At the beginning of LoL, Amumu was a human child that got cursed and can't have friends. Then Riot said "Now he is a Yordle that lives in Bandle". And now the new Nasus story says he is a cursed old shurima child emperor. So is he a cursed human? Or a cursed yordle? Or a human that got cursed while ascending and became a yordle? Which means that all the yordles are ascended and can all be considered as semi-gods? EXPLAIN ME RITO*[zombie-brand-mindblown]*

He used to be a Yordle child, but there was never really much lore around him anyway so when they made the whole Shurima lore they found a place for him there and changed his species so he fit better in that environment.

Here its something interesting that you mentioned: He is a Skeleton.
Skeletons do not have ears, so, thinking that he isnt a Yordle because of his lack of ears its not a valid reason.
Yordles in the new lore seem to be a race of rare "mitological" creatures, considering this, its possible that the most of the people do not know how does a yordle look like (Ekko has never seem a yordle in his live, and he lives in Zaun and has Visitied Piltover, where there are yordles, at least in the "old canon") or not even know that yordles exist.
So, if someone sees an small mummy walking arround, the first thing that they will think is that the mummy is from a human child (considering that the most of the people have never seen a yordle in their life, and some dont know what a yordle is).
However, Poppy, Greyor and Illaoi know that Ammumu is a yordle. I dont think that Poppy would be wrong about it because she is a yordle herself.
And if you say that yordles only live in Bandle, remember that before that they were a nomadic race, travelling from one part of Valoran to the other. And 
, who is a yorlde, lived in the Freljord / Kumungu.
Lets remember that "boy" and "child" are words that can be used for yordles as well.

But... You can't change your species simply like that, either he is a human or he is a yordle. I'm talking about Ascension because if he was a human and really turned into a yordle with it, that would kinda explain.

GreenLore1 votesWe don't really know if he is a yordle or not. Even his own lore doesn't deliver a clear answer as Amumu himself doesn't know if he is a yordle or not.
There are cerrtain champs and the blue shop keeper who do refer to him as yordle,but then again,they might mistake amumu for a yordle.
Hige1 votesI think it's clear the he is definitely not human, as for him being a yordle, maybe? he does have 3 fingers instead of 4, but a lot of champions share this trait like blitz and alistar, they aren't yordles but they aren't human either
