So, what're you thinking will happen when we head off to Mount Targon?

Mount Targon

So as well all know (If you don't I'm telling you now!), we'll be heading to Mount Targon as the next big lore feature thing-a-ma-bob once Shurima's been fixed up for the new style of lore. Mount Targon's a place we all know and love considering fan favourites Pantheon, Leona and Diana all come from there. It's a place we've all been dying to see! So my question to all of you is: What're you expecting from all of this?

Just to get the ball rolling I'll offer some thoughts of my own, but keep in mind these are only musings! Nothing's guaranteed at this point, that's why it's fun to speculate!

Event I actually don't know if we'll get a large scale event or not with this. It's possible of course, but will we see one of the scale of Freljord, Shurima and Bilgewater? I dunno. I hope so, but that's not guaranteed.

Storyline So of course we're gonna get a story of some kind, but what about? Well we're pretty much inclined to believe that the three champions of Targon will serve as the main cast for this feature, but how will it go? Will we see the inevitable clash between the moon and the sun, or will something unexpected drive a wedge in that plan? Will some none Targonian champions get involved? All I really want is Pantheon to be a bad ass. I'd also be down for some important Targon characters who aren't among its champion roster, which brings me to my next point!

New Champion You recon we'll see one? I recon it's too good an opportunity to pass up. Of course if no new champion surfaces it wouldn't be the worst thing ever, but I think we'd all love to see a new face representing Mount Targon!

Lore Changes Given the fact that this'll be essentially building the foundations for Targon as a place in Runeterra, we're inclined to see prior lore about the great mountain change, but then again there wasn't all that much lore about the place to begin with. One thing I'll be keeping an eye out for is lore changes for specific champions, namely Malphite and Alistar, who're two folks who seem like reasonable candidates for being affiliated with Mount Targon, Malphite because he's a mountain sized elemental being, so why wouldn't you want to link that to the largest mountain in Valoran, and Alistar because Targon's the greek centre of Valoran, and Alistar being a minotaur could work really well there. I almost expect his people to have their name changed from minotaur to something more creative, but I could be wrong. Hell I could be wrong about all of this!

Champion Updates Lore wise this'll probably mean lore in the new style for Pantheon, Leona and Diana, but what else? Could Pantheon secretly be up for a visual update?! Hell could LEONA be up for one? More doubtful but hey, crazier things have happened. I'd be all about a Pantheon/Leona joint VU.

A New Playable Map This one's probably the least likely of anything I've said to happen considering the time investment, resources needed and a mess of other reasons, but I'd be pretty hyped for a Mount Targon map. Dunno where they'd put it though. Maybe Summoner's Rift but a Mount Targon location? Oh god the possibilities!

So what do you all think? Will our trip to Mount Targon be a story and nothing else? Will it be a large scale event with VUs and skins and maps and the like? Let's hear your thoughts!

Personally I think Pantheon should be the core character of the event. Like how MissFortune was the core character of Shadows and Fortune. That being said, other champions had their own arcs and I think that should be allowed.

I recommend Pantheon simply because we don't know his stance on runeterra, while we do know the stances of Leona and Diana. His lore was the most affected by the retcon, therefore he needs the most focus. Where does he stand? Does he truly believe what others believe? What sort of person is he to his people, and who is he to outsiders?

Pantheon is the man of mystery on Mt. Targon. I'm dying to learn more about the perspective of a man who can view the world at any time from a birds eye view.

Edit: Gameplay wise I'd like to see a bit of a rework for Pantheon.

I know this will sound strange considering the group of champions this will most likely involve, but I believe I'd rather not see a huge slug fest. I think it'd be more interesting to see a rivalry between those that believe in the sun and those that believe in the moon. The tribe of Mt. Targon is one with a rift in spiritual belief. But for one day, these beliefs become whole, as the relationship of the sun and moon is respected and celebrated by all on Mt. Targon. Pantheon, being the greatest warrior, is sent to bring both priestesses back to the village for the festival. During their travels, both Leona and Diana express their views and philosophies and Pantheon must circumnavigate their clashing ideologies to get them home. The trials and tribulations they face on their journey help Pantheon internalize the methodologies of the two women and give the warrior a basis for how to incorporate their styles into the ebb and flow of combat. When they reach the festival, it's kicked off with a spiritual duel between the sun and moon, who clash in a heated exchange. In this, Pantheon sees the perfection in balance, why sun and moon must co-exist yet never touch, when to attack without reserve and when to defend with unshakable resolve. Leona and Diana gain a begrudging respect for each other, noting the other's skill without betraying their beliefs.

I think something along those lines would be far more interesting than seeing three warriors punch people for four chapters.

I am a Diana main. I can barely contain my hype.

Honestly I want to explore more about Pantheon. As it stands there is nothing outstanding about him, what he does his people does every day.

I like the thought of Pantheon playing a big role in the culture of the Rakkor.

