What do you guy's want to see from lore?

Want to start by saying that I love lore and I love the lore team. The purpose of this post is NOT to flame nor to complain, but to discuss what we as a community would like to see from lore going forward (Not character or region specific lore like more garen or more freliord lore). Hopefully some reds may also notice this post.

For me some stuff I would like to see are;

  1. More interaction. We get a bit of this with name drops nut I would like to know how major events affect other regions, e.g. how is Noxus affected by a bird man raising a city from the sand.

  2. More focus on the present. A lot of stories focus on what happened or teases what will happen I'm the future, it would be nice to know what day to day life and problems entail.

  3. More non-release related images. A LOT of lore makes references and comparisons to flora and fauna that we have no idea what they are and if we do, sometimes it's up till months later. One example iifc, is noxian drake hounds were mentioned earlier the big demacian lore drop I think but we didn't see them till swain.

  4. Less lore tied to re works / new champs. Do we have to wait for a new/ reworked demacian champs for more demacia lore?

  5. Show more than tell. A LOT of lore tells us instead of showing. E.g. instead of writing how garen is courageous, we will get told that he is.

  6. More variety in storytelling. There are stories told by characters but some of them feel like they are told by the same person well versed and all fancy like. Would love to see some mix e.g. mundo's. Let the narration so more distinction in the teller's personality.

  7. More images and music. That's all

  8. More credit. Who writes, draws or composes these pieces of art.

What about you guy's what do you wanna see?

I would like to see the Lore from the past shape the decisions and actions of the characters as they advance the narrative. So far we haven't seen an advancing narrative

Well......I would like a simple map of Runeterra. But it's pretty clear it's not that simple (or else we would have gotten it by now).

Beside more lore about the characters I like or regions/storylines I'm interested, I want more Lore visuals. I want to see more of the world of Runeterra. I want to see more the events & interactions happening in that world. I want to see the champs' stories & lives in that world (specifically the champs I like or are interested in). I always been more of a visual guy.

I would also like to see more chapter 2s & beyond for many champs. Many champs are either still on chapter 1 of or haven't even began their stories. Or in the cases of champs like Ryze or Nasus, most of their story is backstory that didn't happen in the current timeline (whatever the freak that is). It kind of sucks how MissFortune have gotten a higher amount of lore love than someone like Diana Yorick or Braum.

This next point expand beyond the lore team but is still relevant: I want a more lore focused game set in the world of Runeterra. Let me play as Garen Taliyah Riven Irelia Sion & so much more in a game centered around one of them or a group of champ. I would LOVE to enjoy playing as many champs without having to touch League Of Legends. I started playing League for the characters in the 1st place.

More non-champion, reoccurring characters like Rafen. Not every story can be carries solely on champs alone. Some stories need side, supporting characters. Having other characters help the world seem more alive & like the champs aren't the only characters that get things done. It also could help add some depths & whatnot to a champ by showing them having various types of relationship with other characters. Showing off a side of the champ we would never seen in game or from normal champion interaction. Having normal characters along side the champs also helps us compare & see why the champs are legends. I will add this note: Not every champ &/or story needs reoccurring side characters nor do stories need a lot of side characters. In fact, having other characters can ruin a story (depending on said story).

Speaking more characters in a story, I'm cool with the idea of more champ on champ interactions as long as it:

  1. Make sense in the context of the story. Having Lux & Garen interact make sense. Having Swain & Darius interact make sense. Having Ashe, Blitz, Lucian,Veigar & Zed all in a story together doesn't make sense in the current canon. If it does, it's going to be incredibly convoluted or an AU/fanfiction.
  2. Actually adds something to the story rather than being a Stan Lee Cameo. Having Morgana walk by in the background & say hi while Fiora is shopping for clothes doesn't add anything to either of their stories. So why have it?
  3. Most importantly, doesn't shit on/ruin one champ in favor of another champ. Respect both champs & their fanbases. Don't turn one champ into a dumbass just to make another champ look smart. I understand everyone wants to see more interactions among champs. It help make the world feel connect & less isolated like each champ is off in their own bubble. I just hope people want it in moderation & not for every story to be the Avengers.

