Ability descriptions in champion select?

A friend of mine has recently started playing, and we've been playing arams, obviously he has no idea what any of the champions do and you have to wait until you're in game to read a description of the abilities.

I think it would be good if you could see a description of your champion's abilities in champion select, so you have half an idea of what the champion does before you go into game.

Any thoughts?

ehh its not bad but people already forget their sums and runes and dont pay attention to the timer that it may make the client too cluttered. Its only gonna be used by new players so after they get some experience they'll never touch the feature again so idk. I can see what you mean but i also feel like the feature will become pointless in time.

I mean it depends what you consider to be new right? I don't think I've played every champion, and I've got a reasonable number of hours in the game (800~), so it would be useful to me too.

Additionally, it would only become pointless for that player, which is fine, it's fine to have an unused feature in the game for a certain set of players. It's less fine to lack a feature that would be used by a certain set of players, especially if they are new players. Games need new players to live, and should help those players find their feet in the game, especially one as complex as League. I don't think this is a massive improvement or anything, but it seems relatively low cost (in terms of effort) and a reasonable reward.

well its not like there arent 10+ websites , the client (before in champ select ) to see what a champion does, how to build them and what runes to take

Yeah true, but as a new player my friend doesn't know about these websites. Sure I could tell him, but who's gonna tell the other new player that doesn't have someone who knows these things.

4 little icons. Well 5.

Just 5 icons at the bottom of the screen to mouse over.

Id rather have them update Sandbox mode to be more, well, sandbox-y though. Guess we just have to wait for Blizzard to release a new MMO or Arena fighter for Riot to copy before they do anything

I reckon put them at the top, the bottom already has summoners etc.

I also think that brings up the main issue, in that you don't have much time in some champ select modes to read the abilities.
