Turning Tanks into [Squishier] CC Casters

So from what I've noticed, a lot of people have issues with CC and the champions that put it out. For example, a lot of people hate Nautilus , and even more people (from my knowledge) don't really like playing against champions that just disrupt play, such as Alistar and Morgana . And Maokai . And Rammus . RekSai TahmKench Taric RekSai ... There are a lot. What makes these champions even more irritating a lot of the time is the fact that they are EXTREMELY tanky, and make getting on them punishable by cc and more importantly, absorbing that damage for their adc, who then proceeds to lay down inhuman amounts of damage on your entire team. In my experiences, tanks are usually the people on the front lines soaking damage and providing helpful defensive buffs to the team. In league, I find that a lot of the time tanks are the ones with the percentage damage and stupid amounts of cc, which seem far from the defensive theme that tanks used to fall into for me. This makes them fairly frustrating to play against, especially when they stomp lane and then can deal massive damage while still taking none. Looking at you Sion DrMundo .

The above isn't ACTUALLY that important though, since I'm here to offer a possible solution to this problem. I do not guarantee it is the best, and I do not guarantee it is original, but it came to me today in a game and here it is.

What if we took a moment and made (at least as a trial) every cc in the game scalable with some stat? Hear me out. Tanks have been in meta for quite some time, and I think the reason for that is that they have high utility and little penalty for building no offensive stats. What if we made every cc in the game (duration wise) scalable with ap/ad? Which is to say, what if we turned Nautilus into a squishy CC Caster? For example, made the knockup on the ult scale with ap, starting from very short duration off of some base (.5 seconds - 1 second? Idk about balancing) and then scale with ap after that. Late game, a pure AP Nautilus could have a knockup on ult of 2 seconds or more. Of course, balancing for these abilities is currently not taken into account, as this is just an idea and I don't really know what impact this would have on the professional level, but it's an idea.

In theory, this divides current tanks into two categories: damage soak tanks, who provide defensive buffs and soak damage such as braum, and CC Casters, which are no longer tanks, who sit in the middle/backlines providing incredible amounts of crowd control. Considering their positioning, CC Casters could be a whole new category of champion. Considering scalings, what if Magic Resist and Armor provided the buyer with reduced length of these CC's? The possibilities are endless, and I personally think that CC Casters would make playing champions that don't necessarily do all the teams damage far more fun than they currently are. Not only would this make it more entertaining to play (at least in my opinion) but it would also raise the skillcap of these champions far higher than they currently are, since positioning is now a big thing. As such, a good counter strategy in a teamfight where their cc is just destroying your team might be to focus the CC Casters and then the others. It introduces other priorities into the fight than just ADC and Mid.

I'm not saying this idea is perfect. I'm not saying the balancing would be anywhere NEAR easy, but I am saying this is worth a shot, and I'm also saying that if depth of play is an objective, this could be a step in the right direction. I'm also not saying that these champions can't build any tank, just that their tankiness shouldn't be a consequence of a kit that is already packed with utility.

At the bottom of this page is a poll. Whatever your thoughts are, be it good, bad, or rage-filled protest, let them be known :D. Thank you for taking the time to listen to my idea.

EDIT

A lot of people seem... annoyed by this idea, and that's understandable since it would change a lot of game mechanics around. Champions that have been the same for a VERY long time would suddenly be flipped on their heads, not to mention the players who play these champions would be basically alienated from their mains. I GET THAT. Something that I want to make clear before this post gets -50 is that this is an IDEA which I never suggested SHOULD replace current champions, just that it would be a cool mechanic to try out on them, perhaps in a game mode. This would give people time to see if they like it, and most importantly it would give them a chance to not be estranged from their champions.

Again, this is just a sort of trial and error idea for a change. Looking at some of the comments below, I too agree that this would perhaps be a fantastic choice for champions in the future. To clarify however, I'm not suggesting we make Nautilus a squishy melee cc character, I was actually thinking that all CC Casters would be ranged, to compensate for their valuable utility and squishiness. But that doesn't matter. Current champions don't have to change at all, except for maybe CC scaling which would be a numbers thing alone. I do however think that new champions would benefit from this as a concept, where they are neither designed nor able to do huge amounts of damage, but provide valuable cc and utility for their team at a relatively DPS-style pace. Kind of like Ahri I suppose, but if every non-ult skill was some sort of CC and couldn't one shot someone in a combo.

Just to clarify further, when talking about percent damage, I'm mainly talking about champions like Volibear and DrMundo who get large chunks of damage despite not building any offensive items when ahead. I'm not saying their broken, only that the mechanic behind this is annoying.

Constructive feedback is appreciated, so is criticism.

Nope. You wanna take identities away from too many champs with this. Champs like leona would require entire reworks to be playable with what you suggest.

Also can't tell if you mean %hp moves ( which is the only way they could win a fight if they are last man standing like a lot of tanks are) or if you mean end game graph wise. Which if you mean end gake graph you gotta remember people like their sunfire capes which is just constant aoe dmg. That adds up fast over the coarse of 30 minutes give or take.

CC casters like utility mages like lux and morgana? Also tanks are usually melee with some engage, but a squishy melee with cc wont do you any good. I agree that it would be nice to have cc scale with a stat, but with one that fits the champ. Also about % damage. Top this is most useful as you usually have the tankiest champs there, but its pretty bad against an adc or midlaner since 5% of 2000 health is just 100 damage which is a basic attack lategame. And tanks are supposed to tank damage and the adc should wreck havoc. Its a fault on your team if you get decimated by the enemy adc while your team focuses on the enemy tank.

I don't think that these champs are unbalanced, so I don't think the idea is necessary, but I don't think it's bad either. It's simply strange and unnecessary. I'd actually thought of the idea as well, but I hadn't thought of changing the current CCers, I'd just thought it would be a cool mechanic on a new champion.

However, I'd be down for seeing this in a gamemode at least, just to see what it's like. I don't think I'd want this to change any of the aforementioned champs. (Especially considering I'm pushed into playing them a lot by teammates who only understand raw damage.)

How about you just learn to position and stop being bad? Disrupting is their job as a tank. If you removed that aspect from LoL, it would become even less strategic and more braindead than it already is. There are already a plethora of assassins that can do anything and everything and now you want to dumb down tanks (even more than they have been over the years)?

The worst part is that Riot will actually listen to complaints like this and ruin the game even more.
