Zhonya's Demons

How long was it since they first walked the earth? Too long. Spawned from a dimension shattered by Zhonya's Ring. Yet it is that same ring that shattered the world. Our world. This tower in which the bell does not toll, nor the sands drop from the eternal hourglass. Demons loom right outside our door. They cannot enter. We cannot leave. How long has it been since we fell into eternal stasis? Not long enough.

We may have been overrun. Whether from the Void or Shurima itself, it does not matter. To escape would mean discarding this time we have left. The moment the sand begins to fall is the moment time stands against us. We need not several decades to prepare an escape. If that was all, the span of months would have been necessary at most. Only if that was all, but it isn't all. You all know what happens, but do we all know what we must do? Unlike what we have now, once the sands and hands of time flows, we will only have one shot.

Even so, I have faith. We prepared for eons past, in time nonexistent. Tuning fate to overcome cruel destiny. We will wait not for a hundred years, thousand years, million years, not even a Zilean years. The time is now. Time to stand against annihilation. To end the eradication of Runeterra.

Thanks for reading The Bell Tolls. Time Immemorial is a Zilean story to give context to Zilean's bio. I am making this to tie in similarities I find interesting. For one, I wanted to tie in the Egyptian theme of Shurima and contrast it with Abrahamic themes in Icathia. One thing that isn't made clear is the reason for Shurima's distaste in Icathia. I am making this connection to create a fundamental religious conflict of monotheism vs. polytheism as the root of the conflict. I will not openly state this in the storytelling, but I will be making implications that Icathia is monotheistic.

I'll be honest, this part is an idea I got from Fate/Grand Order. I am going to use the 72 demons of King Solomon's grimoire, Ars Goetia, as a basis for why the Void was spawned in Icathia. Officially, Icathia is known for using Mage Kings, and King Solomon in Fate/Grand Order is sure enough the Mage King.

This chapter is technically an epilogue since it tells of Zilean's resolve after much time has passed.