What if there is a trial in which you must slay your best friend to be taught by a warrior. But Pantheon refuses to kill his best friend knowing that he may not be strong now but if he was to learn from a warrior he would be stronger. And so since he refused to slay his own friend he was banished from the village and his parents disowned him, for they do not want a son who taints their own name.

And so Pantheon resides in a cave and trains him self there. Stealing food from the village and fighting his way out when caught. Years pass and Pantheon is now ready to truly re-visit the village instead of lurking in the shadows and stealing food from them. But he needs to make it something all would know, a statement none could avoid. He remembers that the tournament is going to be held soon in which the strongest warriors from each Rakkor tribe join in a battle of death.

Knowing that he needs armor and a weapon he looks for help and finds an old black smith who is willing to help Pantheon make his own armor and weapon. While the black smith him self is old and weak he tells Pantheon all the things he needs to know to make his armor and spear. While hes there the old man talks to Pantheon and tells him how much different things were, the Rakkor were feared for their power and determination but now they were feared for their bloodshed and anger. Things that Pantheon as well agrees on remembering all the stories the elders told of their time as warriors.

Pantheon with his new armor and spear enters the tournament climbing his way to the top but still determined to prove his point. Each battle is swiftly decided he waits for their attack, he avoids it, and he pins them to the ground until they submit. By refusing to not kill his opponents his statement is clear, I don't need to kill to prove i'm the better warrior. At last the final duel, Pantheon is not about to lose it all here not after everything hes been threw to get to this moment.

The duel last for 15 minutes until eventually Pantheon is thrown against the wall. His body begins to grow numb the weight of his armor feels heavier and the grip on his spear is loose. Hes going numb and he sees his opponent standing over him with his sword ready to plunge it into Pantheons chest. He looks past his opponent and looks around the dome his eye catches a figure standing on top of the pillar, not one but two. He doesn't need to ask who they are for he knows what they want, Lamb readies her bow and fires it at Pantheon. But Pantheon is not accepting it he didn't come all this way to fail his heart beat quickens, his grip on his spear becomes tighter and he can feel a surge of energy wash over him.

The arrow bounces off Pantheon, it is not his time

Pantheon quickly gets up. Stabs his opponent's thigh making him fall. Pantheon quickly puts him self on top of his foe and starts throwing punches at him. Each punch envision all those who have wronged him, those who have fallen from the warriors path to only become monsters. After a minute he stops and gets up, he is relived to see that his opponent is not dead but merely unconscious. He turns to the crowd and says, "Where is the applause!? Is this not what you wanted?!"

I would really like to see the relationships that Mt. targon has with other nations as well as what Pantheon thinks of them. He might like noxus's strength makes might rule, but he may also stick with honor and stand closer to demacia. It'll be interesting either way to see what he views of the world. Also I want a damn map of where Mt. Targon stands.

I'm just waiting for the Ionia lore...

BattleBoar11/19/2015, 1:14:57 AM1 votes

After reading ever you have writing I could not pick one. I see a few thing happen. 1.Lore changes for old champs.= With ever event that has happen before this has happen. So I say this is a big thing. 2. Some VU=Same as 1. Pantheon really need one as well and it should not be to hard to do because of his two newer skin. 3.A Targonian Story=Another thing that has happen in all of them was some sort of story.

This are all the big thing I see happen no matter what.

I honestly don't know what to expect. The only thing I know is from one of Jaredan's comments:

I really can't go into specifics, but I think I can safely say that the celestial aspect is still prominent.

Now whether this means ALL of Targon will embrace the celestial aspect or just be a certain group or two remains to be seen.I mean,Ionia isn't all about ninjas.

{quoted}> Storyline So of course we're gonna get a story of some kind, but what about? Will we see the inevitable clash between the moon and the sun, or will something unexpected drive a wedge in that plan?

I wouldn't like a clash between the moon and the sun per se as I'm inclined to them being allies. Fighting is what people do, look what Diana says: "The sun does not reveal truth. Its light only burns and blinds."

Well, without light it'd be all darkness. And the light of the moon is ultimately the light of the sun. That would be a good plot. So maybe in the story some Yoda guy could point that to her which would make her question her beliefs, leaving it open for more later.

Without sun life would die, and vice-versa (some lifeform might survive in extreme enviroments but you get my point, the balance is good).

But yes, a clash between the clans would be cool. Getting the point of view of both and then a bigger picture, like once Solari and Lunatics (c::) were actually allies, until the first destroyed the latter etc etc that kinda thing.

I'd also be down for some important Targon characters who aren't among its champion roster, which brings me to my next point!

Just like Illaoi :D I'd like for a new champion to sneak in too. But I'd prefer more than one to make an appearance, leaving the community guessing who'd be coming out. All of them being possible future releases.

