How Old Galio could have fit in with Demacia

The strongest justification I've seen for Galio's rework was that old Galio didn't fit in with Demacia. And this point I more or less agree with, he was demonic and intimidating - not really a Demacian look. Previously I've said they should have just taken him away from Demacia so we wouldn't have had to sacrifice so much of his old character. However I think there's an even better solution that keeps his old look but fits him in with Demacia's lore. Disclaimer here is I'm not too into the lore so I'm not gonna get into too much depth here and I might be a bit off on some points.

Make Galio an outcast of Demacia.

Make Demacians hate him. Galio has always been a magic user, absorbing magic and using it to empower himself. Demacians inherently dislike magic, and according to new lore he was created to fight it off. Everyone is saying the new Galio reminds them of Superman, but I think his story would have fit better if he took after Batman. Instead of the shining hero in the spotlight, he could have been the silent protector. He would have been hated, but he would help them anyway because of a sense of duty and righteousness (probably tie that in with Durand's death and say he protects them in his honor, unless that's too much Batman, but you get the idea). This way he's still a protector of Demacia and he's still free to be a demon looking gargoyle mage.

And the great part about this direction for the lore is that Galio becomes a controversial character. He's used to defend against magic, but he also uses magic. His design is intimidating but his motives are righteous. His goals are in alignment with Demacia, but his appearance and methods conflict with them. His very existence causes conflict within Demacia, and those conflicts in turn can lead to internal struggles for Galio - should he continue protecting the people that hate him, or should he go into hide away and do nothing? Plus this can easily tie in with Lux's lore as well (I'm assuming Galio and Lux are related somehow based on the teaser image). She could be a supporter of him because she's somewhat of an outcast herself. I'm sure there's more potential that I'm not going to get into but I'm sure you get the idea.

So there, a way to preserve old Galio's character while also letting him fit in to Demacia's lore.

Honestly that sounds a lot like a certain other demacian champion Vayne

So basically make him more edgy?

He couldn't have been an outcast for numerous reasons - he's in the employ of Jarvan IV, he's Poppy's best friend, and he's listed as one of Sion's rivals in both character page and through taunts. Galio has a much bigger presence in Demacia than being an outcast would allow.

"Galio is like superman" I disagree with this, but based on your post, you are trying to make Batman Metropolis' superhero... There needs to be a Gotham if you want a Batman, and Demacia is no Gotham.
