Something's off with the new Zyra bio

Zyra - Champions - Universe of League of Legends

First of all, I want to say I'm thankful that Zyra is getting some love in this end of year. The girl hasn't got any piece of Lore since her release, 6 years ago, and we had only her outdated bio to chew off.

Now that I read her entire biography, I can't help but notice how there are quite strange things about it :

  • Zyra is now Shuriman.

Well first, I'm still disappointed Kumungu hasn't become an actual faction, and now Zyra is listed as a Shuriman, which upsets me quite a lot ! Kumungu is located in the Shuriman continent, but it is not part of the Empire, just look at the map you can see a clear delimitation of the territory. Time will only tell us if RIOT decides to make it a fully-fleshed faction, as I waited for so long to have something about the jungles.

People might say Kumugu hasn't become a faction due to it's lack of governements/landowners & being anarchical, as it's still a harsh & hostile land yet, but we have the Shadow Isles as a faction... So I'm questioning this decision.

  • The mention of "Noxious fumes & spores" and her "Poisonous Barbs".

As far as I'm aware, toxins/spores/poison, aren't part of Zyra's gameplay, nothing in her character reflects that, her title is known as "Rise of the Thorns", and only this piece of lore mentions she has ability to control that, which is quite odd. So either the lore writer was wrong or this is a teaser for a GU for her.

  • What is she ?

Now we know Zyra was born the same way as Evelynn, the ancient sorcerous catastrophe was in fact the Rune Wars.

" A seedpod bulged, pulsing with unnatural life, until a creature clawed its way free, gasping and confused."

When the creature became the Zyra we know (She still called herself like that without knowing why..), she reminded the agony of hundred of mortal deaths, as if all the memories of the tragedy were flooding into her. This reminds me quite a lot of demons, and the way they like to torment in their own ways, humans.

It is stated she knew she was different from other life forms. Mortals; like humans, yordles & vastaya were unpleasant to her, same for the ethereal entities like the ascendeds. They were too arrogant, & none of them seemed to respect nature. So she began to conquer her own lands & make herself a territory & destroying all who dares standing before her.

Like it is stated in Evelynn's quotes towards Tahm Kench, demons have their own territories, could Zyra be possibly a demon also ?

That was my 2-cent about Zyra's new bio, that's maybe quite a lot to read and still want to know who wrote her new bio tho

If someone has some infos, that would be nice [sg-ahri-2]

Zyra is now Shuriman.

Azir "All reworks lead to Shurima!"

* cough * * wheeze * Sorry, don't know what came over me there! * cough *

It looks like they're having a hard time deciding what to do with the Kumungu Jungle. If you mouse over Shurima, you'll see they don't actually highlight the Kumungu. This makes me think that the situation maybe similar to very rural areas, where they get assigned a town as part of their address even if they're nowhere near city limits.

I agree that it does seem odd to specify the region only to clump it with Shurima.

No, Zyra is a creature born of a spell that went horribly wrong, cast by the sorceress who was trying to save the army escorting her. The sorceress' spell obliterated the Gardens of Zyr and her army escort, but as the area settled after the Rune Wars, life began to return, like it always does to places that are devastated. However, the plant life that first sprung up was from seeds that had been dormant underground, corrupted by the sorceress' magic. The creature that came forth was Zyra, a conglomeration of the sorceress' essence and the carnivorous plants that once ruled the garden. The reason she recalls fractured memories of the deaths of mortals is probably because she's remembering the devastation the sorceress caused with her spell.

Zyra wasn't born of the Rune Wars in general, in the way that Evelynn came into being by being a nascent wisp that fed on the feelings of tragedy and despair - Zyra was born of one spell that went horribly wrong. She is not a demon, because she is still primarily a plant being, a new kind of life. Demons also feed on feelings and emotions, which Zyra does not feed on.

I think Zyra is a product of nature and magic not a demon being.

Just gotta maintain that separation between Shurima the Continent and the Shuriman Empire which was named AFTER the continent it was on. Zyra is Shuriman in the same way that Mexicans and Canadians are "Americans"

the only problem about zyra for me is her in-game/short bio from the client

Born in an ancient, sorcerous catastrophe, Zyra is the wrath of nature given form—an alluring hybrid of plant and human, kindling new life with every step. She views the many mortals of Valoran as little more than prey for her seeded progeny, and thinks nothing of slaying them with flurries of deadly spines. Though her true purpose has not been revealed, Zyra wanders the world, indulging her most primal urges to colonize, and strangle all other life from it.

it should be shurima/kumungu jungles/jungles