A more consistent & somewhat faster release schedule for lore content so some champs aren't waiting years for some lore love or more lore love. While we're at it, can we not go the skins team route? You know, not pumping most lore love into a select few champs & giving them major content often while other champs gets very little & a much lower frequency. The lore team don't have to worry about selling this stuff, so we don't have to mostly focus on popular champs.

And beside that, just more lore for the champs I like & regions I'm interested in. I am a simple man with simple wants.

Well, that was a quick writ-.......oh. Okay, I guess my discontent with the state of the current lore was a lot higher than I expected. Whoops, I rambled on for quite a bit.

I'm probably in the minority here, but I'd like it if they'd focus on giving each champion a full lore(at least an updated bio) before focusing on continuing some stories.

I can understand the desire for progress, but it just pains me to see Miss fortune having already 2 stories to advance her plot, while other characters are stuck with only one paragraph of lore.

Also I am ok with them keeping their lore tied to releases as long as it doesn't impede the overall speed of lore updates/new lore releases.

Actual lore progression.

The stories and comics are really great at introducing us to a variety of characters but we rarely ever get a proper character arc for anyone. The war in Freljord has been a cliffhanger for years. Caitlyn’s search for “C” is still ongoing. Vayne’s still trying to avenge her parents. Lucian is still on a revenge path for Thresh. Fiora is still… killing people in Demacia to reclaim her family’s honour?

There is so much that could happen with every single character in League, and it’s a little disappointing that any lore we get is tied to content releases, giving us a drip-feed of information that often amounts to little more than “this champion is doing X for Y reason, their backstory is Z”… and that’s it. You’d think with the recent release of Kai’sa that we would’ve come to a confrontation between Malzahar and Kassadin, or seen an invasion by the Void, or ANYTHING. Instead we got a bunch of rewritten backstories with nothing more to add to the overall narrative. It’s very disappointing.

I would like at least once for a cinematics taken place within recognizable locations, and not just ones where it's some random environment with no substantial significance. Because some of these amazing cinematics are just set in the Shurima desert, or an arbitrary magical forrest. Like yes, I can easily recognize your animation is set on the slops of Targon, but it's just a snowy backdrop so big whoop.

Its not like the art/ world building department don't have concept art that have fleshed out the visuals for tons of unique landmarks. Take us to a Rakkor marketplace, or the Demacian palace, Bhuru, Kinkou monetary etc.

GenoXx3/27/2018, 12:46:07 AM2 votes

We've been saying that for a long time. They want it in a different direction, reason why I stopped hoping for it.

Catastrop3/27/2018, 1:42:52 PM2 votes

Literally anything Leblanc Lissandra related.

Also a map, I can't recall if we ever got an updated one after the retcon.

Jaspers3/27/2018, 10:44:23 AM2 votes

Progression of lore or ongoing narrative. Most events and lore we have are of stuff that was in the past to introduce a character or explain a region. Stories like Burning Tides and Bloodline all add to the characters, give character interations and show what they are doing now up to the very present.

They don't have to change the characters drastically to fit new stories, just show that they are growing and interacting in an ever changing world. Look at Marvel and DC, their characters, the most famous ones, in reality don't actually change (without the almighty retcon shoe horning in stuff) and yet their design and personalities remain the same, 60 years of it. There's no reason why, if they wanted to expand the game, they they could explore the idea of ongoing narrative.

Take Yasuo for example, his lore is open to the idea of a series of him trying find the murderer of his master while battling off bounty hunters and those that want revenge.

Other games with less success moved into other mediums to explore their characters, Riot generally haven't.

I want to see Champions die within the lore.

They may be champions, but no character's individual story is complete without their well deserved death.

