Can we see our progress on our honor level?
It would just be nice to see if I am actually moving up and getting close to leveling up.
It would just be nice to see if I am actually moving up and getting close to leveling up.
Riot will never add this and they've already responded why. They don't want people to game the system by faking being nice when they're near a level up or knowing they can be assholes for a certain amount of games because it's gonna take a while before they drop down a level. The actual quote is:
"Hey, this is a good question, but we actually very intentionally did not include any sort of progress indicator for Honor levels. Here are a few reasons why:
It would just be nice to see if I am actually moving up and getting close to leveling up.
Just like with everything Riot does there's always a secret, behind the scenes batch of metric that go along with it---nothing is ever just a straight forward, clear, simplistic system.
Playerbase: "Why Can't we see our actualy Elo in ranked like we used to in Season 1?"
Riot: "Blah blah unrelated analogies, blah blah doublespeak, blah blah top secret calculations, does that answer your question?"
Playerbase: "Why doesn't the rotating game mode actually rotate? Where's One-for-All and URF?"
Riot: "This new client is so new and clienty that we have only figured out how to incorporate the two worst most awesomest game modes into it, Legend of the Poro King and Ascension. Besides, that IS technically a rotation. When we said we were introducting a Rotating Game Mode we never said we were actually going to rotate ALL the game modes? muwhuhuhahahahaha... Now, let us ignore the rest of your question particularly about that one really obscure game mode that only gets dozens of threads per weak with hundreds or thousands of upvotes about it. Moving on..."
Playerbase: "Are we going to have voice chat?"
Riot: "Well, when considering whether or not to add voicechat one has to consider the ramifications, a few months ago we were pretty certain that we were going to eventually intigrate the feature into the new client... you know our VAUNTED NEW CLIENT that is totally BUG FREE and AWESOME! ehem...
Anyway... If we had to ballpark it, it's a doubtful but definite maybe!"
Playerbase: "Are you going to rework the honor system?"
Riot: "Yes! it will be a significant improvement, we're looking to add more interaction, meaning and clarity to the system"
Playerbase: "Awesome! A clear and precise answer"
Meanwhile after the honor system
Playerbase: "Hey! We love that you redid the honor system guys, this is a good start!"
Riot: "Thanks... uh, wait... good start, it's finished!"
Playerbase: "What do you mean it's finished? Isn't there something you forgot?"
Riot: "...No, we don't think so... blah blah blah honor level 2, everyone gets it, blah blah you might go up after awhile but it takes a long time but we don't tell you how long but it's great isn't it?"
Playerbase: "Yeah, about that. Would it be possible to see our progress so that we can actually feel like our good behavior is being rewarded and continue the positive reinforcement?"
Riot: "What?!?! Do you think this is a game or something? Blah blah blah don't want it to feel like a grind even though it is, blah blah blah don't want you to behave simply to get the reward even though that's one of the reasons and benefits to redesigning the system in the first place."
Playerbase: "Alright, so we don't get to see our progress at all, sigh Fine. Hey, can we honor players on the enemy team? You know the people that were actually really nice to play against and maybe encourage them to be sportsmanlike in the future?"
Riot: "Look, we'll level with you, we clearly didn't even consider that people on the enemy team are ever decent human beings, we know our playerbase is generally scum, so we just decided to not include that feature. We felt that you would only honor people that performed poorly and abuse the system, because that's how little we think of you guys...
On a completely unrelated note, we have some new stuff to buy in the store with RP... $pend money! We love you guys!"
I'd be down.
I kind of missed the old honor counters. There isn't even a progress bar and it's just sad. The new system is kind of lackluster and I haven't heard about anyone passing level 2 yet :/
It's way easier to handle threads like "can we see our honor progress" than a lot of threads like "bug, can't go up honor" "honor doesn't go up" "wtf i went down honor" "i don't deserve to lose honor" "rito pls fix honor" "rito can't handle honor" "just lost honor cause i was an asshole and i think it's unfair", or even funnier "I know I deserved to lose honor, but please don't do it"
They may still add a progress bar at some point, but it's better if they don't
If I were to guess why people are pushing for this, I would feel some of the supports are just backing it because they want to grind it out, and/or have the knowledge on how toxic they can be from time to time and remains clear from punishment.
I do not think adding a meter will do any good at all. In fact, it will destroy the point of the system if you add a meter.
This system really is just a carrot on a stick, let us be real. The point of having carrots on a stick is that the horse is chasing after the carrot, not knowing when it will fall into its mouth, so it will try its hardest to obtain it, no matter how many steps it will take. This is what Riot is aiming for, if you do not know how much you have to behave, it will encourage players to behave at their best all the time.
