Do you own a skin? Have you EVER spent a few bucks on this game? You'll want to read this! U 2 Riot

Dear Riot & Community,

As a happy spender towards this game, I'm quite satisfied with the new skins, the amazing URF event (please please please consider making that a once a week thing [Ultra Rapid Friday, taken from the top post on the URF Recap thread] while we're here please...pretty please?), and just how the game has been overall lately. Great job & thank you!

Not to mention, of course, your recent move to lift some of the gifting restrictions/policies...

But why stop there? This thread will give an idea to further incentivize (kinda tag-team with the gifting rules being eased and all) purchasing RP... which means:

  • An exclusively unique skin that will give some of us bragging rights.
  • AND encourages people to buy more RP, which means more money in your pocket!

We both win!

What is this idea you say? Well...

This idea was inspired by my old addiction, World Of Warcraft (owned by Activision-Blizzard). which has an "Achievement" for unlocking 50 in-game mounts. The reward following this achievement is a unique, exclusive "Albino Drake" mount that is unobtainable until a player gets the achievement.

See where this is going?

This doesn't have to be legendary or anything, but something special would be nice. Particles, maaaybe a voiceover, definitely something to make it stand out and worth the money that will have to be spent in the long run (we'll get to that shortly). Yaknow. I understand the dispute may be whether the rewardee has the champion for the skin... I thought it over and figured,

"Well, no one seemed to complain about the Victorious skins that much..."

Now, now, I know what you're thinking. 50 SKINS?! That could cost several hundreds! Maybe THOUSANDS!

Wellllllll not quite. I did the calculations:

I put a slightly higher average of 1000RP per skin, which would mean a total of 50,000 RP (keep in mind that each skin is usually lower than that margin).

If you divide this number by, let's say the** $50 RP purchase, 7200 RP, it would mean about $349 in total**. This is a little high, considering most people don't purchase RP in this kind of caliber... so,

let's see what happens if you divide that same number,** 50,000 RP**, by the $10 purchase, which is 1380 RP = $390 in total, a mere $41 difference.

But around the mid-high $300, in my opinion, is an appropriate amount for a seasoned player to accumulate skins over the months & years, OR make a very special gift for a lucky somebody, etc., etc. Not to mention, there are seasonal/event rewards, sales, and bundles too! Too low and the skin will lose it's value. Too high and it's a bit unrealistic. I think it's juuuust out of reach to make it difficult enough to obtain, but definitely doable if one was to think about all the people that have played for a year or more.

And let's be realistic; most of us won't be starting at 0 skins!

Agree? Disagree? Comments, suggestions, criticisms? Let your voice be heard below!

If you're someone who likes to spend any expendable leftover money on this game every once in a while like me, help me support this thread and let's make this suggestion a reality!

Let's wrap this up.

Here are the pros:

  1. Reasonably affordable if you enjoy collecting skins.
  2. PERFECT opportunity for everyone to take advantage of the new gifting system (which can't be abused this way, considering the only reward doesn't affect gameplay at all, and the money has to come from someone's wallet, right?)
  3. INCENTIVIZES AND ENCOURAGES people to start getting more RP and gifting each other (mystery skins, anyone?) to make the slow but sure climb to 50!
  4. Both Riot and the players win!
  5. *More money for Riot means more stable servers (hopefully), more game features, making URF a regular thing (cough cough, who said that?), maybe finally making a non-beta version of the Mac client (seriously, are you writing these down?).

Cons: Hm... I'll update it if I see any. None for now. Idk. Maybe encourage some conniving identity thieves? Yeah that's a stretch. I really don't know.

Ah, got one. I'll start this list then:

  1. There is currently no way to look and keep track of owned skins. Perhaps a "skin closet" (sounds like something out of The Silence Of The Lambs) with a number count at the bottom somewhere? Or add a "already owned," filter to the Skins section of the Store.

  2. Does not cater as effectively to the free2play population

  • which I think Riot can make some sales events like: A. Hold a sale periodically through out every season, like a buy one, gjft one for free deal. Like once or twice a season maybe? B. Incentivize Riot's end to provide more skin reward opportunities, like Season 4's "good behavior" gift to everyone who earned it. . i. If this system of once a season to once every month... everyone (active members) who doesn't spend a penny will get it 12 skins everywhere. . iI. so people who play reasonably actively with good behavior can get up to 12 free skins every year, which is a good way to encourage good behavior in a simple way.

by the end of this, I predict a time where most people will have this skin. Is that a good or bad thing? I wouldn't mind seeing a game with everyone that has an awesome skin, where everyone can get to enjoy them, regardless of whether they decide to buy a skin themselves and/or received one from a friend along the way,

Your move.

This will not happen!

