minor issues but goddamn - TEN MONTHS? These people were paid for ten months? Actually, it'd make more sense if this was outsourced to an intern or a bunch of volunteers but the fact this is coming from PAID RIOT-ERS, oh man - what a joke.

At some point I'm not even getting my hopes up when I see a redpost on this board...

How long has it been since the retcon? Almost a year? And still NOTHING to replace the IoW. I would have been fine with them replacing it if they would have presented a ton of new lore the same moment (compare to the retcon of DC comics).

At least with DC and MARVEL they at least try to retell the story of their beloved characters if they do a retcon. Of course the retcon is met with a lukewarm reception, but at least they bothered to try. In fact they sometimes try to tell new stories with the characters they got. Top that off, they don't try to erase their past work.

Development of a story requires someone dying (otherwise you have Tom and Jerry).

Champions can't die because that would take them out of the game completely. That leaves:

  • new characters introduced and die in the same 800-word long chapter.
  • known individual are used but at the end they shake hands and leave, no one is hurt or wounded.
  • known characters can be severely wounded or die but still return later unscathed in tom-and-jerry fashion.

All of them are lame.