I want to see Xayah and Rakan die to an attack from the Kinkou order after wiping out one too many human village. I want to see Darius go back to Noxus to find Swain or Leblanc pushed their schemes too far and one killed the other, inciting the Noxian general to go back to the Immortal Bastion at the head of his army. I want to see Ryze sacrifice himself to seal/destroy/prevent worldstone use forever. I want to see Graves and Twisted Fate betray each other one last time and kill each other. I want Sejuani to finally get Ashe's head on a pike and discover the secrets of the Watchers as her army advances on Lissandra's fortress. I want to see Yasuo accidentally stab himself 723 times and die because he realized he was really pretty pointless.

... You get the drift.

I want to see reverts. Mainly Trundle and Varus, but also Orianna, Mundo, and others.

World Map, City maps, Timeline, Flora, Fauna, Religions, Cultures, Myths, Festivals, Food, Music, Musical Instruments, everyday objects, images of regular citizens...

Basically give me a LoL Dictionary or a setting book on par with Warcraft Chronicles for the start and I will be happy.

More champions interactions.

With really few exceptions we got nearly nothing that more than one Champion shares with another, each one is the cool guy/girl/thing in their own story and while some hints point at inter-Champion development we are still too far from that.

I also wouldn't mind some new flirting or even romance between Champions if it makes sense so that Riot can stop being afraid of putting something in the lore because they fear a community uproar. They do it when it's about inclusion (while also not caring about the "makes sense" part and act just on their personal preferences) or what not but they refuse to do it all around which is starting to look a bit hypocrite.

Ifneth3/27/2018, 1:14:45 PM1 votes
  1. A chronology of the universe.
  2. Resolution of all dangling character plots, like what Zilean does.
  3. Ships. Tell us who likes whom and why. Are Lux and Ezreal dating? Does Ekko know of Taliyah’s crush? Will Jax fall for Fiora?
Tesla Effect3/27/2018, 1:22:37 PM1 votes

Also Riot should outsource more media to other people, like how they gave fan artists to do comics, they should get someone to do books, stories, larger comics, novels, and animation (TV show). They have to let the lore breath between each champion release and update. Right now, lore only lives every month or so, then radio silence until another update happens. And those updates arent massive, they just give us the basis of a character and location and thats about it, they dont expand upon each of the champions nor let the events continue right after they started it. Any kind of lore should be going around while you doing the next champion for the game.

Eventually the MOBA game will die and what lore you made up until that point is what will ether make or brake this franchise from continuing forwards, and right now we barely have anything to go around, small amount of info regarding the world, and even less when it comes to the character of each of the champions (what they like, what they dislike, what they went through, want they are going through, what they are going to go through...)

I actually want them to find a way to connect so many of these 'main characters ' (champions). We have the issue of the void and the issue of the shadow isles, does the shadow isles fear the void? I really liked the frejlord lore they had a long time ago, that was really creative. I just dont want them to change it too drastically. But I kind of want them to bring some lore from the past, it's just as Mordepool said, **"we haven't seen an advancing narrative." ** We have so many characters, but to completely change them isn't the right answer. I used to like the old varus lore where he was once a honorable citizen of Ionia guarding a temple. Now apparently, he's just the trope of "a deadly killer who loved to torment his foes with arrows, driving them to insanity before closing for the kill." I guess this is for something to connect more of Kayn and aatrox with some common stuff but I don't know. I feel like they are trying to bring this theme in that it's getting bothersome to me.item 2424

I want Riot to actually tell us stuff and answer the many questions they've left a mystery for years. I hate how vague they are and can never just answer anything that isn't meme related or random trivia they just made up. It's always 'Oh but we can't tell you yet look out in the future' and years later nothing has been answered. They write too many vague mysteries and never tie anything up. Even in newer champs like Swain we have no idea how he got his demon powers or the nature of the demon and there isn't any indication we will get any info. Very frustrating.
