during the mage update i was kind of hoping we'd get some lore updates for the mages, why is Zyra here? so shes a plant that ate a magical woman and made a body, does she belong to a faction? last lore tidbit we ever got for her is that she may go to ionia to find out about ahri because shes interested in how she works since they are similar.

Zyra's lore places her in the Kumungu Jungle, which is a place that's pretty underutilized as far as Lore goes. We know it's:
-a jungle
And that's about it. She hasn't really...done anything since, because she came out during a weird time in Lore where there was a huge gap in content, so she's a champion who really has no connection to the greater plot at all or any other champs (IE: Nautilus). I'm not sure where you're getting the thing about Ahri, I can't find it in any of her official stuff?
From what I can tell from her lore she doesn't really have a faction or really any motive except to try new things.
I would make her a member of the Black Rose as I did with Jhin.