The reason given is taken from http://www.surrenderat20.net/2014/09/red-post-collection-texture-rebalancing.html :

Hippalus popped onto reddit earlier today to comment on the status of and give some background information on the Lifetime RP rewards, a program mentioned yesterday ago that aimed to reward summoners who had purchased RP.

"This has not been forgotten and is still discussed internally. Here's the tl;dr of the history.

The original plan, back when high quality summoner icons were rare, was to give out Riot Supporter icons that evolved in coolness based on how much lifetime RP was spend on an account. It was intended as a simple thank you to players who could then choose whether or not they wanted to display it to show they had supported the game and made it possible for so many to play for free.

We ran some surveys to make sure it would be well received, and the feedback from RP spenders was that it wasn't enough of a reward and didn't feel good. So we went back to the drawing board and came up with plans for scaling rewards that we also tested by survey. While those scored better with RP spenders, they were negatively received by the majority of the player base that hadn't spent money. They also felt bad to some Rioters who take pride in treating all of our players the same whether they have bought zero skins or 100.

The only reason to launch this kind of program is to show appreciation to players and create good feelings all around, and so the interest in moving forward dies quickly when we realize that just as many bad feelings will be created. So more recently our discussions have focused on what we can do to benefit all players and not just spenders. This has resulted in the return of double IP weekends and an increase in summoner icons that can be earned without spending. We continue to evaluate other ideas (like cars and wives/husbands for all!), but if they happen, they likely will not distinguish between RP buyers and non-buyers."

So there you have it. September 2014 confirmation.

I also think having a new type of sale, like a Buy 1 Get 1 Free sale, one for each account per sale event... let's say once a month or a couple of times throughout the season?

Maybe even a Buy 1 & Give a Friend 1 for free sale, the same rule about one per customer would be a great catalyst to get this started off the ground. You know. Obligate the crap out of your friends to get you one too eventually. Or... as a gift for your friend on a lucky birthday?

You have all of our birthdays, don't you Riot? Maybe giving everyone a skin on their birthday could encourage this too. I dunno. Give and take, am I right?

Treat it as a "grand opening" sale, if you will.

The floor is yours, friends.

Overall I like the idea myself.

Riot made a few jabs at a 'total RP' milestone award but apparently they were usually shut down after survey/interest probing. Their ideas changed from a skin to an icon and then into w/e it is they're doing now.

However, I don't think they thought of doing said reward off of skin count instead of total money. It's an interesting take especially if gifted skins and the free social media skins count towards it.

maybe finally making a non-beta version of the Mac client (seriously, are you writing these down?).

I dunno man, I feel like people who buy apple products deserve forever beta.

I like the idea that Elophant has about "skin collection score", and I would love to have Riot use the same idea and give you rewards depending on how high your score reaches.

Also, I got 150 skins.

50 ain't nothing.

PandahHeart4/15/2015, 7:07:49 PM2 votes

I really like this idea. I think it would be a great reward for players who support the game by buying RP. Currently I have invested around $350-$400 by buying RP for myself and gifting my real life friends. There is Elophant which shows you how many skins you have, your score and all of the skins in alphabetical order.

http://www.elophant.com/league-of-legends/summoner/na/37509211/skins - I only have 95 though. :3

Another thing, you could always mystery gift yourself (either by adding money to your trusted friends account, or by making an account yourself - especially since they're lowering the gifting rules) which you will spend less money on skins. But I don't see a problem with this idea. Riot still earns money from people buying RP and the ability to gain an exclusive skin would increase their income (most likely).

peer pressure forces me to downvote and tell you your idea is bad...thats just what we do here. When we see a really good idea we troll the crap out of it and spit on it. If your idea had been truly selfish and bad, then i could upvote spam the snot out of your post, but sadly...your idea has merit thus i can not Amumu

I think if you spend a certain amount of money on skins for one champions there should be a point when all other skins for that champ unlocks (special event and holiday skins excluded). This would encourage people to buy more skins for the "bargain" factor. I don't know what the magical number would be, maybe 2000 or 2500 RP per champion?

Krigjer4/15/2015, 8:06:50 PM1 votes

I really hate the concept of 'I spent more money than you so I get this special reward and you don't!'

For the same reason I'm against veteran bonuses in WoW and other subscription MMOs.

What would also be nice is you get a little something for let's say buying all the battlecast skins? Maybe an unobtainable battlecast skin, ward, or anything. I think RIOT should do a collection thing, where all the skins that have the same theme are collected, you get something from it.

custom skins are best skins

EvilRabbitt4/16/2015, 6:45:07 PM1 votes

My reward would be that we get to choose ANY 1 skin to get for free. You want that PAX Sivir but weren't there? Step on up its yours! That PAX Fate? Go right in, take it. That'd be so good. Every 25 skins you buy, you get 1 free skin. I believe this to be an awesome idea.