Chespin201311/19/2015, 5:05:16 AM1 votes

I really hope they explain the whole Solari vs Lunari thing that happened in Diana's lore because it really peaked my interest. What did the Lunari do that made the Solari want to kill them? Sure they both worship two opposing celestial bodies ( the Moon and the Sun ) but seems like their is more too it.

Zyorhist11/18/2015, 10:46:29 PM1 votes

how do you know we're going to mount targon

Heretic Lunari11/19/2015, 5:08:47 AM1 votes

We all know that Pantheon was a baker before becoming the artisan of war.

Randomonium11/18/2015, 10:45:43 PM1 votes

I would bet that we're going to see a massive battle in the next story. I'm hoping against hope that void monsters will be involved, possibly by a portal opened by some terrible misuse of magic. Possibly Diana tries to cast a spell to plunge the world into darkness and the spell gets interrupted by Pantheon and Leona, opening a rift. All three feel guilty and band together to close it.

This rift will draw the magical creatures of runeterra to mount taragon. Malphite, skarner, maokai and others will join the fight opposing Cho gath, vel koz, Kogan maw, etc.

This will lead to a huge battle to close the rift where a new champion will call on his powers to close the rift.

That's my hope at least.

I've got quite a bit of headcanon all about Targon. I've generally been posting about it in bits and pieces in the boards where appropriate. But basically I see it as a brewing chaos that has potential to explode into all out war between 2 celestial avatars. Shen has foreseen the potential ruin and the Order of Twilight, a forgotten branch of the Kinkou Order, will reawaken to cull the madness. Pantheon must decide whether to get involved either as a an agent of the twilight or as his heart guides.

Meanwhile at the base of Targon, Taric has stood vigil to a hidden entrance of the forgotten labyrinthine pathways, a network of underground tunnels and caves that seemingly spreads to nearly all over the globe. The chaos above has awoken something, a powerful being deep within. Taric is duty bound to confront the potential threat to his post and descends into the tunnels. Skarner a gem golem awakes to find that a nexus crystal filled with the magic that breathes life into his people has been corrupted and/or sapped away. Seemingly something or someone has committed a genocide of all he loved and was to protect. Malphite can be the monstrous threat beneath and/or the natural response of the Mountain itself trying to stabilize the chaotic magic that's become dangerously unbalanced. The Solari and Lunari were suppose to be wardens, duty bound to maintain control of that balance. But their complete abandonment of that responsibility places everything at risk of total destruction.

I mean...the link doesn't really say there is going to be a story or event for Mt. Targon...so I am not going to hold my breath. As for a new champion, Illaoi was most likely the last one or this year (as stated by several Rioters) so a new champ is low on my list of things I believe is going to happen.

I'm guessing it'll be a Bilge style event, because that worked out really well (except for the whole "Killing GP" thing, which, even as a huge GP fan, I liked, but you saw articles springing up all over gaming websites like "OMG LEAGUE REMOVED A CHARACTER NO REFUNDS WOW STEALING PEOPLE'S MONEY!!?!!??!!")

Personal guesses?

  • Alistar retconned to be from Targon. Dude is a minotaur, they want the Greek theme, and his old story's conclusion doesn't really fit with the theme of the new lore. (A giant cow becoming a public speaker against a tyrannical empire is total Season One League, and I love it.) If so, extended bio, hopefully he doesn't go the way of Skarner and just become "rawr i am monster now".

  • Pantheon getting an extended biography, and probably some new voice work/perhaps a model update. Maybe give him some sort of leadership position among the Rakkor? Now that he's not a "Champion of the League", he's just sorta "some rakkor guy".

  • Leona, an extended bio, at least. Depending on what direction they want to take her character, I could see her becoming more of a zealot.

  • Extended bio for Diana, but I hope they don't change much, I like her story the way it is.

  • Diana and Leona are going to come into conflict, somehow. Something a lot of people forget/don't realize is that, before the League, Diana and Leona had zero contact. There is no mention of Diana in Leona's lore, and Leona was gone from the mountain long before Diana went on her self-defense/vengeance rampage. They will probably actually meet up now.

  • If there's a new map, I would guess either another reskin of HA, if they want to make that a theme, or, maybe, a reskin of Crystal Scar, like in Ascension? Hell, maybe Treeline. What I'm getting at is that I doubt we'll see another whole reskin of Summoner's Rift.

*Probably a story. With the great reception Burning Tides and Shadow and Fortune got from the readers, I'd guess a story will likely happen.

*Skins. Definitely skins. "Solari X/Lunari Y" or something like that.

*Perhaps a new champ. I dunno. Depends on the timing. Tahm never showed up in Burning Tides, after all.

Rozzeta11/18/2015, 11:43:20 PM1 votes

Likely Leona will no longer be part of Pantheon's tribe, and will be the chosen Solari from the start (let's be frank, having her all adoctrinated when she comes from another culture seems off, or a very good brainwash process).