If you give it a meter, it will form a routine. Now the horse will demand carrots based on how many steps they've taken on a fixed rate. This totally destroys the point of the system, because people are no longer forced to behave at their best, but how much they have to behave, and how much they can misbehave before facing consequences.
Do you seriously think that is going to be a good idea, Riot? I do not think so.
In fact, this system is just there to reward those who can at least behave like a decent human being, there is literally 0 drawback and only climbs if you don't troll every game. Do you believe those who ask for tangible and fast rewards, and planning grinding to get rewarded for something as simple as being decent, as well as using the meter to keep an eye on just how "good" they have to be, are deserving of those honour rewards in the first place? This new system really doesn't change anything from the past, mind you, as long as you don't get punished for being a prick anyway, so why are some of us so desperate to level and plan the grind for it?
Some people will always use the reasoning that people are more likely to output if they know how much they need to, arguing for the existence of the honour meter. But here's the kicker, that only applies if the whatever system in question is a grind. Honour system is never meant to be a grind like IP to buy champs or something. That's why that reasoning is false. The premise of the system is that "you might get rewarded if you never get banned", it really is never meant to be a grind. And I also do think some of that percentage-ish algorithm from the previous Honour system is also used in the current one because I'm sure I heard or read that somewhere it was said that beyond raw numbers, rate is also used as part of the calculation or something, in order to prevent people just grind it out with the number of games played or that people can't get it because they don't play as much or something (which I hope is true).
Do not just listen to the whim of some of us on the community, go through it and have a think about it yourself.
................
TL;DR Adding a meter destroys the point and the design of the system on various levels. So no.
I'm assuming that the system is bullshit, so they don't want us to see how it works. You don't want to see how hot dogs are made or watch a day in the life of a KFC chicken.
It's just my own speculation, but I'm guessing that there are limiters set in place, so that you can't just 24/7 it for a month to level. There are most likely built in cooldowns like chests and keys, where it just straight up doesn't give you shit after playing x games a day/getting x honors a day.
The "don't want a grind" thing is what made it clear to me. Games are built on grinding, and gaming companies embrace the idea of grinding to keep you playing. If there is something to grind for, but you actually get penalized for grinding the grind too quickly, then shit gets sideways with the player base. Legitimate grinds are always out there in the open for you to chase, like grinding ip, grind XP, grinding Mastery levels, etc. We know what they are, how they work, and that there is actually a carrot on the stick. Honor is the opposite, and for all we know, it's just a stick.
Anytime you offer a player base rewards for doing this much of 'x', it's a grind any way you look at it. If the grind is being artificially stagnated with limiters and bullshit behind the scenes emergency brakes, you have to drop the "yeah we just want people to behave and stuff, and like, it's not a grind guys, but yeah".
Instead of starting on level 2 with a cap of 5, and not moving after hundreds of games, they should have done levels 1-30, with a steadier progress. Each level increases key drops by 2%, and every 5 levels you have milestones that give potential access to new shit. level 5 - loading screen flair level 10 - gain access to Honor Capsules, which can potentially contain 1-2 key fragments, champion shards, Hextech chests, skin shards level 15 - loading screen flair. Honor Capsules contain 2-3 key fragments. Can contain one or more of the following: champion shards, skin shards, Hextech chest, (small) chance for exclusive skins level 20 - Honor Capsules contain 3-5 key fragments. Can contain one or more of the following: 1 time use any champion unlock token to use or be gifted to a friend, exclusive summoner icons, skin shards, Hextech chest, (medium) chance for exclusive skins level 25 - Honor Capsules contain 5-7 key fragments. Can contain one or more of the following: 1 time use any champion unlock token to use or be gifted to a friend, exclusive summoner icons, skin shards, Hextech chest, (high) chance for exclusive skins level 30 - loading screen flair. Honor Capsules contain 7-9 key fragments. Can contain one or more of the following: 1000 RP, 1 time use any champion unlock token to use or be gifted to a friend, exclusive summoner icons, skin shards, Hextech chest, (very high) chance for exclusive skins
If it's not broken, don't fix it.
I mean I like rewards and all, but keys? I must now have at least 30+ keys just chillin and 7 more key shards. Do we get ward skins or just champ images/avatars the higher we go up? would be nice to know how things are going though.
Funny thing is, if they were to revert this change to to the outcry of the majority. How would you imagine getting back those stats would be? All I can see if, we're very sorry, but there is no way to revert these changes, as condolence, we will give you a certain amount of rp or a few days of boosted xp. lol Riot what are you doing with this client? It's like EV*'s citadel's. Just sitting there to look pretty. ;)
